Panasonic has been competitive in video for a long time, and this new offering is no exception.
This Blu-Ray disk player consolidates many players into one. Naturally, it can play Blu-ray and regular DVDs; not surprisingly, it can also play CDs. But it can also play MP3s and AVHCDs as well as display JPEG images. Up-converts regular DVDs to 1080p so less of your screen goes un-used even with regular DVDs. HDMI+ connection and 24 bit sound give you the highest quality reproduction for your own home theatre.
Especially for the transitional buyer who already has a lot of DVD and CD disks, this unit offers a lot, and for the newer buyer, it gives versatility to watch what you want. It's your decision and your money, but I think you'll find it's hard to find a better unit at this price.

Great Player, good price
- Pros: Superior image quality and fast load times. The player is also about the same size as a regular dvd player, none of the bulk of the older and some newer blu ray players. Decoding for pretty much all the new audio tracks, solid menu system. profile 2.0 with BD live support. Just a great all around player, i picked it up to replace my hd-dvd player, and i couldnt be happier
- Cons: lcd cant be completely turned off
- Other Thoughts: this is the best player for that price and would be even for a higher price. I passed on cheaper players because of this ones superior performance and features. Worth every penny.
why
- Pros: Excellent Blu-ray player. worth 299 suggested retail price.
Looks beautiful on my plasma. Great color and picture.
- Cons: none. with the player . You can get this player from directly the maker for 299 which is the suggested retail price. I have seen it for 249 on sale.
- Other Thoughts: HDMI cables make a difference. check out HDMI.org for info about Why a HIGH SPEED cable is Needed, and why you shouldn't just buy a cheap slow 5 dollar HDMI cable.

- Pros: Fast load for a BR. Great sound and picture.
- Cons: none
Works Great
- Pros: Great player for the money. Also, the up-converting makes old DVDs look good. Watched the old Terminator 1 movie on it and could tell a difference in quality, then watched Terminator 3 in Blu Ray, WOW! This player is great! Online Firmware updates are cool.
- Cons: Boot up could be faster, but once its up, its fast. Also once your done watching a movie and you eject the disk, the player goes to a "home screen". Right after it goes to this "home screen" there is noise/snow on the screen like in the old days when your antenna was not point right. It gets worse and then disappears. This all happens in a 4 sec time frame. Dose not seam to make a difference in the player, just a quark I guess.
- Other Thoughts: Did a lot of research on Blu ray players and this one offered the best bang for your buck.
UPDATE: Replaced with the DMP-BD60K
- Pros: Read below...
- Cons: Still a bit further below (again...)
- Other Thoughts: I spoke directly with Panasonic, they indicated that it was "unlikely" that I would find this model out in the wild, to include it not being available directly from them as it normally is.
This individual said that this unit would be replaced with a DMP-BD60K which was due out in APRIL!?
This I don't get, but what can we do?
Also, one last thing, the MSRP on this unit is two-ninety-nine..., I found one reseller asking ~nine-hundred!
It's a good unit, but not that good, or even close to that good.
