5 out of 5 eggsMy Bad - Correction to my 1 egg review

Pros: Everything you need except for the Hard Drive. Improved GUI Menu system. You can actually control the color of the cameras if they are not rendering properly. Works great for viewing on an iPad, or iPhone, or remote PC running IE. Also can view on a PC through the KView Center App (which I think would eliminate the need for IE)

Cons: Setup is not intuitive. For the motion detection masking, it is exactly opposite of what I would have thought. You actually mask the areas where you want motion to be detected and recorded. Networking it is not as hard as some people complain, unless you are unfamiliar with your router. I set this up at my inlaws house and had to phone ATT Uverse tech support which was worthless. Once I was able to get into the router and pass through the appropriate ports, it runs rock steady. Unfortunately the instructions will not lead you step by step. This will not work with most Green drives. I would save myself the headache and use a WD Blue or Black (I am having success with both).

Other Thoughts: The color problem was apparently an issue with my TV. I hooked it to my Samsung 56" though a VGA cable and the color rendition was horrible. I switched to a PC monitor and that solved my problem. Subsequently I connected it to my other Samsung TV (both 42") and it looks fine. IDK what the deal is with the 56" I feel bad for writing the negative review, but I was not happy at the time, and had read similar reviews that lead me to believe I had gotten a lemon. I was just testing the new system after installing a hard drive before I ran all the cabling at my in laws. This security thing is addictive. I bought this for my in laws, and already I am thinking of upgrading them to an 8 channel. I will probably stick with KGuard since I am now becoming an expert at networking them.

1 out of 5 eggsColor Problems

Pros: Comes with four cameras, and a DVR with a relatively easy to use interface.

Cons: Camera color rendition is way off. Everyone looks like Paul Giamatti in Big Fat Liar. (BLUE)

Other Thoughts: I bought this KGuard system for my Inlaws. I own an 8 Channel KGuard model, that works great. This one at first glance is just like mine except 4 channels. Both have CCD cameras vs CMOS. When I connected the cameras, all the blues look turqiose, and the reds look blue. My brown couch looks green. Out of curiousity I hooked the cameras to my DVR and they look fine. I have swapped cables, run it through the BNC to RCA connector, taken a new camera from another manufacturer, and nothing works.

I will contact KGuard support, and see if they can help me, but the reviewers for their other products are not very encouraging. Fortunately I tested it before I installed it. That would be my advice to you too. Also, on my DVR, I modded the case to add a HD cooling fan. Fortunately I did not mod this case before testing.
