3 out of 5 eggsTerrible Customer Support

Pros: Seems to work fairly well if you monitor it directly as a live stream

Cons: Motion sensor is terrible, triggers at nothing and then doesn't when someone is walking around in front of it so it's basically random. Tried to use KVC program recommended with it but unable to replay through wireless which it should do, customer support doesn't answer emails or phone calls to fix it.

3 out of 5 eggsThere are issues

Pros: Easy set up, Cameras have better night vision than i expected, The camera record settings are extensive and should fit every need

Cons: The Alarm mode is total junk. The lowest Alarm setting Is ten seconds. It may seem like a silly complaint but it is such a long alarm at even that i must leave it off. I set this up for my parents so that they could passively monitor the property. I have it connected to a tv they watch a lot. In an ideal world the alarm would alert them so that they could switch inputs and check the cameras. After testing they found this to be so annoying and interrupting to whatever else they were doing that they requested it be turned off. They did want they alarm but asked if it could be set to a single or double beep. Unfortunately it can not, I contacted KGuard support about the issue and they were less than helpful just referring me to the manual that was not included in the system. Also another issue is that when all four cameras are triggered by motion detection this alarm becomes a continuous beep (not intermittent) and will not stop until the DVR is shut off. I tried to alert KGuard support about this issue as well. They again referred me to the manual even after I let them know that I had consulted the manual first and it was not acting according to the manual. Also the motion detection is incredibly sensitive even on the lowest setting picking up things such as birds and even the trees swaying.

Other Thoughts: Overall for the price this system is good . If you plan to use the alarm mode or motion detection then i would suggest choosing another company. Their support is absolutely terrible and i question whether they have a full understanding of the English language. I will most likely be returning this system as it cannot perform the two of the most basic tasks a home security should be able to perform.

3 out of 5 eggsCould be better

Pros: 8 channel
D1 resolution on every channel
weatherproof
600TVL
Kview and KviewHD smartphone apps (better than other brands)
WAN internet viewing using portfowarding and DDNS
Audio recording inputs for every channel.

Cons: At D1 resolution, DVR only supports 60fps total/7.5fps per camera. You can allocate 15fps to only the 4 cameras that come with the kit.
Does not support the new 960H resolution standard.
The computer software is junk. The webinterface only works on Internet Explorer.
Remote playback of previously recorded footage doesn't work on mobile and very difficult on computer software
One camera's IR LED failed in a month.

Other Thoughts: The cameras uses 6mm lenses. This means that the viewing angle is tighter than the typical 3.6mm camera lenses. This is good for long distance, but bad for large areas or close up. I would probably not buy this kit again just for this reason. You can purchase other brands security cameras to work with this kit however.

2 out of 5 eggsFirmware bug?

Pros: Low cost, camera quality is acceptable at this price point, switches nicely between colour and infrared b&w mode at night. Software is adequate and provides basic functionality. Includes a free DDNS service from KGuard, which worked successfully for remote access.

Cons: Weak documentation and customer support.

Biggest problem for me was a probable bug in the firmware - whenever I rebooted the DVR, the last three pairs of the MAC address would change! This kept me from reserving an IP address for it in my router.

I did succeed in accessing it remotely, by setting a static IP address in the DVR configuration, and then forwarding the two necessary ports to this local (192.168.0.x) IP address on my home network.

Other Thoughts: While I did succeed in getting the device to work on my network, I wasn't confident that I wouldn't encounter network issues with its MAC address changing all the time (an automatic reboot of the device on a daily basis is recommended in the settings for maximum stability.)

When I opened a support ticket with KGuard, suggesting the changing MAC address on reboots was likely a firmware bug, and asking what they might suggest, so that I didn't need to return the unit, this was their reply:

Thank you for contacting KGuard Technical Support.
Regarding to the question you have, here is our solution:
If you still have this issue we suggest you can return the DVR to newegg.ca
We hope this helps and please do not hesitate to contact us with any additional queries you may have.
Best Regards,
KGuard Technical Support

3 out of 5 eggsGreat Surveillance System, Marginal Remote Software

Pros: Great as a surveillance system, GREAT cameras, great price

Cons: Lots of software issues, requires specific configuration options to succeed at network setup and remote access.

Other Thoughts: If you just want a surveillance system this is a great choice. But if you want to access it remotely, be prepared for a time-consuming and frustrating process. It can be done (I eventually succeeded), but it won't be obvious or easy, and it requires VERY specific configuration settings all along the line (in the camera DVR, your home router, the browser you use to access it, ...). Remote access only works with IE, and even then you must perform some magic in IE to get it to work. It has some weird behaviors, like the MAC address it uses CHANGES EVERY TIME THE UNIT IS REBOOTED! How _inconvenient_ is that?? There's more, but you probably get the idea.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Security System

Pros: This thing is great. EASY to install, make sure you have a 5/8" drill bit and it goes real smooth. Reasonably priced and has worked great since hooking it up. You can record in many different ways and resolutions. Quality is good and the night vision works exactly as mentioned on the box, even the distance it works at.
Cords are small after the camera and are easy to hide under trim and such. If you put the cameras at your 4 corners of the house you may need 1 or 2 extensions but I put my box near the center of the house. Also make sure to use the right power supply for the cameras or you will get lines as the power supply is not marked for which one to use with cameras.

Cons: I will cut and paste the con from the last review. "I'm not taking any eggs off for this because of everything working so good but the remote is a little touchy , you have to make sure that you are pointing it right at the front & push kind of hard on the buttons". This is exactly true but not worth knocking an egg off.
Menu also mispelled "search" and is "serach" but these are minor.

Other Thoughts: If you have troublesome teenagers in your neighborhood, this will be the one for you.

5 out of 5 eggsWORTH THE MONEY !!

Pros: This system is the best , I would recommend this to anyone looking for a very good quality security system , I just got this today 6/5/13 & checked it all out , the day vision is perfect & the night is pretty good too , I let it record for awhile to see what the quality was & it looks perfect , I was even surprised that it comes with a 500gb hard drive , I had ordered a hard drive to put in & when I took the top off of it , it already had one in it ,, by the way , the mouse works great too

Cons: I'm not taking any eggs off for this because of everything working so good but the remote is a little touchy , you have to make sure that you are pointing it right at the front & push kind of hard on the buttons

Other Thoughts: I will be buying another one of these units as soon as I get more money ,, you can't go wrong with the security system , I promise

5 out of 5 eggsJust awesome!

Pros: Wow, I just have to say that this upgrade is definitely what I needed. I just replaced my security system with this one and it is clear and the colors are just excellent. For this price, I will get another one to upgrade my parents system as well.

Cons: None so far
