Pros: Installation and setup was very easy -- just connect the wires and d/l the software.
Sizes itself in a split window so you can work on your computer while watching TV.
Optimizes the video for variance in your internet connection.
Cons: Not negatives in the since that it doesn't work properly, just limitations inherent with the device: Does not allow recording or pausing of video;
source channel and Sling channel will be the same -- you can't watch channel 122 in San Francisco while your family watches channel 13 back home in Virginia. Changing one changes the other.
Other Thoughts: Works with HD does not mean it streams HD quality signal to your computer. Your user experience will be highly dependent on the quality of your internet connection, particularly upload speeds.

Better than Expected

Tech Level: somewhat high - Ownership: 1 week to 1 month
Pros: Small unit with 1 set of component and 1 set of composite inputs but only 1 set of audio inputs. Excellent video and sound quality. Works with up to 8megs of bandwidth on your home network. Does well when set to 1meg bandwidth over the internet.
Cons: This unit is HD compatible, meaning it works with HD but it does not "Sling" HD, so don't be confused about that. Software was a bit tricky to setup, you have to finish the entire setup or it not work.
Other Thoughts: At $200, for us gadget freaks it's a great toy, my wife let me have it as an early Christmas present. You can get a powerline adapter and take your laptop into any room of the house and watch TV!

Pros: Works great ! if you have at least 1meg up load and 2meg down load.
Cons: Had to upgrade video card and ram on computer but got a great pic in the end.
Other Thoughts: The sling box has now ben running 24/7 for a mouth on my DVR. My son in Iraq loves watching tv from home.

Amazingly cool gadget

Pros: Really cool device. I had it hooked up in minutes, only needed to forward one port in my router and it was ready to go. Works great. Wifey can now watch her "frumpy" movies on her laptop. She's sold. We were able to watch our cable TV quite acceptably on bad quality hotel WiFi. The video quality deteriorated with connection speed but it was still quite watchable. The standalone Sling player is very nifty. You can also install a Firefox/IE player plug-in with a very small footprint.
Cons: No HDMI interface, component only. Does not include component cables. Multiple video inputs (1 component, 1 S-video, 1 composite) but only 1 audio input. Monopolizes your CATV / DirectTV box while in use. This model downconverts HD signals, they still look great depending on available bandwidth but are not HD quality.
Other Thoughts: How cool is it to access your own cable TV box from anywhere in the world? Very cool. My SA8300HD box was in the Slingbox database and it controls it perfectly. It even displays the correct remote control on your screen. Also, the stand alone Sling player has Zap2it. Once you input your zip code it will display your local programming. Cool. I have already decided to upgrade to the SB Pro-HD because of the true HD quality and built in CATV tuner.

Pros: My sling box was worth every penny!!! I travel around the country for work and hotel TV is terrible. I can nearly seamlessly watch DirecTV from any hotel. The sling box guide allows you to scroll through channels like tv guide and double click to watch a channel. It’s better than the guide on the DirecTV receiver. No need to buy a separate tv for a home office either. Works great over a network too!
Cons: When the connect drops below 300 Kbps the quality drops dramatically, but that doesn’t happen that often.
Other Thoughts: Get it, you will thank yourself.
