The LG BD390 Network Blu-ray Disc player brings you breathtaking high-definition images and the highest quality audio in the world! You’ll marvel at the clarity and full-color spectrum of every scene, while Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, and DTS decoding pulls you into the action.
LG technology also offers backward compatibility with your legacy CDs and DVDs. Integrated Wi-Fi connectivity with NetCast Entertainment Access technology lets you enjoy entertainment from CinemaNow, Netflix and YouTube just with a TV. With DLNA certified network capability, you can also access videos, photos and music from your home network.
One HDMI port connects to your HDTV Home Theater System or other digital device. Combination of excellent image quality, super fast loading times and its currently unbeatable feature set make it the one you’ve waited for!
Pros: This player plays anything you can throw at it, including the exotic Matroska/H.264 mkv files. Which means you can play all the BDrips, HDDVDrips, adn HDTVrips.
With the firmware at the time of purchase it supported up to L@4.1 profile. It played the @5.1 profile movies but the width of the top and bottom black stripes on a wide-screen (like 1280x548 resolution) movie was slightly narrower. But one day I turned it on it it went on-line through its Wireless-N connection and found a firmware upgrade, and now it plays the latest L@5.1 profile of H.264 absolutely cottectly.
It even plays HD files with .TS extension!
The Wireless N connection is great in terms of range and speed. My TV has an N as well, but it does not reach my N router across the home from 1st floor to the 2nd as well as the LG does.
The menu is owsome and user-friendly. When browsing files on an attached USB harddrive you can switch different Folders View, wich is very handy.
Cons: None at all!
Other Thoughts: People really put many thought in creation of this player.
To those limited-minded folks who complain about irrelevant things:
1) "Universal" remote does not work - what does it have to do with the player?! It is the remote manufacturer who sucked, right?
2) Remote has limited angle. Study some physiscs you ..., and understand the natural limitations of infra-red signal. It is normal to have a limited angle on the remote, has nothing to do with the player!
3) Problems with D-Link router: throw the junk router into the trash, stupido! You are being unreasonable/mindless. It has to do with you cheap junk router, not with the Player!

It's A Great Player! Update your DIR-655 firmware!
Reviewed By: on 6/2/2009
Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 day to 1 week
Pros: - Very good playback of HD material from USB and streamed from home UPNP server (MediaTomb).
- Excellent Menu interface; very smooth and quick compared to others I have used (Samsung 3600, 1590).
- USB has no problem power, and detecting a WD Passport storage devlce.
- Video quality for HD and SD content is consistently pleasing (very little jaggies, and smooth presentation of 24fps material and 60fps material).
- Audio sounds great; all advanced surround formats passed raw to Denon 3808CI worked flawlessly.
Cons: - Awkward power and eject button shape and recessed placement on upper front edge of chassis and are not lit. No big deal as their placement is easy to memorize and I typically use the remote.
-No web enabled remote control or serial port to simplify integrating into semi-automated home theater system.
Other Thoughts: - To the guy who had problems with a D-Link DIR-655, I had the same problems with network connectivity and had to flash my DIR-655 to firmware version 1.31NA. Once I did that everything worked perfectly.
- I haven't tried the WiFi-N yet because I have wired networking in my audio cabinet.
Bought from retail store and then found cheaper on NewEgg :-)

Very good Blu-ray player
Reviewed By: Darrell on 11/11/2009
Tech Level: somewhat high - Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
Pros: Excellent Blu-ray and standard DVD performance. Loads about as fast as the DVD player it replaced, much faster than expected. Network features appear to work as expected (via hard-wired Ethernet). HDMI interface to Panasonic TV works perfectly.
Cons: Still somewhat buggy. Occasional loss of audio sync - BD Watchmen is the most egregious example, but not the only one. Has locked up on standard DVDs a few times. Stop followed by Play fixes both problems when they occur, so they are annoying but not catastrophic. Still running the factory firmware; none of the update descriptions on the LG web site address the few problems I have encountered.
Other Thoughts: Originally connected to 27" Samsung CRT by component interface; display was very good, but not much better than standard DVD. Now connected to 42" Panasonic plasma via HDMI (using cheap cable bought from NewEgg); display is excellent. Network features not extensively tested; the player is used almost exclusively for playing DVDs with the occasional Blu-ray disk.

Three devices in one
Reviewed By: on 10/30/2009
Tech Level: somewhat high - Ownership: 1 week to 1 month
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Serves the purpose of what could also require three peripherals. Works well as Blu Ray player, streaming internet player, and networked media player. Also plays off of media plugged into USB port. This will play off of portable hard drives without external power supply (which another DVD player I've used for USB media cannot handle). Some devices I've used truncate the names of files on external media making it hard to determine which video is which if names are similar. The menus on this drive will truncate titles but the full name is expanded if the cursor is placed over a title. Wireless set up was very easy as it recognized shared drives on computers after setting up. I have not tried the software packaged with the unit. (Initially it would not recognize portable hard drives connected to one of the computers on the network. I found that this was a problem with Windows and easily fixed this with registry changes I found with a Google search.)
Cons: Remote did not work upon receipt--fortunately my Harmony universal remote worked. Manufacturer shipped out a replacement (and New Egg offered to ship a new player over night when I first contacted them. Once I got it working with the universal remote decided to wait for the replacement from LG).
WiFi strength seems week based upon number of bars seen on set up. I currently have this in a room very close to the room where the router is. I am thinking of buying 1 for another room but first will test it as I fear that rooms further away might not work as well.
Recalls last subdirectory which was viewed off a pc but if stop watching something in middle it does not remember the place as with the WD AV players.
Other Thoughts: Vudu gives option of streaming at two different types of high definition. This will vary depending upon internet speed--I currently get good reception with their 720 HD but not their HDX format. The choice of two increases chances users will be able to get some type of HD regardless of internet set up.
Harmony Remote works fine with this. The only problem I've had is that sometimes if the player is turned on before the TV is switched to its input there is no picture. Turning the player back off and then on corrects this. It also happens less often since I've adjusted the Harmony settings to turn it on last.
If I was to improve upon this I would include a USB port both in front (for quick insertion of USB drives) as well as one in back (to allow for permanently keeping a HD drive attached). Of course being able to stream from the pc satisfies the need for a permanently connected drive.
