5 out of 5 eggsA Great little Flashlight

Pros: I bought 2 of these little jewels. Love em! I keep one at my desk for power outages (I live in the country), and use the other one whenever I have to be out a night. They have a nice heft to them and fit in the hand or pocket well. Used it one night as a safety light when there was a vehicular accident in front of my place. I love it!

Cons: The only thing I would change would be to have fewer options on the push button.

1 out of 5 eggsFailed in less than four months

Pros: Worked well and light was bright. I kept it on my desk in case I needed a brighter light as the room does not have any windows. I normally turn a lamp on but sometimes it is not bright enough. I kept the flashlight on my desk in case I needed more light to see something.

Cons: After a little over three months of infrequent use, I picked up the flashlight to use it and it no longer worked. The lens no longer has a clear center but the clear area is off to the side.

4 out of 5 eggsBest LED Flashlight I Have Used Yet

Pros: -Uses One AA (not 3 AAA like most LED flashlights)
-Rugged, not cheaply made like many of the LED flashlights I have used
-Bright, the Cree LED really does help
-Multiple Light settings, On, Strobe, SOS
-Button to turn on doesn't feel cheap

Cons: The only con I have found is sometimes the focus glass will come loose. It is a simple fix, just tighten the front threads if is just loose. Sometimes it comes off center and you need to completely loosen then recenter then tighten.

Other Thoughts: I love this flashlight and use it everyday. It is bright, rugged and very easy to use. Every time I need a light this thing never fails. If the light starts getting dim just grab the one of ready available AA batteries and toss it in and you are good. I think I have changed my battery 3 times in 4 months with constant use. The battery isn't always completely dead but I like full brightness when in use.

I would most definitely buy it again.

5 out of 5 eggsBest of Class Bug-Out-Bag Backup LED Flashlight

Pros: In my opinion, this is THE best bug-out-bag backup LED flashlight one can have for the following reasons:
0) About an 'Alexander Hamilton' on sale. Reasonable price for value even when not on sale
1) The flashlight consumes ZERO power when the switch is turned off. This is a HUGE advantage over many other small LED flashlights. (see "other thoughts")
2) Compact with great performance for its class in multiple areas (brightness, duration of light on a single battery, water resistance, ruggedness, ease of use)
3) Uses a SINGLE "AA" cell. Can use rechargeable, alkaline, or standard AA battery
4) If use only 1xAA rechargeable means the battery can be recharged quickly and easily by evan a scavenged single LED "yardlight" solar cell
5) Using ONLY 1xAA cell means travelling even more lightly yet still have reliable light for a few hours at a time
6) Single AA cells may be found just about anywhere. Even a partially discharged AA cell provides high brightness in this flashlight
7) Rain is not an issue
8) Strong/rugged design, thick aluminum case with O-rings
9) Quite bright (~280 Lumen at full power) and focus from a tight beam to wide-area flood. Both provided exceptionally even lighting on the unit I received
10) Uses a constant power LED circuit which means even as AA cell voltage drops down, the light will stay bright for most of the AA cell's useful charge. I got just less than 3 hours at FULL brightness with fully charged 2500mAH NiMH AA. Unlike some comparable LED flashlights, it doesn't get really dim after just 30-60 minutes of use and then quickly dim to useless levels after that
11) ~0.98" diameter adapts to bicycle and weapon "ring" mounting systems

Cons: Would be a near perfect small B.O.B. flashlight IF...
0) I REALLY don't like that many of these small LED flashlights (including this one) go through an FORCED user switch programming sequence of "full power", "half-power", "low-power", "strobe", "SOS", and "Off". This is an "emergency" flashlight. Give me simple Full-power/Low-power/OFF or even just ON/OFF [Strobe and SOS are USELESS for most users and if used those modes should save a LOT more power than most LED flashlights do (should operate continuously at LEAST 72 hours of life in Strobe or SOS mode. If I want an automated SOS signal device I'll make one that runs for DAYS not hours)]
1) Wish it used a solid 8-degree PMMA lens (aliexpress) instead of obsolete bi-convex "magnifier" lens. It would have been even more rugged and shorter length
2) Wish it had a "tactical" self-defense bezel
3) Wish it was submersible to 1 meter for >1 hour

Other Thoughts: LOOK OUT! Unfortunately, a LOT of these "multi-mode" LED flashlights consume a little power EVEN WHEN THEY ARE SWITCHED "OFF".
Ideally, you want a flashlight that is really 100% OFF when it is switched "OFF". The old incandescent on/off flashlights worked that way, and SOME of the LED flashlights work this way as well.
Otherwise, when you store them with a battery in them, the flashlight discharges the battery(ies) in 1 to 6 months or so, depending on the flashlight. If you rely on the flashlight for immediate emergency lighting, because of that design after a few months of storage the battery may be too low, or even dead. You could store the battery separately, but then you have to find it and install it...possibly in the dark. The constant low-current discharge in those flashlights may also cause batteries to start leaking MUCH sooner than normally...within months. Thus, you have to replace the battery much more often than with a properly designed flashlight.

