Pros: For the money, you can't get Dolby Digital much cheaper.
Cons: Be warned if you use HDMI cables, you will need an optical cable for audio. It is also missing some of the new surround decoders. For those that have older TVs, this receiver doesn't allow much flexibility. You cannot pair an optical in with a standard A/V in. This is an important note for those who run a PS3 on a standard def TV. You will not be able to use this receiver.
Other Thoughts: If you want to run audio and video over HDMI, spend a little more money and get a receiver that has Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD decoders.

Pros: Great sound for the price. Unit does exactly what it is designed to do. Power must be on for HDMI passthrough and sound must be a separate digital cable.
Cons: None so far.
Other Thoughts: This unit replaced a STR-DG520 since I needed three HDMI inputs. My 50" flat screen is wall mounted and I could only fit ONE HDMI cable up the conduit. I run a Dell Studio Hybrid HTPC, a Motorola HD box and a DVD, all with HDMI, to the Sony unit. The unit has optical inputs for the Dell and the cable box and a Coax in for the DVD. I turn on the unit with a Logitech remote and everything functions.
Works great for this application.

Pros: Its a good receiver but has issues
Cons: I used this to run hdmi from my computer to this reciever then hdmi out to tv. If you do it this way you get no sound from the speakers on the receiver only the tv. it passes directly through and the reciever only acts as a switch. only way to make it properly is to use optical toslink which my computer doesnt have. I had to take down a spdif coax/optical bracket and run it of the spdif header on motherboard. kinda defeats the purpose of having hdmi.
Other Thoughts: I wish there was someway to transfer sound directly from hdmi to reciever instead of it being a switch.

Pros: For the price this thing packs a large boom. After setting this up and configuring I initially tested on the medium high range thinking it would need to be. I was dead wrong. I could have sworn a Jumbo Jet had flown by my house. Glad the neighbors next door weren't home. This is a great base and I hope it last a long time.
Cons: None and for the price it could last only a year and still be worth the investment
