5 out of 5 eggsNETFLIX SLOWED BY INTERNET PROVIDER

Pros: The players is flawless. Works on all disks. I read an article that the network providers, Comcast, Verizon and others, are slowing Netflix data on purpose. If your Netflix is taking forever to load, it's NOT this players fault. Complain to your network provider for being a jerk and not giving you the speed you pay them for on all traffic equally. It's actually a breech of contract for many of the providers.

Cons: none

5 out of 5 eggsSweet

Pros: This was my first stand alone blu-ray player and it has all the features I wanted. It loads discs quick, has a nice interface on the player. The quality looks amazing coupled with my Samsung LED 7000 46'' 3D TV. I love the stylish look and the playback is flawless. DVD's look brand new too. Couldn't be happier ! :)

Cons: IF I had to pick a con, its very minor but on my Samsung LED, it thinks that this player is a 3D player for some reason and when I have 3D detection set to auto, it changes it and the image is distorted. Not a huge problem, I just set the 3D detection to Message Notify, and then I just leave it when it comes up and says 3D hardware detected Press 3D to activate. Again no big deal, I assume the firmware or player was manufactured along with Panasonic's other players that are in fact 3D and that one feature could be locked on it or something.

Other Thoughts: I also have the Samsung 5500 blu-ray player for 3D I got in a combo with my TV and I still enjoy using this player for regular 2D blu-ray and dvd playback. The quality for price is amazing. On some movies, along with testing the picture settings on both players and in conjunction with my TV, some movies look better on this player to me for some reason.

4 out of 5 eggsOutstanding

Pros: I wanted a basic player that could play +DL burned dics as well as MP3 format discs. I have no interest in a LAN or streaming video. The player does a great job upconverting non-Bluray discs.

No problems updating the firmware via CD.

Cons: According to the manual, there are 5 search speeds. That seems to be the way to fast forward or fast reverse to find a particular spot. Every other player I've seen allows you to search for hours and minutes. This one doesn't so I knocked off an egg.

Other Thoughts: Regarding having to log-in and do everything short of placing the order to find the price: This seems to be a trend on many other websites as well.

4 out of 5 eggsBasically what I wanted

Pros: Netflix button on the remote
DLNA support (Tversity recognizes it)
BluRay/DVD support

Those 3 things are what I bought it for. It does more, but not seemingly much, and I'm fine with that. For the $80 I bought it for here, it's a perfect value. For the $100 that it looks to be for right now, I still think it's worth it.

Cons: DLNA - Tversity recognizes it as a PS3. This might be the cause of some of my problems, but sometimes the audio gets out of sync. Some shows, a quick rewind fixes this. Other shows can't rewind and just start over. I'm thinking that I should blame this on the Transcoding and it may not be the panasonic's fault, but it should be noted.

Netflix - I like the netflix menus, especailly compared to my brother's LG bluray player. That said, I see room for improvement; eg: long category listings can get cut off. Tried to watch Henson's Storyteller ep1, but it failed to play after retrieving it. Don't know why. Sound levels seem a little quiet

Network connection - Seems a bit wonky to connect. Initial set up took many tries and rebooting my router and modem before it saw the interwebs. Every once in a blue moon it can't find my DLNA server. Every problem connection problem has been fixed with a second attempt though (except initial set up, but even that was easy in the end)

Other Thoughts: Like I said, I only wanted a few features and I wanted cheap, and this looks to be exactly what i wanted. I would love to have a few more minor features work better/differently (eg: the tv volume/power buttons on the remote be programmable and not only viera-link) and if TVersity had better support for it*, but all in all, I'm very happy with it thus far. Now to play some Bluray's on it.

* - As stated, TVersity picks it up as a PS3 and looks to transcode most everything to mpg's. Some things will rewind, some won't. The scan forward and backward is a little slow for my taste and if you go too fast it may jump to the end/beginning, but I don't see this as a huge issue once i get used to it. It won't replace my xbox as a DLNA player (what I currently use) but it will supplement it just fine (in a different room)

4 out of 5 eggsAffordable

Pros: -price
-network apps are solid
-loads blu-ray discs almost as fast as my computer (mad men s3 took about 8 seconds, avatar took about 15 seconds)

Cons: during Netflix streaming my unit sometimes will freeze and go unresponsive. I have to unplug the entire thing and plug it back in. Probably a memory issue, this thing doesn't have much.

sensitive to small scratches in the Blu-Ray discs. Not a big deal if you have a personal collection, but with slightly scratched Netflix dvd/bluray in the mail I had some problems.

Other Thoughts: I got this for 89 dollars in the store with a coupon and I think its a steal.

I think they should switch the power button and the open tray button. Whilst intoxicated in the dark i always get them confused (they are on far opposite sides)

1 out of 5 eggsOpen Box

Pros: Wired Lan that Supports DLNA (shared videos over home network) & 4 Internet Apps. Also has front usb for external drives, 1080p upconverter, fast boot up time. Had everthing I was looking for in a Blu Ray Player.

Cons: I am hoping that the Lan adapter in the player was faulty because it would frequently have trouble connecting to the internet and lan. When it was working, Netflix loaded extremely slow if it loaded at all. I purchased an Open Box version which I was expecting like new, but I received in poor condition (scratched up, missing all orginal packing, no instructions) in addition to the above problems.

Other Thoughts: I sent this item back and ordered new, hoping that the new one will function correctly.

4 out of 5 eggsNo complaints for the price

Pros: Picture looks great to 37" 1080P LED TV, load times are good. No issues updating firmware. Can't complain about the price.

Cons: The Netflix interface is pretty poor compared to Xbox 360. Luckily I have the Xbox also connected so I just use it whenever I want to stream Netflix.

Other Thoughts: If you primarily want a cheap (but solid) Blu-Ray player from a reputable brand without a lot of bells and whistles, I think this is a great choice.

1 out of 5 eggsInternet Failed

Pros: plays blu-ray disks

Cons: Plugging in the ethernet cable hangs the user interface. Same symptoms using the latest 1.19 firmware.

Other Thoughts: Bought this for the DLNA and Netflix ability and it fails on both counts so it's going back to the store.
