5 out of 5 eggsHIKVISION DS-2CD2032-I, 3 MP IR Mini Bullet Camera

Pros: I bought these cameras for home security system. These are a nice small compact size with very good construction and have an 3MP camera at a low price. When I received two of theses cameras I tried them right out of the box. This is a very good 3MP camera with excellent picture quality for this price.

Cons: When looking how to mount cameras to the house, these are ceiling mounted cameras or under eaves of a house. As my house has no eave, I will be looking for a different cameras to mount.

Other Thoughts: They need to tell the DIY person who is buying the camera about the mounting profile. Most just show a camera. What about camera mounts for dome cameras.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat value for the price but....

Pros: Camera has great image quality for day/night. IR range is pretty good but I even noticed at night a straight light was enough to not even have to have it switch to night mode. Web interface is nicely laid out for you to configure in a basic mode or advanced type of setting.

The built in motion detection isn't bad for frame(pixel) movement but if it is being mounted outside wind moving things, lightening changes (car headlights, etc..) or small critters will trigger it to record very easily no matter the sensitivity setting. Having a recording software application doing the motion detection based of an external PIR would be better way to do motion recording.

Cons: I would only purchase this from NewEgg if you are extremely tech savvy, as NewEgg is not an authorized seller of HikVision. So basically you will not be able to get support from the manufacture should you have any problems and that also means the factory warranty is not valid. Test camera within your NewEgg return policy period to ensure it works.

The firmware from HikVision is a bit flaky at times. It is very picky about NAS solutions to record too and my require editing files manually to get it to work correctly.

4 out of 5 eggsNice Camera; maddening installation

Pros: Excellent image quality, good low-light/night sensitivity, a fairly solid web interface for viewing live video and changing settings (such as selecting particular parts of the field of view to trigger recording when movement happens.) A solidly built chassis/mount, with a weatherproof ethernet connector. Since the camera has fairly low power draws, powering it with a PoE switch is quite practical.

Cons: Trying to get the camera recognized turned into a long, strange adventure; perhaps it was peculiar to my setup, but it took numerous attempts (using the manufacturer's software) to simply make initial contact with the camera. Most IP cams will docilely accept whatever IP address your home router feels like throwing their way, but for some bafflingly ill-advised reason these cameras come pre-programmed to a specific IP address ( So, you need to use their special software to hunt down the darn thing on your local net for the SOLE PURPOSE of setting it's IP address to something that falls into a readily useable range (such as ONCE you get that done you can simply contact the camera directly (via its built-in web interface) or access it through other security camera programs (such as the Surveillance Station software that comes on a Synology NAS.)

Other Thoughts: No local storage; records to a NAS or other server. No audio; it's strictly video. Overall, I'm perfectly happy with the camera; it's a great value for the money, and a big performance step up from the cheap little VGA cameras you see everywhere.

5 out of 5 eggsEggcellent Value !!!

Pros: VERY NICE picture @ 3mp!
Lots of features and setup options. POE makes install easy. These cameras cost over $1k just 2 years ago. A very nice camera in a really small size. I am using Blue Iris and it works great, have 4 cams now and want more. Use the SADP tool on the CD and change to your network and that's it. Set it up and go. HikVision has free android app too.

Cons: none so far...

Other Thoughts: For the money this is a very good camera. HikVision is an established company too- unlike so many new IP cam brands. Do the research, check around and you will see these cameras are highly rated.
As usual ---> NEWEGG ROCKS!
Beware of vendors selling this camera cheaper, with little or NO warranty!
