1 out of 5 eggsGarbage

This review is from: Zmodo ZP-KE1H04-S-1TB 4CH NVR + 4 HD 720P Day/Night Outdoor sPoE IP Camera w/ 1TB HDD Smartphone Scan QR Code Quick Remote Access

Pros: Local view day light is good

Cons: After one month nothing show on the web management interface, android app works with specific phones only (not working with Xperia), no manual tuneups or service\deamon start - you get what you pay for.
Garbage.

Other Thoughts: Guess that to get a good system with decent software it's 1K and up.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Quality video at a great reduced price

This review is from: Zmodo ZP-KE1H04-S-1TB 4CH NVR + 4 HD 720P Day/Night Outdoor sPoE IP Camera w/ 1TB HDD Smartphone Scan QR Code Quick Remote Access

Pros: The great video quality especially at this newly reduced price (I paid $320 and am happy with that). Very easy to get the system working and remote viewing from my phone. The power being supplied through the network cable is a big plus. There is only one wire to feed to the camera.

You can even review archived video from your phone. I received an e-mail from UPS that indicated a package was delivered at 11:03 AM. I opened the ZMODO app and reviewed the archive around 11:00 am. And at exactly 11:03 am the driver came jogging up the walkway with the package.

I didn't anticipate how much pleasure I would get from watching my daughter wave to me live as she comes home from school while I check in from my phone at work.

Cons: I wish I could add cameras.

2 out of 5 eggsDo not use Outdoors

This review is from: Zmodo ZP-KE1H04-S-1TB 4CH NVR + 4 HD 720P Day/Night Outdoor sPoE IP Camera w/ 1TB HDD Smartphone Scan QR Code Quick Remote Access

Pros: Works great at first. The image quality is excellent.

Cons: After 5 months of use connection corroded on camera that was outside. After trying to clean up and then change the connector, I opened up the camera and it had burned up.

Other Thoughts: You cannot buy a replacement camera itself from Zmodo easily. I was quoted $105 for just a camera. Doesn't make sense when the whole kit is $300.

4 out of 5 eggsPrice and Quality for a 720p system

This review is from: Zmodo ZP-KE1H04-S-1TB 4CH NVR + 4 HD 720P Day/Night Outdoor sPoE IP Camera w/ 1TB HDD Smartphone Scan QR Code Quick Remote Access

Pros: 4 camera 720p complete system for a great price.
- Good picture quality
- pretty easy to setup

Cons: User interface is a bit lacking, would like the ability to add one or 2 more cameras over the network even if I was forced to buy zmodo. Like to be able to use cameras with other monitoring software.

Other Thoughts: Some helpful installation tips for future buyers.
- remote into each camera via IE and change password, assign a static IP address
- setup high quality resolution and make sure camera is set to auto sensing.
- update firmware via IE browser interface for all cameras and nvr system.
- I would recommend upgrading the packaged cat5 cables to a higher quality cat5e or cat 6.
- IR nightvision may appear little cloudy/chalky when you first set it up. Just shine a bright light at each camera to reset the IR LEDs and everything should work great after.

A lot of people will complain about viewing cameras remotely. The app works great while at home, however you have to use website service to view them remotely+app. The problem with this you need to open up ports on the router and upnp etc.. . I would highly recommend not doing this due to vulnerabilities to network intrusion. Better off buying a small hidden ip camera and set it up to alert you by email.

5 out of 5 eggsPricing and Quality

This review is from: Zmodo ZP-KE1H04-S-1TB 4CH NVR + 4 HD 720P Day/Night Outdoor sPoE IP Camera w/ 1TB HDD Smartphone Scan QR Code Quick Remote Access

Pros: System is inexpensive, effective and the quality is really VERY GOOD... I install Security Systems for a living and purchased this to test at my home.. It has not giving me any issue, except the hard drive is not being recgonized - I will call zmodo for advice.. But this is a really great system - POE, 720p, Simplicity in setup A+++++

Cons: I'd like to see the GUI (user interface with a few more bells and whistles) logging in the unit via IE only.. The permissions issues and adding the ip exception can be a pain, but it worked none the less.. I would like to see an 8 port and 16/32 port version of this...

