Pros: Receiver has HDMI repeater (passes audio through HDMI to TV) which means no need for separate audio cables to HDTV. This also allows for watching of TV while having a separate audio source playing through receiver speakers. (i.e. -- Playing video game while listening to music)
Allows for 7.1 and 5.1 setups, among other lower settings as well. Auto calibration of speakers through included mic. Unique settings for each input allows you to save settings based on input type (i.e. - multi-channel stereo for FM tuner and 5.1 surround for HDMI input). Ability to work with iPod dock, although I haven't used it.
Contrary to documentation, HDMI-CEC (Bravia Sync) works with non-Sony brand TVs (although this feature is quite limited in functionality, mentioned in Cons). I'm using it with LG 42" LCD. Doesn't run too hot either.
Screw plug speaker inputs rather than spring loaded inputs so wires stay in place.
Energy Star compliant.
Cons: Although remote has plenty of controls for receiver, universal controls are somewhat limited and borderline useless for controlling anything outside of a TV (on/off, channel/volume) and a DVD/BD player. I would definitely suggest a Harmony or comparable remote.
HDMI-CEC (Bravia Sync) is borderline useless since it only has abilities to turn TV off automatically, but not on. This may be a non-Sony brand TV issue (I have an LG TV), but from research I've done (Engadet's short article on the STR-DH800 for one), it appears to affect Sony brand TVs as well. Overall this feature is just a bullet point and really should be treated with any expectations, regardless of receiver manufacturer.
Does not allow for passthrough of component input video through HDMI output to TV. I believe this is an issue with a lot of receivers, but would still be appreciated.
Other Thoughts: I got this unit when it was on sale at Newegg for $279 ($130 off regular price at the time) and it is definitely worth it. Feature for feature, this receiver stacks up nicely compared to other, comparable receivers. Although I'm def no audiophile, the quality sounds great through my Polk Audio 5.1 speakers.

Pros: Has what i need and nothing extra to raise the price. Sets itself up in minutes. By far the easiest receiver i have ever used. Auto everything is a good function, but sometimes it gets it wrong. Not his time. Works exactly how i wanted. Its my second Sony Receiver and I'm really happy i bought it.
Cons: None so far, it looks nice, works perfect
Other Thoughts: Doesn't upscale. That's okay with me because my cable, Xbox, DVD player, and computer are all HDMI and don't need it. Saves you a couple hundred bucks when compared to any other receiver on the market that has these features.

Other Thoughts: Good all around reciever capable of decoding Dolby True HD. Great to connect to bluray. I have mine connected to PS3 in a 7.1 config and works good, especialy on games. I don't hear much of the difference between Dolby Digital and TrueHD. Of course, the better the quality of your speakers, the better the sound as well. I have old SONYs, so I get a mediocre sound.

Good receiver, but...

Pros: Good sound, flexible. Note: I do not use the video/HDMI switching. I only use the receiver for audio. Plenty of power. Very strong bass to the subwoofer. "Equalizer" is basicall bass and treble. This is a plus to me as I find the fancy multi band equalizers a big pain to use.
Cons: Display is WAY too small to see from across the room. There are no shortcuts to oft used settings like "rear level, center level, sub level, etc". You have to go into the Amp Menu, Level and so forth. This is too clumsy when you are watching something on TV or watching a movie. My previous Sony had these shortcuts.
Other Thoughts: Has automatic setting via a little microphone (supplied). This "sort of" works, but I had to tweak the settings.

Pros: Nice unit, I replaced my Onkyo TX-SR702 as it had no HDMI inputs and the unit distrubutes the sound to the surround speakers even better then the Onkyo unit, which was a nice suprise. Easy to set up and sets speaker levels so all sound is heard front to back without trying to listen for it. Local stores selling this unit for $399.00 plus tax. No complaints here.
Cons: If you need it, it has no up conversion but I did not as only only use this to watch true HD via bluray or DishHD. So really none for me.
