1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Plays DVD's (eventually)

Cons: Has not not played Blu-Ray discs at all.
There's lots of grinding and whirring noises but it will eventually spit out a Blu Ray disc.
DVD's are very slow to load.

2 out of 5 eggsPoor quality

Pros: I've now replaced it with a Sony.

Cons: Worked semi good for first 3 months owned. VERY slow startup. Started "hanging" on discs after 3 months (not scratched discs, NEW discs). Discs would hang at same spots over and over again....so I suspected scratches...not so...they were perfectly unblemished discs which played fine in every other Blu-ray player/burner I own (5).
When I say discs hung, I mean they HUNG...unit would freeze and only pulling the power cord would let me retrieve the disc. Updating, and streaming was a joke also...would buffer constantly or hang when only 25ft from router. My other players zip along with no problems when placed in same location.

Other Thoughts: I got this on sale for $139, and thought I was getting a deal. Not so. Ended up replacing this particular unit with a $69 Sony (no 3D) that runs circles around it. Even out of the box, this unit seemed like a lead brick when compared to the Sony.
Always thought LG was a reliable brand...no more.

1 out of 5 eggsStreaming Applications Problems

Pros: Blu-Ray movies play and the unit has good controls.

Cons: As a blue ray player the model works fine. It plays movies as it should.

However, I have ongoing problems with the streaming video service. First , the NHL application in the premium service doesn't work. There is an ongoing software problem that doesn't allow me to watch any live games. No matter what game I try to watch the application won't play, sighting blackout restrictions. This occurs even though I am not trying to watch a local market team. For instance I am in Southern California and the application wouldn't allow me to watch an Ottawa vs. Philadelphia game. Also, I can watch the game on my PC that is on the same IP address, router and modem as the blue ray player. The customer service at NHL Game Center reports that it is a problem with LGs produced application. I even had LG customer service call NHL game Center service; they were told the same thing. However, LG is stuck on the title "blackout restriction" and just gives me a boiler plate answer about NHL blackout rul

5 out of 5 eggsPlays Everything Needed

Pros: despite the other reviews this player DOES play DIVX, MVK and Blue-rays just fine. It connected to my network (wired) with no issues, I was able to view movies and pictures. It plays Netflix (see cons) and Pandora also. Connected to Picassa (after 2 updates)

Cons: Netflix was a slow to respond when advancing, rewinding, and pausing a movie.

Other Thoughts: I wanted a player that could play DIVX and hook up to my network, but after reading the reviews I was afraid that this player would be able to that. After receiving the player I hooked up the cables and it worked like a charm. It connected my network with no problems. It was able to read my mp3's, my divx and mvk files. I have NOT tried the wireless connection (did not come with this option). I updated the firmware once and updated the Picassa App twice.

1 out of 5 eggsNo DivX Support UPDATE

Pros: ...

Cons: Despite what the specifications state on NewEgg, LG's website, and other retailer websites; this DOES NOT play DivX. I'm a power user and I have tried various DivX codecs to no avail.

I've been working with LG tech support for nearly a month now to see if this can be resolved in a firmware update. The request has been submitted for a couple weeks, but currently remains "in review".

Other Thoughts: UPDATE: it’s now been 5 months since I first spoke to LG regarding the DivX support issue. I have been in continuous communication with them and have every time been passed off and de-railed by LG customer service. They would make it sound like they were working hard on solving the issue when in fact they weren’t. On my last and final call to them on 11/07/11 I was told that they will not be updating the firmware anymore for this player and that it will not support DivX indefinitely. I told them that I purchased the player based on the spec sheet that stated DivX support (since removed from their website) and customer service told me that "they have the right to change the spec sheet at anytime without notice". I asked to speak to a customer service manager and was told that the manager was on another call and would have to call me back. The manager has yet to call me back. Ultimately I was lied to and strung along by customer service. I will never buy an LG product again.

2 out of 5 eggsnot what I wanted

Pros: 3d at a good price

Cons: WIFi ready means you need to purchase a wifi adapter to use it wirelessly. Don't know how I missed that.
Doesn't support composite video

Other Thoughts: New Egg shipped this in the box it is displayed in. Home Depot did the same with a compressor I bought and UPS trashed it. The blue ray player survived with no APPARENT damage. If companies are going to try and save a few bucks by not properly packing items we buy online, I am going to quit buying stuff online. This player is the perfect example: it's not what I wanted but not worth the hassle of returning it. My in-laws will get a new Blue Ray Player while i will be hesitent to buy from New Egg again. Delivery was great as usual got it next day.

4 out of 5 eggsDLNA works well

Pros: I bought this mainly to stream from my Buffalo Quad NAS. Plays 99% of what I throw at it. My package of choice are .mkv files. LG is the only unit that plays .mkv files. Plays HD well. Just be mindful of the encoding and all good. Frequent updates at least show interest in updating product, although I do not see much improvement, did not cause harm. Did not test wireless, mine is on a gigabyte network.

Cons: Loading is slow. However, most are. Does not seem much slower than my Sony.

2 out of 5 eggsPoor performance

Pros: Plays standard DVDs and Blu Ray disk with any problems. Power up and off is slow.

Cons: Very Slow at playing premium sources such as Netflix. Often hangs in spite of having a number of auto updates.

1 out of 5 eggsFollowup

Pros: It probably plays something without being slow or buggy.
Frequent firmware updates that don't seem to fix any issues.

Cons: Most of the time, it takes two power cycles before it will output video.
Netflix freezes the player pretty often.
Many features still say "coming soon".
Rewinding Netflix, DVDs, Blu-Rays, and media usually doesn't work.
Netflix search does not work as other reviewers have said.
Accidentally pressing a button on the remote is almost certain to waste half an hour of your time because the player is so slow to respond and doesn't rewind/fast forward consistently.

Other Thoughts: Buy any other player. This player is so terrible that I will never buy another LG product again.
