Hawking HNC290G Camera
- Pros: This is a continuation of my previous review of this camera. Newegg's shipping was unbelieveably fast. This camera has good video when it's not locked up.
- Cons: Bright light seems to lock up the camera. Motion detection doesn't work at all. The picture sent is nothing but trash and is totally distorted. Hawking tech support will not answer their 24 hour support line and if they do they will hang up on you. They normally have a modem on the line so you can't talk to them. I'm sending this back for a refund.
- Other Thoughts: I wish I could subtract an egg from my previous review. Buy any other internet camera. It will be better than this one. I hope Newegg can get a refund from Hawking. This is not the fault of Newegg - they are a great company.
Hawking HNC290G Camera
- Pros: I currently own 5 TrendNet internet cameras and 4 Encore internet cameras. This camera, the Hawking HNC290G, has great video. It is superior to the other cameras, especially at low light levels. The picture is clearer, seems to have higher resolution, and is not as grainy at low light levels.
- Cons: The admin username cannot be changed and the password is only 4 characters long. The camera is a stand alone camera and does not require a computer to operate, but it cannot upload pictures to my website without additional software running on a connected computer. The trendNet and Encore computers can email or ftp photos on a schedule set by the user. This HNC290G camera has motion detection built in, and that is why I bought it. However the motion detected photo is chopped up when it arrives by email and the object that was detected in motion is not visible in the photos. I contacted Hawking tech support and they hung up on me. I sent them an email so I hope I get an answer.
- Other Thoughts: The onscreen date & time is nice. The camera logs onto an NTP server to update its time and it seems to have more accurate time than the other cameras. I will keep this camera since it has good video, but it does not meet my requirements and it is nowhere as flexible for my purposes as the other internet cameras. I hope I can get the motion detection working properly because the camera can then serve a more useful function.