THIS FLASHLIGHT USES ZERO POWER WHILE STORED and avoids those problems.

However, as a precaution for any stored electrical devices using non-rechargeable batteries, I recommend changing in fresh batteries at least every 18 months or so. This reduces the chance of leakage/damage to the device and helps ensure a near fully-charged battery is available. If using rechargeable battery/batteries, keep in mind that rechargeable cells "lose" power (self-discharge) even when they aren't installed in a device. Some low-quality rechargeable battery types lose even as much as 1% of charge PER DAY...just sitting on the shelf. Quality alkaline cells are best for long-term storage emergency usage. If you plan to use rechargeable cells, make sure you know HOW to care-for, use, charge, and discharge them properly for maximum life and power

BTW, I found "Sparkletts" and "Niagara" water bottle caps fit tightly over both ends of the flashlight. You may find other brands work. Protects the lens, prevents accidental switching, and left on acts as a diffuser. Most other water bottle caps I tried do NOT fit.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent flashlight

Pros: Bright
Sliding focus
Sturdy button
Low/Medium/High/Strobe/SOS settings
Only requires one AA battery
Sturdy housing

Cons: Modes are nice and all, but there doesn't seem to be a default mode after being off for a set amount of time.

Also, when the flashlight is turned back on, it simply cycles to the next available mode. This means you would have to soft press the button until you reach SOS and then hard press to shut it off in order to immediately get the High mode next time it is powered on. I did not find any instructions to the contrary.

Other Thoughts: It is a very bright flashlight for its size, and can even act as a spotlight on low in very dark conditions.

2 out of 5 eggsDefective

Pros: Bright

Cons: 50 50 chance to get one that works.
Low rating is for NewEgg return policy, cost if you go through them. I used the PO ,First class w/tracking @ 1/3 the cost.

3 out of 5 eggsWorks great if it works

Pros: Very nice aluminum construction, great finish, solid, bright, adjustable zoom and brightness. Takes a standard AA battery, not a specialized one. Compact for glove box.

Cons: Bought three total, one for myself and two for gifts. Opened mine, tried it out with a new battery and nothing. Tested the other two units and they work like a champ.

Other Thoughts: Noticed on the defective unit, the "stud" in the cap that makes contact with the battery had a mottled finish to it like it had been exposed to some sort of liquid. The studs on the two that worked were bright brass color with no finish issues.

Will send the bad one back. Hopefully I'll get one that works!

BTW, I've had very good luck with Rosewill products as they are a great value. I highly recommend the "Rosewill RLFL-11003 3W 220 Lumen Heavy-Duty 3 D-Cell LED Aluminum Flashlight". Wow, as bright as my Maglite at less than half the cost.

1 out of 5 eggsDefective

Pros: it seemed to be solidly built. Newegg service was great as usual that is why I buy all my stuff from them.

Cons: The flashlight I received did not work at all. I tried several different batteries and made sure the batteries were inserted correctly and even went to the store to buy fresh new batteries. But the the dang thing would not turn on.

2 out of 5 eggsOne Worked One Dinn't

Pros: The light that worked worked with just one AA battery, was very bright and behaved as described. Both lights purchased were packaged well and arrived undamaged.

Cons: I purchased two of these lights. One worked and one did not. Only one AA battery fits in the cavity, not two. The one that didn't did not light up. I tried different batteries.

1 out of 5 eggsNot the product it was advertised to be

Pros: This seems to be a nice flashlight.

Cons: Unlike it was advertised--and you can even read in the FAQ--this light does *not* take 18650 cells. I have no AA sized Li-ion cells to test it with, so I can not speak to that compatability.

The light is focusable to some extent. There is a large halo or side spill from the light at a number of 'zoom' settings. Near the tightest focus, the beam is not a circle, but a very clear donut shape. Once fully focused/tightened, the wire bonds on the LED die are clearly visible.

The zoom or focus mechanism is not geared nor threaded. There seems to be an O-ring to provide some resistance to motion, but the head/lens portion of the light needs to be pushed or pulled to focus the beam. This makes it very hard to keep the light focused at a specific setting if the light is to be pocketed or otherwise maniplated.

Other Thoughts: Knowing that the light be getting was not the one I purchased, I would not have bought this light. It's a nice light, but it's not what I was told I was buying.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,
Thank you very much for purchasing this unit.
We strive to provide the most reliable and highest quality products to our customers.

Please note these flashlights do not support 18650 batteries. It is noted on the description it requires x2 AA batteries (regular or rechargeable). Also the Q&A portion on Newegg products is based on customer questions and answers. Unless the response person is Newegg or Rosewill you may need to verify the responses through addtional research.
