4 out of 5 eggsDecent system

Pros: Easy to setup, clear sound, loud without distorting, and gui is easy to navigate.

Cons: sub has to be near the sound bar due to the speaker wires being proprietary.

Other Thoughts: I wanted a full surround system but my wife did not want the speakers on the wall. The system is definately worth the money.

4 out of 5 eggsHappy New Egg Customer

Pros: Very happy with service and delivery was 24 hours from completion of transaction. Input devices are TV,PC,360,PS3 HDMI connected and select them all through the remote control.

Cons: Takes a couple of seconds for the sound to come on when changing input devices. Sometimes I have to press the remote control buttons twice to do a selection.

4 out of 5 eggsAdded to a 46" Sony Wega

Pros: Had some struggle on where to locate the sound bar. Ended-up putting it on top of the TV using a wide strip of Velcro. Stable and unabtrusive. Sound quality is solid. The provided remote works with all my devices so that's promising. I have it set up with a digital audio cable out of the TV to the Sony brick. I did route a HDMI cable to the TV for GUI setup. Seems straightforward so far.

Cons: Not really a con, but it took me a while to realize that you don't use the TV sound with the new equipment (rtm :D). It causes an echo effect. Turn the TV sound down, and all is good.

I find the GUI awkward... have to tune the TV to the HDMI input channel to display, wouldn't have to if all the video was routed to the brick and then to the TV... but I just want the sound for now. Not a major issue though, since once it's setup you just use it. Nightime mode option makes a lot of sense... why is it buried in the menu tree?

Other Thoughts: I'm intrigued with all of the options possible between the DMPort, and using some of the other multimedia receiver controls of the Sony sound brick. It will be fun to play with particularly as I move components over to HDMI over time. It has improved my TV sound quality while remaining a simple arrangement (and passed the girlfriend acceptance test). A solid audio package...

5 out of 5 eggsSony HT-CT500 HTIB

Pros: Simple system without the agony of wiring 5 to 7 speakers around the space, does upconverting of signal inputs to HDMI, 3 x HDMI inputs, 2 x Composite inputs, 1 x Component input, Digital Optical input, RF Coaxial Digital Input, AM/FM Tuner, Looks good, sounds better, and is easy to hook up and use. 400w of power - subwoofer will rock the house upstairs and down.

Cons: It's not a 5.1 Surround Sound system, but that isn't what you ordered, now is it? At the $399 price point, was hard to find on the net. Once again, NewEgg comes through - and with free shipping to boot!

Other Thoughts: Did lots of research on HTIB systems to go with my new LG 55LH90 LED/LCD TV. I have a long finished basement, but the setup is across the width of the space. I knew wife would dislike having speakers hung all over the walls and wires running under the carpet, so I decided on a sound bar system. I looked at several incl Samsung and Boston Audio, but couldn't find any that would do upconverting (for less than $500) to the TV to minimize the number of cables going out - I wanted a simple hookup to the back of the TV and the "wife seal of approval". Found the HT-CT100 and then the HT-CT500 on the net. HT-CT500 does upconvert, simple compact system, easy to set up and use, well within my budget. Lots of inputs. It isn't a surround sound system...but the sound quality is quite good, particularly in Movie mode. 400w of power and the bass will rock the house. Very pleased with the system, and NewEgg's price. As long as you are not dying for true 5.1, the sound is quite robust - I love mine.

5 out of 5 eggsSuperb

Pros: I recieved the ct500 2 days after delivery. Setup time was about 10 minutes(if that). I also loved the way the items are packaged. They are in the box very secure and protected. Now about the unit itself: sound is excellent (connect a ps3 and listen to the blurays with dts!!) Hdmi switching is a breeze. I also love the fact that I have a powerful sound system in 1 bar and 1 sub, no more wires and obnoxious looking speakers all over the living room. The sound bar sits right in front of my tv and both have the glossy black finish, so they compliment each other well. Highly recommended if you want a system that produces great sound and is space saving.