Other Thoughts: I do this for a living, and I can honestly say tou get a lot for a little here.. Great entry level system, With a little more effort on Zmodo

5 out of 5 eggsPrice is very reasonable for a 720p Security system

This review is from: Zmodo ZP-KE1H04-S-1TB 4CH NVR + 4 HD 720P Day/Night Outdoor sPoE IP Camera w/ 1TB HDD Smartphone Scan QR Code Quick Remote Access

Pros: The set up was very easy, the image quality is fantastic, the smartphone scan QR code for IPhone works as advertise and the mobile view on the IPhone is good. No instruction manual, only a quick set up guide but so far was easy to install.

Cons: Would benefit from having an instruction manual.

4 out of 5 eggsNot bad for the price

This review is from: Zmodo ZP-KE1H04-S-1TB 4CH NVR + 4 HD 720P Day/Night Outdoor sPoE IP Camera w/ 1TB HDD Smartphone Scan QR Code Quick Remote Access

Pros: I run two different professional security camera systems as part of my IT job, so I am familiar with high-end cameras. I have to say that this system isn't bad for the price. I have to agree with most of the statements made by other reviewers on NewEgg. The camera mounts need improving. The IR beam is too focused, although you can control the intensity. The operating system is actually pretty good but it has some quirky features. For example, in playback mode, you can only view one camera. I would like to view all the camera, even if 1/4 screen, so I can see all the action at once.

Cons: The big disappointment is the alerting feature. It is really not controllable. The cameras seem alert on EVERYTHING, including foggy mist. We put these on the property to survey intruders. It would have been fun to get alerts on "animal intruders" during the night, but there are so many unnecessary alerts that you really just need to sit and scan in fast-forward mode through a whole evening to catch anything. And as mentioned above, you can only scan one screen at a time so finding interesting events is next to impossible. We are also not relying on this system to alert us of serious events like human intruders because it is too difficult to tune. There is a beep alert on the box, but it was going off constantly and my wife asked me to turn it off.

Other Thoughts: Despite all negatives, this system is pretty good for $350. We move the cameras to look at different locations. We found we have a serious rat problem at night in the grape vines and by watching their activity,we also discovered the best ways and places to trap them. Sorry rats. For us, getting rid of the vermin makes this camera system worth the price.

3 out of 5 eggsWorkable at best

This review is from: Zmodo ZP-KE1H04-S-1TB 4CH NVR + 4 HD 720P Day/Night Outdoor sPoE IP Camera w/ 1TB HDD Smartphone Scan QR Code Quick Remote Access

Pros: Low power consumption (less than 20 watts with 2 active cameras). Everything worked out of the box. Camera resolution is adequate to me. The video record files are pretty small in size (3-10MB dependin on the length).

Cons: The whole system is inconsistent. It almost feels like they mixed and matched different parts. To me, that is an alarming signal that it's not going to be very functional.

Kludgy and confusing interfaces all around. The zviewer PC program can connect remotely to the NVR controller for live video but cannot view video playback/pre-recorded stuff. The web interface for the NVR controller can play back videos. The tree for the devices -- when you're connected to the NVR and it shows each channel, clicking into each device doesn't actually present that device's settings. You need to add every camera in order to manage it's 'remote settings'. So, the NVR controller doesn't actually give you access to all the camera settings.

Tons of issues with the zsight and zviewer programs as far as the mobile phones are concerned. I have had no luck connecting either program to my NVR or cameras. I have my lan and camera system on different vlans but entering in static IPs do not work for as far as detecting/scanning/adding the cameras into the mobile applications go.

E-mail alerts do not work even though the TEST button from the controller works fine.

Authentication is all over the place. There's a 'local' login for the Zviewer installed onto your PC. Then, there's remote settings for the NVR/cameras you're connecting to.

You're probably better off using the NVR controller as nothing more than a POE switch for the cameras and setup a standalone PC with blueiris or the like to manage the cameras.

Their support website as far as the NVR series goes is non-existent. You can find the manuals and nothing else about a firmware update for the NVR system. Worse yet, all the help/faqs look to be community written -- which is shoddy at best.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I wanted to address some of your concerns about the software. The Zviewer PC software will playback video if you are on the same network as the NVR. For remote playback you can use the IE interface.

The system is not designed to operate over VLANs. If you have a secured VLAN then you will need to port forward to get the mobile application to work. If you do this, you will need to use the mobile application Zviewer.

Can you check that the email alerts are not going to your spam folder? Also, make sure the the motion detection setting is configured correctly.

We are continuing to improve our resources and documentation for our newer products. I recommend checking our knowledge base at kb.zmodo.com for new articles and informational videos.
