Pros: Price. You can't find many good all inclusive sound systems for under $300. This system comes with the 5 speakers (plus sub) and a receiver and can pack a punch. My wife could feel the subwoofer pounding upstairs and when playing COD4, she said it sounded like a warzone in the basement. When building a home theater, I knew I was going in with a tight budget and I was not expecting this quality out of something at this price.
The color coding of the speaker plug-in is nice since it makes it pretty easy to know which wire is for which since they are all run together through the ceiling and wall.
The design is very sleek and attractive. Looks great!
Cons: The color coded speaker plug-ins is a pro and a con. If I wasn't happy with the speaker quality, I wouldn't be able to replace them with any speaker because of this unique plug in. However, the opposite end of the wire is the standard red/black wire, so making extensions was easy.
The front speaker cords are way too short. I had to buy some speaker wire to extend them. I also had to extend the rear cords, but I expected that since my room is a little longer than a traditional home theater would be.
A CD/DVD player combo would have been nice. I would have paid another $100 for a blue ray player to be included.
Other Thoughts: If you are on a budget and want surround sound, this is the selection for you. The speaker/receiver combo at this price really saved me a lot of money and I would certainly recommend this purchase to anyone that was looking for a 5.1 system. Some reviews say it doesn't handle music well, but I thought it was great.

Pros: Sound quality, easy hookup, 3 hdmi in that actually grab the audio signal, price
Cons: Inability to upgrade
Other Thoughts: This system really is great, but you have to know going in that you won't feel like upgrading any of the components. I work in bluray QC as a living, at my work we have systems ranging from $400 - $10,000. I can honestly say that this performs like a $1,000 system once you get it calibrated correctly. As every other review has said, you'll need to turn down the bass and probably the sub levels after auto calibrating, then its just a matter of getting the individual speaker levels correct. Once you do get this setup correclty you'll be pretty amazed by the sound quality. Neweggs pricing and shipping is amazing, even after adding an extra hdmi cable + tax the price was still $35 cheaper than the retail stores price not including tax. Ordered on Wed. received it on Friday.

Pros: This is an addition to my previous review since a part of it did not appear on a web site:
The sound is natural, big, and very detailed. It is not difficult to find optimum placement for small unobtrusive speakers; and the rest is assured by an auto calibration procedure. There are plenty of digital and analog inputs for all realistic connectivity needs. I left my receiver in MOVIE-DSC mode, which in my opinion produces the most satisfying sound for all listening occasions from 2ch stereo to a full 5.1 soundstage. So there is no need to be concerned about selection of suitable sound field each time – just switch it on and enjoy. The visual appearance is high quality, modern, elegant, and unobtrusive. Expressed in other reviews is the speaker size vs. quality concern – well, if system sounds good it really does not matter what size and material they are… Newegg is as usually hard to beat price-wise, fast in processing and shipping (in my hands on the 2nd day from order date!)
Cons: Nothing new, please refer to my previous review.

Pros: This receiver delivers 80% of overall satisfaction at just a few hundred dollars. The remaining 20% will cost thousands… And in most cases, at least half of advantages of pricey “dream system” will be lost to imperfections of: room acoustics, speaker placement, system calibration, and listening position.
I do not think that the big performance of this system is a steal at this price range. It is rather a careful optimization on Sony’s part of what is a real value added in the terms of feature contents. Considering that the latest BD and DVD players do really a good job in processing the video and audio signal on their own, there is no need in redundant capability of the receiver. Accordingly, strip a $1000 receiver of unneeded 5.1 analog inputs, other audio & video gadgets of the past, and the remaining hardware will fit well into a $200 - $300 price range.
The sound is natural, big, and very detailed. It is not difficult to find optimum placement for small unobtrusive speake
Cons: Shipping packaging - this time it was very close to DOA – the original Sony packaging box was damaged in route to a point of cracking internal Styrofoam enclosure which holds the receiver. Double boxing could prevent this from happening.

Pros: First off this has plenty of inputs for any normal home theater. 3 hdmi, 2 optical, coaxial, and some other analog inputs. For the price the sound is great. It auto detects the signal it is getting and adjusts output accordingly, and if you don't like what it chooses you can change it to how you like. The receiver is very tweakable, and you really can get the type of sound out of it that you really want.
Cons: Not all the inputs are seen as their own seperate inputs. So on the back you have an hdmi labeled Sat, but one of the the optical, and the coaxial input are also labeled Sat. They are all linked in a sense. So if you have an hdmi in the input labled sat then you can no longer utilize the free inputs labeled sat. I find this to be a design flaw but doesn't interfere with my setup, and probably won't with most people who are looking at this level receiver. Also even though you can tweak the receiver the menu and settings arent displayed on your tv. You have to use the little display on the front. If you're tech savvy then a quick skim of the manual and some playing around and you'll figure it out in no time, but for someone that really doesn't know much about tech then it would be hard to get the receiver to perform at its best. Also the center speaker is a joke. the actual speaker diaphragm is only about 1x2 in.
Other Thoughts: This really is a great product, and a great value. If you are looking for a system for a real home theater this isn't for you. This is more for someone with a setup in a smaller room, basically a bedroom. So if you are just looking for something in a bedroom, or other smaller type setup this really is the best thing around IMO. Also i suggest getting a different speaker for the center, luckily i was replacing an older setup so i had a speaker left over. If you aren't very good with tech and sound, find a friend who is and have them tweak the sound, or else you will be losing out on some great sound. I'm so happy with this receiver, and now i have 3 hdmi inputs instead of just 1.
