4 out of 5 eggsAWFUL Manual

Pros: It works once you find the right software. Ignore the manual and install the CMS software. Once you figure it out, you'll be happy.

Motion sensing switches the monitor to the active camera, VERY useful.

Cons: WOW! the manual is AWFUL. The suggested software does NOT work. The IE plugin won't install unless you adjust your security down.

The documented Android connection will not work, use TapCMS.

All software connections lose connection with the DVR at random times. This is especially true of the Android app, even when connected to the same network.

Other Thoughts: The Newegg description says to use TapCMS for android access, the included manual doesn't.

The included CMS software isn't that intuitive but once figured out it works, mostly.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Worked out of the box as expected. Easy to set up including the network/remote viewing.

Cons: None yet.

Other Thoughts: I set up the remote viewing but ran into a problem with user privileges. I could not figure out how to prevent guests from seeing my cameras. One phone call to the company on hold less than 2 minutes and a very nice man solved my problem. It was operator error on my part. Very pleased with their support. I also tried remote viewing with Chrome and Firefox both work with the IE Tab plugin/add-on.

3 out of 5 eggsGood starter unit

Pros: The price of this unit is great. As is the size. Easy to set up. Add any size drive up to 2 Tb. Can alway use the drive elsewhere after you get another unit.

Cons: The iPhone app is just ok (no zoom, limited fast forward control). The DVR keeps resetting at random times (14 times in the last hour).

Other Thoughts: I will look for a better DVR. At least I'm only out $100. This unit does not control PTZ.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Box On a Budget

Pros: Easy to install and get up & running out of the box. Hardest part was running video/power cable through the attic. Not a big deal just a little sweat.

Cons: Not the easiest instructions to hookup to my network for off site monitoring, but I was able to find plenty of info online to help me out.

Other Thoughts: I bought this box on a low budget with 2 cameras and a 500 GB Hard Drive so I would be able to check in on my house while I'm at work. Works perfect for my situation. I am able to monitor both cameras and see what is going on while I'm away.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Out Of The Box

Pros: Easy to install HDD (up to 2TB). Connect cameras, turn it on, step through easy menus to setup and your off and running. Maybe 30 min. total time from box to recording.

Cons: None that I have found so far.

Other Thoughts: Works great and does more than I could ask for at the price point. Upgraded from an internal PCI DVR card to this stand alone unit.

5 out of 5 eggsAposonic A-S0401R21

Pros: Really nice little unit. Small enough to hide almost anywhere. Only noise is from hard drive spinning.
Remote software lets you do almost everything except define the motion trigger areas of a particular camera.
You can define multiple user accounts with whatever permissions you wish.
Remote admin and monitoring is done from Internet Explorer with a plugin from the DVR.

Cons: Only thing lacking is the remote software would not allow me to define the motion trigger areas. That has to be done from the main monitor using the mouse.

Other Thoughts: I used Vonnic C503W 480 TV Lines white dome cameras, Cat-5 wiring and Aposonic Video Balun RJ-45 to BNC Converter with Power Input for each camera.
No problem running two cameras on one Cat-5 using two pairs for each camera, one for video and one for power.
