The DVR is an advanced 4 channel H.264 smart DVR with pre-installed 500GB hard drive that allows you to access it remotely from both the internet via Mac computers running Safari 5.0 and/or Windows based computers running Internet Explorer and/or select 3G/4G smart phones including iPhone, Android and select Blackberry models. The system is packed with features like motion activated recording with real time email alerts, digital watermarking of recorded files, USB backup, D1 recording and a simple point and click interface.

The 4 cameras utilize a color CMOS sensor to produce 400+ TV lines of resolution that they can be used indoors and/or outdoors. The camera’s 11 LEDs produce an image up to 30 feet away in complete darkness and clear crisp images throughout the day. It doesn’t end there, this special edition bundle also comes with an 8” color LCD security monitor that can be mounted to a wall or stand freely. This security monitor easily connects to the included DVR and has the option to have a second DVR connected at the same time.

H.264 Compression Technology H.264 technology delivers stunning video quality at remarkably low data rates. An upgrade to the MPEG4 standard, this ultra-efficient technology gives you excellent results across a broad range of bandwidths, from remote access via internet explorer to remote viewing on your 3G smart phone. H.264 compression also allows you to save more video footage than traditional compression methods thus giving you up to 2x more storage.
Viewable over 3G/4G Smart Phone and Internet This system is viewable anywhere in the world via Safari 5.0 & Internet Explorer, or on your 3G/4G smart phone or Tablet PCs.
Motion Activated Recording Motion activation allows you to record only when necessary, and makes it easy to find important footage during video playback. This will save you time and conserve hard drive space.
Point & Click Interface The system comes equipped with a state of the art, easy to use icon based interface. All you need to do is point and click to access any of the features of the DVR. It also comes equipped with a USB mouse and USB backup function.

Had it up and running in 15 minutes from my Windows PC (but if you're based off MacOS - read below). Decent image quality from cameras. Cons: Web interface is outdated and only works with Internet Explorer due to ActiveX control (who still uses that??). Newegg's description says it supports Safari 5.0 ,but I have Safari 5.1.2 and the included Safari plugin does not work. Tech support's workaround is to use "kmeye" from the iTunes app store but that doesn't give all the same functionality. Product is rather gimmicky, it comes with a USB optical scroll mouse which actually makes the setup process harder to do. The remote control provided is also pretty gimmicky. Setup interfaces are not centralized, there is one in the browser ActiveX control and a different local GUI based setup on the DVR itself. Other Thoughts: Mac users BEWARE - This DVR kit is good for home users but if you are MacOS-based , it will sadly not work for you. Still not a problem, but I needed the device working. I stuck a new drive in I had in stock, in a matter of minutes I was up and running. Happy until I called support, which told me since I opened the unit (which has advertised user replacable drives) WARRANTY IS VOID! Happy NO, will buy anything else Night Owl, NO! Hopefully you won't either. Other Thoughts: I wouldn't have rated high based on experience but really didn't want to even give 1 egg based on my feelings for new egg. 1 out of 1 people found this review helpful. Did you? Cons: I now have interference that keeps my remote on my garage door opener from working unless extremely close to the opener. Power off system, it raises and lowers via remote, power system on, it don't. Go figure but something is using same frequency or else generating interference. Would have rated at 4 star if not for this issue. Other Thoughts: Found discounted and on sale. Price directed me to this unit. Not as clear as "high" dollar units at work but not a high dollar unit. I did purchase an additional camera of another brand to get wider view of one area.
