5 out of 5 eggsfollowup - must be a dud review

Pros: Size / Rosewill Customer Service

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: First review was a 1 star. Rosewill responded to my email within 30 mins. Shipped a new one to me within 2 hrs. Great customer service. New one arrived today, works as advertised. One happy customer. Thanks Rosewill.

1 out of 5 eggsMust be a dud

Pros: Size

Cons: Never worked. Nothing, no indicator light no charging. Used 2 vehicles. Other car plugs worked, pretty sure. Most are happy with this based upon review on newegg. Mine must just be a bad one.

Other Thoughts: Sent email to Rosewell tech support. Waiting for response.

5 out of 5 eggsDoes what it claims!

Pros: Low profile - sits almost flush in the port.
Sturdy
Indicator light

Cons: 1 Amp. Not for iPads.

Other Thoughts: I bought it for under $4. For that price it's well worth.

Some reviewers complain about how difficult it is to pull this out of the port. I found it easy to do. There is enough space to have a good grip even with my glove on.

I love it low profile. This device makes the usb port look like it came built-in. Cool!

2 out of 5 eggsMelting Plastic??

Pros: Low Profile
LED power indicator

Cons: Very hot
Melting Plastic Smell

Other Thoughts: I purchased this unit to power my Motorola Bionic on long business trips in the car. As soon as I received, I plugged it in to ensure it worked, and my Bionic started charging. Two days later, I started a trip. After about an hour, I began smelling melting plastic in the car (not good). Pulling the new adapter out of the socket, I realized it was very hot. However, there were no (and aren't) visible blemishes to the unit. I was also shocked to find that my phone had not charged during the hour's passing.

Finding it odd, I plugged the unit back into the socket (it was a rental car...worst case, it burns to the ground and I get a new rental). Watching the phone, I noticed that it would charge for awhile, then would show as being unplugged.

I'll be the first to admit, power is not my strong suit. Perhaps the Bionic doesn't like the 1A coming from this unit (it's wall charger is only 850mA). But I would think it would step the power down. Perhaps not.

I've since stopped using this thing as the smell was disconcerting to say the least.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Compact and works.

Cons: Compact and works. Works great on my Harley, fits in the cigarette lighter socket to power my GPS with a 45 degree USB cable and allows enough room not to dent the tank.

3 out of 5 eggsworks okay, hard to unplug

Pros: charges my HTC G2 phone in the car

Cons: . You have to buy your own USB cable, which probably isn't coiled, which means you have a longish USB cable cluttering up your car.

. Once it's plugged into the car cigarette lighter socket, the charger barely sticks out, so it's hard to remove it if you need to plug in something else. My older Motorola charger, on the other hand, had a nice long handle that made it easier to pull it out of the socket quickly.

5 out of 5 eggsExactly what it should be

Pros: Nice and tiny little form factor with simple, low-waste, cute packaging.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Bought two, one for the motorcycle and one for the car. Both slide right in and work fine. Seem well made so I assume they'll last.

4 out of 5 eggsGet what you pay for

Pros: Charged droid 4.

Cons: Right up until it popped in half! I suspect the kids may have played with it.

Other Thoughts: For the price, it was nice. Will buy another one... but keep it out of the kids way.

3 out of 5 eggsBuzzzzzzz!

Pros: Well, it's super versatile. Anything that expects a computer's USB port will be happy for sure, and a lot of other stuff works fine. It's small and easy to transport and doesn't take up space in the car port. While inserted without a cable, you can almost flip the port cover back on top too!

Cons: I drive a lot and so I have my android phone in a car doc on the windshield (yes, I'm one of *those* people). The Moto charger that came with the phone is coiled and if I try to connect that to the doc from where the accessory port is, it pulls on on the doc and twists it around until I can really access the phone. I wanted a charger that would allow me to connect to the doc without this problem.

Additionally, I play music from the phone through an RF transmitter to my regular FM radio (yeah, it's an older stereo with no line in or bluetooth). With this setup and using the Rosewill charger, i get a pretty loud buzz through the system. I don't get one with the Moto charger.

You can hear the sound of the alternator in this setup; the faster the acceleration the higher the pitch of the noise. So, for my very specific situation, it's a no-go for me.

It's probably unfair to knock off 2 eggs for such a specific purpose thing, but I've got to assume someone else out there might be thinking the same thing.

Other Thoughts: It's not a problem with the transmitter setup itself. I can hear the buzz/whine with direct connect headphones to the phone. I haven't tried it with Bluetooth.

Ultimately, my solution was to build a custom cable to extend the Moto charger to the back of the car doc. Some high-end filtered cable might do the trick too.
