2 out of 5 eggsWas a good player until firmware update

Pros: Plays just about everything I want it to play including DivX, AVI home videos, Netflix, etc. Even includes DLNA which is a little clunky but still available and works. I was able to play media shared on my Windows 7 PC.
Includes a USB port for updating firmware and for viewing and listening to media on USB hard drive or thumb drive, I've tried both and they work well.

Cons: Ever since firmware update ver. BD.8.97.141D the audio drops out periodically no matter what media I'm watching. with Netflix the audio goes away for about 20 seconds every 15-20 minutes, with BD or DVD it drops for about a second every 5-10 minutes, it's very annoying. I called LG Support and was told I cannot downgrade firmware and would have to send it in for repair. I have tried ressetting it to factory defaults, unplugging it for a while, tried every combination of audio decode / re-encoding I can think of but the problem still exists. I did find that with Netflix, when the audio goes away I can pause it for about 20 seconds then press play and the audio is back.
There was a new firmware released last week ver. BD.8.97.142.D but it did not fix the issue.

Other Thoughts: I just keep hoping a future firmware will fix the problem but I don't know how long I'm willing to wait before just buying a new one.

1 out of 5 eggslg cuctomer service

Pros: while it worked it was great.

Cons: died two months after being taken out of the box.t this was 4 months after purchase.

Other Thoughts: when I purchase a 299.00 electronic device I expect more than 2 months of sevice. After speaking with customer service 2x I recieved no help and was informed that it would cost me 69.99 because the device was more than three months old. I was a former loyal customer of LG's. after this I plan to never purchase LG again, and plan to discourage anyone and everyone I can. If LG can not stand behind their products I will discontinue doing business with them, and I would encourage you to do the same. If I recieve resolution from LG I will update this thread with the resolution.

4 out of 5 eggseasy to use

Pros: Plays Divix and Divix HD perfectly, also not one problem with online apps. very easy to set up and menus are very easy to use. Divix listing is very clear and easy to read. use pandora on it almost every day and have not had a problem yet.

Cons: took off one egg because I couldn't get it to update the software over WIFI. During some BR disk it will pause for about 15 sec. only started doing this after I let it update it's self, but had to do update, because one of my BR wouldn't play untill I did.

Other Thoughts: Hope they figure out the software problem. it's a bit slow at times but all in all I am very satisfied with this player.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Nice BP

Pros: First of all this is a very nice looking player. Set up was a breese I have used both WIFI and hard wired with cat five cable. The wifi worked fine for streaming netflix and other media. Another thing that impressed me was the DLNA. The UI was clean and very simple to use making for a great experience. (os 7 in 64) Another quality I noticed was fast startup times for discs and network play. When you turn on the player it auto switches my television to the proper input neat feature. I would and have recommend this player to anyone I know.

Cons: None yet, the updates are a bit slow but for the price and what you are getting. Just a itch and back side of a elephant.

Other Thoughts: You can't beat that for what this player can do. It's an very amazing deal. You find it for that price, you buy it. The free shipping is just a bonuses for such a great player.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome!

Pros: Great BD player, upscales older DVD'S to near HD quality, Streams Netflix flawlessly without a hiccup, Pandora sounds great.

Cons: Slow updates.

Other Thoughts: I don't normally take the time to write a review buy I am so impressed with this unit I had to post my input.
I am an audiophile and musician, I own Parasound, Vandersteen etc. so I KNOW QUALITY!! and this is a quality unit second to none to my Denon DVD player.
I got this for 165.00 w/free shipping and am loving it.I read a lot of reviews and this unit does everything I was looking for in a BD player.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat so far

Pros: In built WIFI is fast, DLNA works great, easy user interface.

Cons: Firmware updates are slow and I had not got a single successful update installed yet. I am going to give up on that.

Other Thoughts: Its mind boggling that this player gives so many options to play your media. Newegg ships this product in its original box which makes it vulnerable if it is lying at your doorstep when delivered.

5 out of 5 eggsOutstanding Blu-ray player!

Pros: I don't get excited about electronics, stuff either works or it doesn't. Well, this player works, and it works so well that I'm excited. It's just an amazing piece of hardware.

1. Plays everything I throw at it; all discs, files from network drives, USB media, you name it.

2. Great Netflix support with real menus, not just things that are in the instant play queue. You can actually navigate and search Netflix and find something to watch.

3. Fast startup times for discs and network play.

4. Excellent video quality. Even low quality Avi files look decent when scaled to 1080P and DVDs are the best I've seen. Of course, BD playback is stellar.

5. The unit feels like a top quality component, and it's very quiet. Also, the remote is very good, not some cheap piece of junk.

6. Built-in WiFi out of the box and it's pretty fast. I've done everything without ethernet and not had any hiccups.

Cons: 1. Updates are a b*tch. Going to the newest firmware took over an hour. If you want to do it, just set it to start and go to bed.

That's about it.

Other Thoughts: Got it for $169 w/ FS. You can't beat that for what this player can do. It's an amazing deal. You find it for that price, you buy it. No questions.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Buy

Pros: Easy set up & interface. Great picture, sound and remote control.

Cons: Newegg dropped the price $15.00 one week after I bought it!

Other Thoughts: Replaces a Sony BDP-S360 that stopped playing Blu-Ray disks exactly two months after the warrany expired! Beats the Sony hands-down in loading time and quality of picture & sound.

5 out of 5 eggsDOA update - all is well

Pros: This is an update to my original DOA review.

1) Works.
2) Plays AVCHD compressed 1080p blu-ray movies just fine.
3) Able to connect to my WPA2/PSK protected network without a hitch.
4) Was able to download and update to latest firmware successfully after one failed attempt at download and another single failed at installation (as long as it worked and didn't brick my unit in the failed attempt I really didn't care)
5) Plays NetFlix on-demand video just fine
6) Easy GUI based operation
7) no need for spending money on a more expensive unit with internal HD since this one can play from USB/thumb drives

Cons: Not really a con but I would've been useful to be able to connect a USB keyboard for all the bizarre characters needed for my network password.

Search functionality could be better (this is admittedly being very picky)

Other Thoughts: My replacement unit arrived in a timely fashion once the defective unit was received by newegg.

For those of you looking for a 3D capable Blu-ray player that can play all your compressed videos, short of connecting a laptop directly to HD-capable display, this *IS* the best box for you at this time.

I use this box to play my 1080p compressed blu-ray videos (640kbs audio) and playback performance is great. I half expected it to balk at my AVCHD videos under the premise of a slightly non-standard codec or some other such nonsense but I was pleasantly surprised to see it really does work. I haven't tested other formats yet (like XviD) but I think I'll be fine.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: Shiny.
Low profile.
HDMI v1.4
Beefy all U.S.-English product manual.
Claims to play lots of desired formats (e.g., XviD, MKV, AVCHD and other less-than-common extensions).
Lots of other warm fuzzies.

Cons: Defective out-of-the-box.

The tray would not open (but made a sound like it wanted to). Called LG, who did indeed verify after a few no, you didn't miss anyhting steps (is it plugged in? did you open the fron panel? Do you know where the control buttons are? Did you try a factory re-set?) that the "unit may need service."

Also, newegg did not offer to cross ship a replacement, although they did say they'd send a pre-paid return label.

Other Thoughts: Newegg should offer cross ship option with a credit card as means of recourse. I will re-rate this unit once I obtain a replacement.

I do have other LG computer products (including a blu-ray burner) which work just fine.

Hopefully this is just a statistical burp.
