4 out of 5 eggsNice System but not without problems

Pros: This was easy to install, just run the wires, plug in the cameras, and setup with mouse and menu. Some reviews have said the video quality was no good. I found just the opposite, very clear video and can identify person from 60 feet away. Night vision is ok and you can always add additional infrared. Good night vision for only about 20 feet but if there is a streetlight, no problem seeing people 50 feet away. The price was unbeatable on sale and the client I installed it for was very happy to have home security system with installation for less than $250.

Cons: When unit is powered on, The default language was Chinese and video was PAL - not NTSC. Very limited instructions so you have to work yourself through the menus. If video is set to PAL, you end up with blinking black and white video. There are no instructions for what ports you need to open on your router. I have not been able to view video outside the network. System resets occasionally by itself and the client calls me back to set up video and get rid of the Chinese on his screen. This has happened 3 times where the unit goes back to factory settings.

Other Thoughts: For the price I could not get a better deal. The unit I installed had a clear picture. One problem I still have not resolved is how to record more than 2 cameras. In the menu for recording, I can only select 2 channels or cameras. I ended up just setting it up to record the camera on the front porch and side of house for client.

Ok, bottom line is for home security you don't really need a super expensive system. A business I do PC support for had a new 16 camera system put in that cost 10 times as much as this system. The video from the business system is horrible. We have all seen the video on news where a business recorded a crime in progress and most of it looks like they were too cheap to buy a good system. Well, I have seen $1200 systems that the video does not even come close to the video quality of this system.

Pros: Inexpensive

Cons: Cameras all give blurry image. At night you can barely make out a person. Only worth it if you plan on changing the cameras.

4 out of 5 eggsGood for the money

Pros: Price
Picture quality
# of channels

Cons: Directions to setup on phone were incomplete and confusing. Two of the four (outside) cameras died in the first three months.

Other Thoughts: All in all I'm happy with this. A couple things to help out others. If you want to monitor on your phone, open port 53499 on your home router (port forward it). On your phone, at least iPhone, download KMeye (free). Install duckdns on your home PC so you'll have a URL that always works. For example and use that as the server name along with port 53499 in kMeye. Once you get it setup right, it works awesome.

4 out of 5 eggsNice product for the price

Pros: Works as advertised. Good video from included cameras. Good interface from monitor connected to DVR. Hard drive install was a breeze. Happy with the pruchase.

Cons: The WEB interface is pretty limited, but does give you the basics.

Other Thoughts: Didn't try the phone app. Use baluns and twisted pair (cat5) for linger runs.
