5 out of 5 eggsUpdate to earlier review

Pros: beautiful dvd recordings, lot of features, one cable for both video and sound - hdmi, remote is very useful for all functions and control tvs (aleast my samsung); i think it came with a set of component video cables

Cons: VHS recordings are absolutely horrible compared to HD; unit does not turn off after a period of non-use, takes about 40 seconds to power on and become operational; does not play mp4 video from usb; no clock display when powered off; not absolutely dead silent but not loud either

Other Thoughts: Okay, I've had this for a few months now and I've learned some of the quirks of the unit. When the unit loses power for whatever reason, the clock on the unit keeps time, but the record timer will not read that time. What I mean is the record timer thinks the time is not set. To fix this, just reset the clock. Funny thing is if your house, apt, or whatever loses power regularly and comes back on you may never know that the clock had stopped and restarted until you've missed a recording. Also, I've had trouble formating dvd-ram disks. It may take me 2 or 3 tries to get disk formated. But once formatted I've not had any issues with recording. Oh, speaking of recording, end and start times can not overlap. For example, record 1 has to = 7:00 - 7:59 and recording 2 has to = 8:00 - 8:59, but recording 3 can be set to 9:00 to 10:00 if no other recordings follow. Otherwise, if something overlaps you'll get a failed recording. You won't know this until you realize nothing recorded.

5 out of 5 eggsBeautiful recording and working well

Pros: Multiple recording setting

Cons: So far I can not set the remote to a different frequency. I have a lg blu-ray player also and hitting the power button turns both on or off.

Other Thoughts: I've had it for a few days. Bought some Verbatim 4.7gb dvd-ram discs. HD Recordings in SP mode look just like HD straight from the tv. I have not tried other modes but my guess is the image quality go does accordingly. I am quite happy so far. I hope the other review relating to durability are wrong.

1 out of 5 eggsLG is Pathetic

Pros: Great features, great recording quality, great tuner. A solid 5 eggs, except................

Cons: Reliability is an abomination. This product has a worthless warranty. If I could rrate it a zero, I would

Other Thoughts: Worked great initially. Then it started ot freeze every couple of weeks. Then the DVD drive started spinning noisily all the time if a DVD was present. Last month it started turning off at random. This week it turns off and will not stay on more than 3 minutes. A complete pile. No other way to put it.

1 out of 5 eggsNice looking bundle that will break

Pros: HDMI, upscaling, ATSC Tuner

Cons: Build Quality, Output resolution, auto-scaling (poor stretch), DVD broke after 7 months, Warranty

Other Thoughts: I mainly purchased this unit for it's OTA ATSC tuner and to be used for VCR the upscaling DVD was a nice convenience. I unfortunately did not read the reviews until after I had purchased it adn they mostly said "DVD player will break"...

7months later it's true to form and the DVD blue screens while the rest of it functions properly.

The tuner is pretty good over all and the upscaling does a good job overall on both Standard Def TV and surprisingly well on the VCR.

What frustrates me is it has a limited warranty on a product notorious for breaking. 90days labor so when it breaks they require $69 to repair it after 3 months.

Overall it's probably not worth the money for just a VCR with an ATSC tuner.

1 out of 5 eggsLG does not stand behind its warrentee

Pros: Looks Great
worked great was easy to program and use. Seemed to make quality copies of VHS tapes and seemed to make good quality copies of DVD's for about 4 months.

Cons: Quit about 4 months into the warren tee that I was told was a year when I purchased it. But I quickly found out that warren tee was not real. Seems LG had a 90 day warrante on the product and when I told them of my problem they said you are the only one haveing such a problem. Now I read the same problems from everyone on this list.

Other Thoughts: I purchased 4 products of LG. All of them TV DVD' VCR phone and Blueray player quit within the warrentee period and LG wormed out of the warrentee. My advice is to stay away from LG products. This company dosent seem to honor its products warrentees

2 out of 5 eggsGood for 7 months then constant problems

Pros: Good while it lasted
Easy to record VCR tapes to DVD
Nice menu maker feature

Cons: Sometimes claimed there was a copyright block on VCR tapes that were my own home movies of family
Started having trouble accepting DVDs in tray after about 6 months. Had to unplug to reset, powering it off didnt work.
After 7 months it stopped closing the disk after recording.
Gives format errors. Claims there's no disk, or unable to read disks it just recorded.
About 3 out of 4 disks get wasted trying to get a successful record now.

Other Thoughts: I almost bought a second one about 2 months after my first one, but my daughter had read bad reviews and suggested I get a different brand. I loved this recorder for the first few months, but now it seems it's run its course.

2 out of 5 eggsMy experience with this

Pros: Nice videos when working. Convenient controls when working.

Cons: I had a similar experience with sytem hanging-up many times. Had to often unplug unit for it to reset itself. Until, less than a year of use, when it just would turn on, turn itself off again in a minute. Never giving the menu screen making it impossible to program or even tune it anything.

Other Thoughts: First dvdrw/atsc tuner that has completely died on me. Was it worth it?...

2 out of 5 eggsPoor Quality

Pros: Worked reasonably for about one year.

Cons: Unit will sometimes hang; you will have to unplug to restart.

Other Thoughts: There are numerous negative reviews of this unit on other websites. They all report how the unit quit working anywhere from 1 to 6 months after purchase. My unit quit after about one year of very light use.

5 out of 5 eggsA-OK

Pros: Records excellend quality tapes and DVD off our satellite receiver. Intuitive to set up and use

Cons: None noted so far.

Other Thoughts: Reviewers should be objective enough to restrict comments to the unit they have. Making comments like "all <fill in a manufacturer> are junk" just reveals bias.
