Vonnic DVR-C1108SE 8 Channel H.264 DVR, Real time Display/Record (2CH x Full D1 + CIF) , Web/3G/4G Mobile Access (HDD Sold Separately)

Pros: I like the price and the ability to view via my android phone.

Cons: The unit configuration is really odd, the hard drive should overwrite and keep recording but it stops. I have had to format the disk 1 time to continue the record process and I re-checked the settings and will continue to watch for problems. I have the unit set to overwrite older video after 30 days, I will keep watching this for problems.

Other Thoughts: For the price its alright for a small business or home.

I would like to thank you for your review and feedback. I would like to extend some assitance to you in regards to the Overwrite features you have mentioned in your review.

There are two options in the configuration of our DVR unit that may be able to help resolve the issue you may be facing.

1. Enabling the overwrite feature for when the hard drive has reached its capacity. This option may be found by entering into the Main Menu -> System -> General: HDD Full. You will want to set this option Overwrite to ensure that the files will overwrite when the HDD is full.

2. Ensuring that the Auto-Delete Old Files is set to a desired set amount of days. This configuration may be made in the Main Menu -> System -> Auto Maintain: Set the Auto-Delete Old Files to never if you wish for the HDD to follow the normal Overwrite feature of the DVR. Also, you may set a specified amount of Days for the DVR to begin deleting files in order to manually maintain the HDD capacity.

Pros: Low price with many many features comparable to more expensive units. Small size. Nice video.

Cons: Not a con but was aware of no hard drive with this unit and no exhaust fan......most of the heat is relative to the hard drive.

Other Thoughts: Did have doubts regarding quality in relation to purchase price but was rewarded, after HD install, with a unit that works as advertised with a decent warranty. This replaced a $500.00 4 channel DVR that quit after 2 1/2 years. Hooked up to my existing LTS and Aposonic cameras and this unit has more features and better video than the previous DVR. Very pleased.

Pros: Good DVR, using a Western Digital 500G SATA/WD5000AAKX, with Sony cams, I like the many features it has to offer.

Cons: No exhaust fan.

Pros: Crisp Video, Numerous configuration Options, Easy to setup. Can connect a VGA and Composite Monitors directly to it, and (The BIGGEST PRO) - It has an NTP Client! A real bargain for an 8-channel DVR with networking, especially given the price.

Cons: Only one - The internal clock won't stay set to DST. It keeps reverting to Standard time.

Other Thoughts: After owning a Nightowl DVR (also bought from Newegg for about the same money) which couldn't keep accurate time - EVER, I was excited to find a cheap 8 channel DVR that had an NTP client. It works well, and I have it set to retrieve the time from a time server on my network. (It can be set to use any NTP open NTP server.)

The only issue I have is after I programmed it to recognize Eastern Daylight Saving Time, and set the time, it reverts back to EST within a few minutes.

It has a nice provision for configuring the start and end of DST, so it should never be obsolesced by the whims of Congress, like so many other devices. However, it never apparently USES this configuration information, and jumps right back to EST after setup.

However, this is the ONLY negative I can find for the unit, and after my experience with the unit this replaces, I'm happy to give it 5 Stars.

Pros: cheap and arrived quickly with upgraded shipping

Cons: Item was defective out of the box. SATA port did not work. Confirmed with manufacturer who said the port "must be bad". Cost $14 to send the defective item back to Newegg for something that was junk and didn't work.

Other Thoughts: I will never buy another Vonnic item
