"Slingbox". Not a very informative description, right? Well, that's why they pay us the big bucks: to tell you what it is and why you should consider buying it. The idea is to let you stream high definition video where you want to watch it, not where it happens to be.
Plug in up to three devices and watch their video anywhere on your LAN intranet, or if you have at least 1.5Mb/s upload and download connections, you can even put it on the Internet. This makes it possible for you to watch on your video-enabled phone, or while you're out traveling for the office. It even lets you watch your favorite shows while you're out of the country. With built-in NTSC, ATSC (digital), and QAM (cable) tuners, you won't go dark when the FCC shuts off standard video signals.
Only you can decide if we did our job by selling you on this, because it's always your decision. But we'll be waiting right here if you want one.

Check your hardware compatability prior to purchase
- Pros: Has great potential.
- Cons: Compatibility. Best sure to check with sling if they currently support the respective equipment you intend to connect. I have a Comcast Motorola DCH3416 HD DVR. These are pretty standard issue from Comcast for digital HD customers however slings IR does not support this remote control of the cable box. In fact they did not support the router either, a Linksys WRT600N. The problem is now that this item is not defective so it cannot be returned.
Can't get enough of it
- Pros: My laptop, Desktop (30" Dell Monitor) have become my backup HDTVs. At work or on the road I can access all my HD and Cable channels. I really use it around the house (kitchen/back yard BBQin) on my laptop so i never miss a beat. I am glad i went with the HD version over the Solo.
- Cons: Not a con for me, but if you don't have good upspeed at home, then you won't be able to benefit from the HD quality.
A little pricey.
- Other Thoughts: Also, make sure you have a cable box that isn't used when you plan on using it so that you aren't locking someone at your house out from watching TV.

Pretty good, with flaws
- Pros: Multiple inputs are great, since I have a satellite receiver and an OTA receiver and want to see stuff on both. I'm getting a good picture on my Mac, though I know it's not HD. Mostly, I care about this working to let me manage my programs when I'm on the road, and it's good for that. This is better than the Slingbox Solo it replaced.
- Cons: I was disappointed that I could not get a proper match with one of my source devices (a DirecTV HR10-250 that's my OTA receiver now). I could find maybe 10 choices that were relevant, but that boiled down to two distinct choices that both have issues. Their device database has issues, and it is harder than I like to try out different options. I was much, much more disappointed to try to get tech support's help on this, I got an absolute idiot who never managed to help me at all.
- Other Thoughts: I'm glad I have this, but after my support experience I would certainly check out other brands first.
Buyer BEWARE
- Pros: This kind of works as advertised but NOT on many systems and not with HDMI connections
- Cons: If your cable box uses RF instead of IR this will not work.
If your cable box to TV connection is HDMI, this will not work.
- Other Thoughts: Advertising doesn't mention these issues at all. BEWARE!!!
Lack of simple features
- Pros: HD on local network
- Cons: 1. Quality very bad if you are watching on Internet.
2. Cannot record (still can't believe they do not have it) 3. 1 watcher at a time 4. No HD for Mac users 5. iPhone soft not a HD 6. Very expensive (comparing to the same HAVA)
I should of go with HAVA.
