1 out of 5 eggsZmodo No Go

Pros: Well packaged and received quickly.

Cons: Terrible image quality at night. Fun to look at during the day because it looks like I am in Alice & Wonderland.. Colors are off no matter how I adjust them.
The only thing worse than the image quality is the customer service. There is none. Automated recording that starts out as caller 4 or 5 with 4 minutes wait time. Then as the caller number goes down the time goes up.
Called them on both their toll free line and regular line, waited on hold for 30 minutes both times before hanging up.
Save your money and purchase from a more customer friendly company.

1 out of 5 eggsgarbage

Pros: the only good thing about this is 16ch

Cons: everything is bad, during playback the camera channels blankout.on playback fast foward and rewind to. i had it for 29 days called newegg for a exchange and they granted me 1. so when i got the exchange in 2 weeks i hooked it all up and tested it. and whats really funny is it had the same problem as the first 1 i got. so i called for a refund and got my money back. so from what ive experience is that z modo is garbage and defective. they must have been in a rush to put them out in the public for sale without testing them. or they knew and didnt think people would recognize it. another thing that is funny they dont even put a serial number on there products so it could have been newegg sending the same 1 back to me.oh yea both times they sent it to me they gave me 4 wires to the camera that was used. not to mention zmodo's manual to the dvr was printed out cheaply and was hard to read.

Other Thoughts: i think if they didnt have a problem with the camera channels blanking out during playback and playck fast foward and rewind, and if the manual was real not printed cheap it would be a good dvr system

2 out of 5 eggsRoll the dice.

Pros: The unit is very reasonably price($377)for the specs. Live view is available straight out of box with camera connection. Remote viewing is pretty intuitive with Internet Explorer and Vista if you've worked with a router(port forwarding)before. I tested the cameras with and without lighting. I thought the video quality was pretty good for price range. Discoloration as other reviewers have mentioned is to be expected with these type(CMOS)of cameras. Newegg delivered next business day as usual. And they have a liberal return policy.

Cons: The hard drive failed after about 16 hours. Instruction booklet leaves a lot to be desired. There's actually a section on remote viewing with 3G phones where the print is so small, it cannot be read with the naked eye. It is also a generic booklet and not model specific. I could never get the remote viewing function to work my iPhone or Ipad using ASee or Aplayer apps. Firefox is not supported. Safari returned a missing plug-in error. The equipment failed before I had the chance to contact customer support.

Other Thoughts: This system was 200 dollars less than the next lowest priced system with comparable specs. At this price point, you should expect a roll of the die. If you're lucky enough to receive one without defects I think you'll be very happy with the system. Unfortunately it was snake eyes for me. I'll return to Newegg and try the Night Owl.

4 out of 5 eggsUpdate to my last Review

Pros: I incorrectly stated that the motion alarm did not trigger an email response. In fact, although the motion alarm still only shows up in the log file it DOES in fact trigger an e-mail to be sent. I must say that I really like this feature. The moment that motion is detected it takes a snap shot of that camera's view and e-mails you the pic within seconds. You can then log into the mobile app and see what's going on. In addition, you can set a schedule as to when it e-mails so say that your home working outside from 6:00pm till 11:00 you can set the schedule so that it does NOT e-mail during those hours to avoid overloading your mailbox of pics of yourself. However the video is still recorded. Also, with the log file, it takes you right to the point that motion was detected so you don't have to watch hours of video just to find it. Really a great system! The only reason for 4 stars is the color reproduction of the cameras

Cons: Only real con at this time is the poor color reproduction but all CMOS cameras suffer from that problem. But then again I don't spend my Friday evenings watching my property thru my surveillance system.

4 out of 5 eggsA Good System

Pros: First off, This isn't a high end system so don't expect that. But for the money it is a very good system. Initial setup is easy, basically plug and play. Setting up all the details can take some time but isn't that hard. Focus is pretty good for what the cameras are. Distance range is very nice along with angle of coverage. I can see the whole back yard. The IR is good to about 30ft although like most cameras detail is lost. I have mine mounted high on the house but I have motion sensor floodlights which take care of the lighting for the cameras. with 16 channels there's plenty of room to cover everything. I have 8 outdoors and 8 indoors. I did have to use a high end camera for the front door to see clearly who is there. Overall, if your idea of a Fri. night is watching your backyard thru your surveillance system then you will be disappointed. If you want to see and catch who's messing around your place when your gone then you will love this system. Again especially for the price

Cons: Yes they are color cameras just don't expect the right colors. Purple trees are nice, kinda Dr. Suess-ish. You may have some of the worst dressed burglars in terms of color coordination. The manual could be written better but as a guy "who reads the instructions". The motion alarm does not log into the events folder only the log folder therefore does not send e-mail alerts.

Other Thoughts: for mobile viewing on I-phone use only the a-player app ( NOT THE A_PLAYER PLUS, WHICH IS A SCAM APP) or for quad viewing use the ASee+ app both work great are free and easy to set up

5 out of 5 eggsGreat dvr

Pros: This DVR is great, has all the bells and whistles mentioned in the 4/1 review. You can setup motion detection and have it email you, etc. You can select which fields on a certain screen to monitor for detection, or not monitor. 1 TB is plenty. I have a 50 ft HDMI cable and this dvr powers it with no problem. All the menus are very intuitive. Forwarding a port on your router is very simple and is not really a function of this router. I believe the router also has upnp for those technically challenged to open the port on the router. You can also change the ports from default 80 for www to something else for obscurity.

Cons: The cameras that come with this kit are cheap (what you pay is what you get, except the DVR is great). I bought this kit doing little research, and after seeing the cameras I was disappointed. However, it comes with 8, not 16, so there is room for expansion and replacement. THe cameras are no good due to the very narrow viewing angle, very limited night vision, and poor quality.

Other Thoughts: Buy the DVR by itself, and mix and match cameras one at a time until you find the perfect one you like, or have different ones for different locations.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome system!

Pros: DVR is easy to set up and the video out options are excellent. I have a Flat Panel Tv hooked up in one rook via a standard RCA video cable, a flat panel LCD monitor on the VGA and a regular old tube TV hooked up via a 2nd RCA video cable. All show the same screen simulatenously. Android and iPhone apps work perfect and very cool! The PC-based control application works great both on the intranet and via remote internet access. We can watch the cameras real time from the golf course! zmodo website is very helpful with detailed documentation and installation videos.

Cons: Punching a hole through the router and configuring all the ports is pretty complex. Most of my issues with setup were caused by the DSL provider, not by the equipment. Cameras are pretty narrow range of field but we can always add better cameras with wide-angle lenses.

1 out of 5 eggsJUNK!! JUNK!! JUNK!!

Pros: Bought from Newegg received in two days. Had them send me a pre-paid shipping label immediately for return. No questions asked. Thats about it.

Cons: Everything from quality to Customer Service is a joke.

Other Thoughts: Comes in a box with no lables which should be a sign. Plugged in receiver started up a loud beep and that was it. Called Zmodo Customer Service after waiting on hold for 23 min someone answered. This guy did not know anything about this system. After a Umm, I don't know, and more Umm am not sure, he had me open the case remove HDD and try to boot it (Lucky I know my way around a computer and hardware or else it would have been a ridiculous request) He said yeah its broken send for repair. No thanks will return for my $ back.
