The KGuard CA108-C03-500G is a high performance surveillance kit designed for your home or small business application. This kit includes 8-ch H.264 standalone DVR, 8x weather-proof CMOS cameras and free bundle surveillance software that supports live view with IE & smartphone, motion detection and more. The quick do-it-yourself installation, multiple viewing capabilities and pre-installed 500GB HDD make it an out-of-the-box solution for your surveillance need.
Good System. Still some minor problems.
This review is from: KGuard CA108-C03-500G 8 Ch DVR + 8 CMOS, 420 TVL, Bullet Cameras + 500GB HDD, Surveillance Kit Solution
Pros: This is a good system for the price. The Cameras are higher quality than the Night Owl ones I installed on other jobs. The DVR actually works with IE9 which most do not, and it is faster on the cell phone than others. It takes a standard SATA drive so you can upgrade anytime you want to a larger one, up to 2TB. It looks really cool.
Cons: The menus are not really user friendly. You can not only record when it detects motion, it ALWAYS records and just flags the recording when there is motion. It is hard to play back videos. You have to search then it lists them by time stamp and then you can play them...play back is slow when doing it remotely. The worst thing is that when you download a video to save it, it will only download into some very odd .h264 file type that NOTHING will play other than their software that came with it, and in that software you can't even fast forward or anything. It does not understand what a wide screen monitor is so if you use it with one, or use a widescreen monitor on the computer you watch it on in full screen mode, it will stretch it a lot and make things look bad. The power cables that came with the cameras were really bad, I bought a power control box somewhere else to make it much better.
Other Thoughts: After installing this one, and two night owl systems in the last few months I think that this one is slightly better. I may try the newer night owl system in hopes that they worked out some of the major bugs.
