Other Thoughts: This system really is great, but you have to know going in that you won't feel like upgrading any of the components. I work in bluray QC as a living, at my work we have systems ranging from $400 - $10,000. I can honestly say that this performs like a $1,000 system once you get it calibrated correctly. As every other review has said, you'll need to turn down the bass and probably the sub levels after auto calibrating, then its just a matter of getting the individual speaker levels correct. Once you do get this setup correclty you'll be pretty amazed by the sound quality. Neweggs pricing and shipping is amazing, even after adding an extra hdmi cable + tax the price was still $35 cheaper than the retail stores price not including tax. Ordered on Wed. received it on Friday.

Pros: For the money this kit is a complete and total homerun if you have the pieces to really use the SS360 as it was intended.
1. 3 HDMI inputs!! Finally, Comcast HD, PS3 and a my HD video camera can all stay connected and switch with one push of the source button.
2. Linear PCM uncompressed, multichannel audio as originally intended (BD disc)!
3. 96k, 24bit audio
4. 1080p, 24p HDMI to the TV
5. Sleek and low-profile look -- low-key illumination during movies (and the display can be turned off)
9. oh... AND they throw in some speakers and a sub... !
10. What can I say -- I really love this receiver and I am the farthest you can get from a Sony fan-boy!
Cons: 1. The extreme value presupposes several HDMI devices to intergrate: PS3, XBox, Comcast, Direct TV, Video camera, etc.
2. 5.1 speaker kit performs admirably but it's not intended to play with big boys -- however, in a small room, they do yeoman's duty. However, it's easy to swap out the speakers with your own.
3. Sub is passive, and there's no line-level sub out on the receiver. Either live with the sub, or get a speaker-level to line-level converter and use the powered sub of your choice.
4. Switching sources may take a bit longer than it should (I'm nit-picking here), and if you are listening to audio and you shut off the TV, the sound stops for a few seconds (again, I'm nitpicking).
5. Not replacing my Harmon Kardon overkill receiver as soon as the SS360 came out!
6. Speaker cables have proprietary connectors (at the receiver) so speaker wire upgrades are limited to a guy online. However, the speaker-end of the cable is bare wire, so you can connect your own
Other Thoughts: This is really a wonderful piece of home theater gear. I am more excited about this receiver than I was when I paid $1000 for my HK AVR525 about 7 years ago.
Home theater has come so far in those years and HDMI and blue-ray have really changed the game some. blue-ray video and audio offer the ability to see and hear almost exactly what the movie producers intended, but you need the gear to decode it all and bring it into your livingroom.
Really, that's what this Sony does really well. It connects all that glorious 1080p (and 24p) video and luscious 96khz, uncompressed multi-channel audio in today's HD sources and passes the video to your display while decoding the digital audio (in an ALL digital path through amplifier) to your 5.1 speakers.
My sources all connect to the SS360 with one HDMI cable, and then the SS360 connects to my Plasma via another HDMI -- so clean!
I based my purchase on all the great reviews -- but seriously, it surpassed my expectations.

Pros: The system worked as advertised, for a couple of days. Not earth skaing, but not bad.
Cons: The one HDMI port flaked out and gave me borken video after 4 days of use... Sony makes me send it back to New Egg, won't repair it locally. Seriously, to pay for shipping and whatnot, it's stupid for a simple solder or plug replacement.
Other Thoughts: I hate to pay for shipping on an item that is defective, it's the one reason to shop at Best Buy for an item like this. If you have a problem, you get a new one that day, not in a few weeks.

Pros: I know that sound quality is all a matter of opinion and I will say...I have never owned an extremely high dollar sound system, but this thing sounds awesome to me. Extremely easy setup. Perfect for people who have nothing but HDMI inputs as it is a very small stylish amplifier without all of the inputs that very few people use anymore. The bass from the non powered sub is insane...the video pass through is very nice and the picture quality is untouched, just as if you were plugging hdmi directly into the TV.
Cons: bass is too much for me because I live in an apartment, its a sure fire way to get evicted. I would say don't get this if you live in an apartment but honestly i doubt you should have any type of sub in an apartment. I just disconnected the sub and use the surround sound for the realism. Unfortunate, I know, but I don't want all my neighbors mad at me.
Other Thoughts: If you don't live in an apartment I would highly recommend this system.