Cons: Nothing bad to say.

3 out of 5 eggsHow Can I ?

Pros: This is not a rating on the actual product. I've heard this is an awesome sound system for the price. Never found out. Shipment never made it to my door.

Cons: Was the shipment lost or was the package ever shipped??? Probably will never get that question answered.

Other Thoughts: Second time this issue has happened with an order from NewEgg. Do they oversell "on sale" items then conveniently "lose" them in transit. UPS says the item never actually got scanned at origin although NE says it did. Regardless, I received a full refund, still irked I didn't get my sound-bar for my new 60" LG...

5 out of 5 eggsThis sound bar rocks!

Pros: No wiring to back of room, easy to place sub-woofer (on the ground wedged to the right of the electronics cabinet and the wall). Sound bar same length as TV (42" Phillips) so a nice match-up, also same color. Nice looking.
Flexible connections. No need to mount sound bar as it rests unaided on top of electronics cabinet above the TV.
No need to turn on the system as it wakes from standby (panel display off) mode and becomes active automatically in response to signal from a connected unit. System functions as a device concentrator and then only one HDMI cable goes from it to the HD TV. I would go into "Gui menu", "Settings" and in "HDMI" set "Video Direct" to "ON" so as to pass the HD video signals directly to your HD TV rather than through the systems video processor first. I did not detect much of a difference of anything but I would rather my HD TV get the benefit of direct connection to the device. Not available for non-HDMI connected devices. These get up-converted.

Cons: Remote does not control other than Sony devices so I suffer from remote clutter (have only one Sony PS3 otherwise, and so I apparently cannot take advantage of Bravia Sync, or Phillips EasyLink for that matter).
Unit does not return to standby on ts own when all connected devices are switched off - have to specifically turn off (counter-intuitive since it comes out of standby in response to a connected device being switched on), takes a few seconds to warm up to full sound coming out of standby but that is ok. Sony manual needs better organization - has to search for what I wanted - not clear for example that I could just rest the sound bar on a flat surface unmounted. Did show it in the installation diagram but no words spoke to that fact, only to mounting on a wall, or a Sony TV using the supplied extension bracket. Much wasted time trying to figure that out and other things about the unit.

Other Thoughts: Let me tell you a story to finish off - my wife it was who wanted "a sound" in the house but I did the research, settling on this unit. She and my son were disappointed as they were looking to see a visible "surround sound" with many speakers. Explanations about the basement not designed with a home theater setup in mind did not go well. They had visited neighbor's setup with wireless speakers on top of tables and "it sounded good". I offered to send the unit back and for them to take responsibility for getting the unit they wanted and she pay the bill. Well she declined and that was that so the unit stays. One day my son started playing his "Armored Core4" game on the PS3 in full HD and it made such a reverberating sound throughout the house that mother had to go down and ask him to turn it down. It was at that moment she became impressed with the unit. My son now loves it. Impressive indeed is all I need to say further about this SONY HT-CT500 3.1 Home Theater system.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat system for a small-ish media room

Pros: * Simple concept and simple to setup.
* The price was right given my needs (small-ish media room).
* Has enough HDMI inputs (3) for me.
* Generally, well-balanced and good-quality sound from the bar and the sub-woofer.

Cons: Not much of a con: Occasionally, voices sound significantly lower in volume than than sound effects and music (E.g. TV show "Fringe"). However, it might be the broadcasting or it might be me [(:]. In any case, it is not a big deal to me.

Other Thoughts: If you are an audiophile, this system is probably not for you. I understand because I feel that way about computers (I'd never buy a plug-in-and-go PC). I simply wanted something that was high quality and within a reasonable budget for me.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat System for small spaces

Pros: Great sound, easy to setup. My room is 25*15 and the bar + Sub Woofer fill the space perfectly, with plenty of power to spare. The provided bravia extension stand is nice and easy to install.

Cons: NO composite audio input
