    5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Came with my LG tv and i love it! very slim design to fit anywhere. comes with a remote that can also work for my tv. sleek black finish matches the lg 37" hdtv perfectly. the upscaling works like a charm, and still keeps decent video quality

    Cons: none

2 out of 5 eggsWatch our for warranty

    Pros: good features

Cons: Watch out for LG's warranty. I purchased the RC797T model in Nov 07, the DVD won't read any disks now and LG wants to charge $70 labor to fix. I would not recommend this product because of warranty and other operating problems.
When trying to view digital pictures from a flash drive the pictures load VERY slowly! The digital tuner is a good feature but won't hold the station in tune unless antenna is pointed exactly at the station. This is a problem in bad weather.

4 out of 5 eggsNot bad for what I use it for

Pros: Caught a sale with free shipping! HDMI video output. upconverting (nice job by the way).

Cons: No HDMI audio. That's the reason I only gave it 4 eggs.

Other Thoughts: For what I wanted it for, it's a great find. Half the price of another one I bought for the home theatre, and with the Sony 32" XBR6, puts out a nice 1080p picture.

    4 out of 5 eggsNo DivX/XviD...

Pros: Nice upscale, acceptable startup time, HDMI output, nice button layout on remote, front panel USB port.

Cons: No DivX/XviD support! Flimsy disk tray, no pause button on unit itself, wider than expected (17"x8"), USB doesn't support video (once again, no DivX/XviD).

Other Thoughts: I bought this to replace a Panasonic $45 something or other (which DID support DivX/XviD), expecting that it would also play these formats, I was greatly disappointed to see "disk error" upon insertion of an .avi cd-r... Other than that, it's a great 1080p player for quite a reasonable price.

    5 out of 5 eggsSweet

Pros: Nice Unit; small and easy to operate and install.

Cons: Really can't think of any.

Other Thoughts: a very low profile easy to operate look good unit. Price is very reasonable and New Egg is a great retailer. You can't go wrong with this unit.

3 out of 5 eggsOk "When It Works"

Pros: Good player when it works. Output is clean, ability to change resolution on the front a plus!

Cons: Mine had power issues when I got it, then they went away. Now they are back and it flakes out after you plug it in and see the hello text on the display. It shuts off automatically and I can't do anything about it other than unplugging it, plugging it back in, and it repeats this over and over. Very annoying and after only owning it for 9 months with little use.

Other Thoughts: LG expects me to pay $45 plus shipping to RMA this since it is out of the 90 day warranty, and into the 1 yera manufacturer warranty. NOT worth it given the price of a new DVD player. So watch out when you get this through LG. I will not buy another LG DVD player.

4 out of 5 eggsVery good with one exception

Pros: Fast response to scan, pause, stop. Good image quality.

Cons: Unit powers down after five minutes in standby. Absolutely to over-ride on this feature. Stop a film. Take a break, and you have to wait for the initial start up.

3 out of 5 eggsShop around

Pros: It plays DVD's and upscales nicely.

Cons: Eject button stops working sometimes. It's flaky. One time you turn it on and try to eject and it won't work. Have to use the remote to get it to open and close the tray. Then a few hours later it works. Weird.

Other Thoughts: The DVD tray is really flimsy. I don't recommend this to anyone with small children as this will be the first thing that breaks off the unit.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat DVD Player

Pros: Great DVD player. Upscales nicely, has all the right output types on the back for those who are either using this with an SDTV, or haven't got their HD set yet. Also has a DTS decoder, something becoming increasingly rare in players in this price range. Great picture & sound. My only nit follows.

Cons: Doesn't play VCD, SVCD or DivX/XviD. This is a deal breaker for me. It's going downstairs to the kids' playroom for that reason. We're going to pick up a Toshiba SD-6100 for the living room, since it does those remaining formats.

Other Thoughts: "Computer Doc" seems to think he bought an HD-DVD player. He's wrong. There's a world of difference between an HD-DVD player and a DVD player that has an HDMI port. The former is a dead format, the latter still has new titles coming out for it. BluRay is certainly the future, but I'm not about to touch one. At least, not until I can get a decent player for $200 (the point at which I first bought a DVD player).
