Pros: . use for home office audio: great sound. . straightforward set up, with or w/o osd. . you still need to consult the manual though. . multiple input options, and ample hdmi and digital audio inputs: 1 coax, 3 opticals. . sound: 110 WATTS WITH VERY LITTLE DISTORTION AT HIGH VOLUMES, NOT AS CRISP AS MY PIONEER 919 VSX, BUT VERY PLEASING. . YOU CAN SET UP THE X OVER FOR THE SUB FOR EVERY SET OF SPEAKERS, NICE FEATURE, goes as low as 40 hz . MULTIPEL SOUND FIELDS OPTIONS, less if analog audio source IS used. . have it hooked to 2 M-60 polksaudio monitors, 4 cieling speakers 120 w/each, 100 w power sub: great sound quality, fills the room and is warm at high and low tones. this unit can drive all speakers & delivers a poweful sound. . Definetly need a SUB: Even with the M-60 Freq. range 42-25 khz, still the sub made the all difference in the sound. . remote : easy and large & controlls all sony equipments. . stylish, shiny, black, hidden buttons behind seemless front door.
Cons: . not backlit remote: a big minus, not enough to take out an egg though. . runs a little bit "warmish". but it is a huge powerfull machine. give it enough space to breath. . price high still, got it for less then waht newegg has it offered for... sorry new egg lost on this one. . compared to the yamah 565 and pioneer 919, it comes second after both, but may be b/c i am not yet too familiar with it....will update later. . need large finegrs to control the remote with ease. i.e.: volume button all the way down and sudio sources all the way up. not very ergonomic, but still beats the yamaha 565 awful remote. . no scene buttons like the yamaha remote has. not a big problem: u have to push 2-3 buttons not only one. this is nitpicking,.. . upscale only to 1080i. but process trueHD, AND MORE ADVANCED SOUNDs packages.
Other Thoughts: all in all worth the (...) dollars i paid for, but honestly if the pioneer vsx 919 was not on back order i would have got it instead, ..the 2 machines are very similar, but i prefer the pioneer 919 for it's power and purer sound..( not very discernable however). this receiver is a great center processor for any audio or video equipment. I recommend it w/o reservation for under 300 dollars (shipping included).

Pros: Easy Setup, great sound. have PS3, Blue Ray, HD DVR Box hooked up through HDMI... output via HDMI to a 52" Sony LCD (Z series)
Cons: OnScreen GUI is a little slow
Other Thoughts: Cannot go wrong at this price point. If you need a AVR with 4 HDMI Input and you do need pre-outs, then get this SONY.....you wont be dissapointed.

Pros: I connected the DN1000 to a 40" Sony TV, a Sony Blu-Ray Player, and a Acer Revo 3610 (for Boxee and other online/digital video).
The sound quality is very good. Took some time to set up. Speaker connector screws are a pain to turn, but you only do this once.
Bravia Sync works great with my family of Sony products. If I use the TV remote, the entire stack of equipment switches to the TV + Surround Audio. If I use the Blu-Ray remote, it switches to blue ray
FM radio is very clear.
Price is good for what you want.
It looks great. It's low key in the living room. Not too many buttons and knobs. It's not a mission control center, it's a living room. We like to keep it that way.
It was easy to use the included microphone to balance the speakers. This took me a long time with my old system.
Overall, I'm very happy with this purchase. It replaced a pioneer VSX-710 that died after 10 years of use.
Cons: The remote has HDMI 1 through 4. Strangely, I can assign the BD button to an HDMI port, but I can't assign the HDMI audio.
If I want to use HDMI video and audio on the same port, I must use one of the HDMI buttons. This is weird and confusing for people other than me. This is a minor annoyance.
It takes about a second for the DN-1000 to recognize the type of digital signal. I route my video and audio from my PC (Revo 3610) through the HDMI port on the receiver. Unfortunately, audio is always muted for a second before it can realize which type of format of digital audio coming through HDMI. I've gotten used to this. It was annoying at first. Sometime when I un-pause video, you miss one or two words before sound kicks in. I imagine all new receivers do this, since they have to deal with many different audio formats.
Other Thoughts: I don't use any of the TV and Music sound fields. I find the standard mode is the most pleasing. If the producer of music or sound wants to change the sound field, they can do so.
I haven't tried using the up-scaling feature of this receiver yet. Like many people pointed out... how many analog devices do you have left these days? How many of them will you want to have in a year?

Pros: Best value for $300 right now. Great looking box. GUI helps in set-up and is very easy. Video upconverts to 1080i. I watched an old VCR tape that looked great. 7.1 channels. 4 HDMI inputs. Decodes all surround sound formats, including TrueHD and Dolby Pro Logic IIz. Is Sirius ready. Automatically calibrates your speakers for best surround sound.
Cons: Speaker binding posts very close together - I highly suggest using banana plugs to avoid shorting out speakers. Remote does not control my Dish satellite receiver or my JVC VCR - a universal remote will solve that problem. Must use Sony S-Air speakers for Zone 2 and Sony DM-Port for iPod input.
Other Thoughts: Why pays hundreds more? This budget box is incredibly featured and does it all. Sony has just announced an upgraded receiver called the STR-DN1010, which includes 3D video switching (I'm not ready for that one yet). Newegg was great, with 2 day free shipping. Great purchase!
