1 out of 5 eggsnight vision cameras??? NO GOOD!

Pros: The DVR program is very user friendly....

Cons: The advertised "night vision" cameras are useless after dark...You cannot see a person 10 feet from the camera at night...Cannot see well enough to identify someone at 6 feet...Called Zmodo's so called "customer service" a waste of my time...They would SELL me better night vision camers, but would not exchange the cameras even with me paying the cost difference...The lady I talked with even checked with her supervisor (supposedly) and said I just ordered the basic cameras...I pointed out that it was a DVR KIT and these were the cameras that were included and nowhere is there an option to upgrade cameras....
I also read off the ad that these were night vision outdoor cameras......

1 out of 5 eggsRIDICULOUS

Pros: it records?

Cons: - records continuously as soon as I plug in the pwr supply and you can't turn it off either on the unit or the remote - supposed to operate in timer mode but it doesn't work. What good is a dvr you can't turn on and off?
- can't power it off except by unplugging pwr spply
- supposed to create recording files which you can back up. Can't find these sometimes and other times it finds one long continous stream. What good is it if you can't keep track of your files.
- cam pic is okay but colors are awful. ir seems to be motion activated but it only stays on for a short time. What's the use of that?
- each cam has a 60 ft cable. I didn't really expect anything different but if you don't have an attic or wall to run thru, someone can easily trace the cam back to the source and steal the dvr. Would be more useful with a video transmitter but note all 4 cams are powered from one power supply. Really? Plus the base of each cam is too small making it mandatory that you screw in the base. c'mon it would cost only a few cents more to make the base larger so the camera doesn't keep falling over!!

Other Thoughts: Promises a lot of features but doesn't deliver. Overall just junk and pretty useless.

Still trying to contact support to get my questions answered but this is going back if they don't respond.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for the issues with your surveillance system and your overall negative experience with Zmodo products and service.

-The DVR is designed to stay powered on as a security measure to prevent tampering or accidental shut off.

-The motion detection is programmed to begin recording when motion is detected and stops recording after 2 minutes of stillness, this is to make optimal use of the recording space on the hard drive.

-The base of the cameras is designed to be mounted to provide optimal viewing.

-60 foot cables and having multiple cameras powered by one power supply are an industry standard. We do offer however, longer video/power cables and individual power supplies for cameras when needed.

I hope we have effectively answered most of your questions in our response. If you have any additional question we would appreciate the chance to work with you directly to help resolve these issues. We have a few different options to contact our support. You can call us at 866-551-6881, email us at, or leave your number with us at, and our support team can call you back.

Best Regards,
Zmodo Sales and Support
