Requirenments:
SkyBell requires full-time power and is designed to be connected to a wired, mechanical doorbell chime.

SkyBell is only compatible with a low-voltage transformer with power from 8 to 36 VAC 10 VA or 12 VDC with an amp rate of 0.5 to 1.0.

If you do not use a mechanical doorbell chime, you MUST use a 10 ohm / 10 watt resistor for one connection between SkyBell and power source. Failing to do so will void the warranty.

Power Diagrams: Click link to see all power diagrams.

SkyBell works with the 2.4ghz band and connects to b/g networks. N-only routers should be set to also broadcast b/g. Dual-band routers should have a separate SSID for 2.4ghz band.

You MUST connect your smartphone to the 2.4ghz network BEFORE syncing to SkyBell.

SkyBell requires a full-time, fast-speed internet connection with 1.5mbps upload speeds.

2 out of 5 eggsI'm not loving it.

This review is from: SkyBell Wi-Fi Video Doorbell Version 2.0 (Bronze)

Pros: The antique bronze finish looks great next to the front gate latch hardware.
I had little trouble pairing the device to our (extended) network.
You can now silence the house bell at will using the mobile app.

Cons: It does take a fairly strong network signal to detect and pair successfully. I had to cascade our network using a second old router located closer to the front door before things would play nicely.

When I bought the product, the notes (and the iTunes store) said it was compatible with iOS 7. When I got the product it would only work on iOS 8. I was (spam)-out-of-luck trying to get that to work on the iPhone 4 that I prefer to carry in my pocket.

The doorbell alerts on the mobile device often don't arrive until many tens of seconds after the house bell has rung. Not a good "feature" if you're not at home but want to talk to the friend/courier/solicitor/potential burglar who just rang the doorbell.

The optics on the camera are not great, the sensor 'sees' well into the infra-red so plant colors can look kind of funny, and the compression on the (not really video - just a series of still images) makes for such a poor effective resolution when it hits your device that many times you won't be able to identify the person at the door.

There is no Windows, Linux, or Mac app for your laptop or desktop machine. I had hoped to monitor the door from my office desk set-up at the back of the house. In the end, I installed an Android emulator (DuOS is awesome) and the Skybell android app but it is not ideal due to the amount of CPU (and focus for the app) that the emulator needs. And the Android app only seems to come up in portrait mode (tilts head 90 degrees to the left to view menu screen on desktop monitor). The iOS app works well enough on an iPad, but I didn't have any iPhones I could test.

When one device just decides to monitor the real-time front door images, the other device gets a doorbell alert as if someone actually rang it. Probably just my version of the firmware...

Other Thoughts: I wouldn't buy this again and I wouldn't recommend this to a friend (though I might recommend it to a full-of-himself colleague who only *thinks* he's tech-savvy, just for fun).

I've designed devices and helped write firmware for small companies like this one. They're understaffed, trying to make a profit, trying to keep up with the installed base with multiple product lines on multiple OS's. It's not a fun place to be and they're always looking for the next revision to fix all of their woes.

This one is better than their initial release but doesn't get the job done yet for me. But I'm not returning it because it is glued, mechanically fastened ('bot wouldn't let me type *scrwd*), and tattooed onto the stucco wall by our front gate, and it still works like a regular doorbell.
