5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: After reading the reviews setup and connection to network took only a few minutes. Netflix setup easy and playback is better than my computer. Played with slacker seems to be worthwhile. It played a Ridata bluray disc, and it was great quality. Much better than my LG burner in my computer that I stream to my tv with a DVI connection.

Cons: No HDMI cable, but it did not list as accessory

Other Thoughts: My first bluray stand alone, and it has exceeded my expectations.

2 out of 5 eggsPlease ship discreetly

Pros: Arrived quickly and intact. Haven't hooked it up yet, but see cons.

Cons: Newegg usually ships discreetly in a plain brown box. This time they threw a UPS label on the retail Sony box, for the first time in my experience. It was left on my doorstep. I live in a townhouse in a major city - thank goodness a home contractor was there to discover and bring it inside. This wasn't UPS's fault - it left Newegg in the retail box. I will buy from Newegg again, but from now on I guess I will ship to the office.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

Pros: Very easy to use, fast load times, and great picture. Netflix. I have had zero issues with this unit and the picture is wonderful.

Cons: No Pandora, hence minus 1 egg (but i knew that going in to the purchase)

Other Thoughts: I found that the internet/network setup was painless and works well. YMMV.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Netflix Streaming

Pros: Easy Setup of network, Netflix Streaming works great as well as other channels available. Pretty sure having cable internet makes a big difference.

Cons: Bought this to go along with a 46" Toshiba Regza LCD television, which unfortunately was defective and I threw out the box as it was the size of my refrigerator not expecting to possibly have to return it. DO NOT THROW OUT ANY PRODUCT BOXES if you buy from Newegg...they will NOT take ANYTHING back unless it comes in the original box. Whether the item is defective and you want a replacement or not.

Other Thoughts: Not sure if this will impact my future shoppin experience with Newegg or not, I guess that will depend on whether or not Toshiba will bail them out of this mess.

2 out of 5 eggsPoor implementation

Pros: Fast blu-ray load times, network configuration easy, Netflix access and Amaz*n. Menus are fairly easy to navigate.

Cons: YouTube playlists are limited to 6 entries confirmed by Sony online support. Freezes constantly with online content and is not related to the network connection itself. DVD discs constantly cause a black out effect on TV with multiple discs. DVD upscaling not as good as my old Panasonic DMP-BD35.

Other Thoughts: Specifically I was looking for playlist playback functionality which is poor and Netflix. It turns out the Amaz*n movies were MUCH better quality and Netflix was mediocre. The freezing was too much and the unit was returned. I would wait for the release of the next generation BluRay units. Very disappointing.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Blu-ray player!

Pros: This player has all the bells and whistles anyone would need, plays blu-rays great, DVDs with upconvertings look excellent, the online contant was much richer than I thought and with a wired connection, the streaming is good, no hicupps...

Cons: None that I can think of

Other Thoughts: good price and very fast start up times....

3 out of 5 eggsSomewhat Disappointed

Pros: Easy setup
Excellent blu-ray playback
Good-looking, easy-to-use user interface
Robust selection of internet content providers
Great streaming of standard definition (SD) Netflix content

Cons: Extremely poor streaming of HD Netflix content. I've contacted technical support for the product -- they've narrowed it down to a firmware issue (a solution for which is in the works, but with no ETA). Unfortunately, even though SD content experiences none of these problems, you are forced to watch the HD version of a Netflix selection if it's available. I'm considering just bypassing the player altogether with an HDMI cable going straight from my PC to my TV.

Other Thoughts: I have to give the player three stars because it does such a bad job with Netflix, which was the overwhelming reason I purchased the product. If I knew it was going to be such a hassle, I probably wouldn't have made this purchase.

5 out of 5 eggsSo Easy

Pros: So easy to use and set up. I have compared to other Blu rays in that price range and nothing comes close. Newegg sent it so fast. There are so many free sites with music and movies, along with pay sites naturally. Newegg, had the cheapest price, free shipping, and fastest shipping.

Cons: Netflix set up isnt as easy as I thought. For newbies to blu ray I did not know I needed to buy an HDMI cord and a switcher to use it with my Direct TV.

4 out of 5 eggsVery nice, especially for the price

Pros: The setup was really pretty straightforward, and the video quality is great. As other reviewers have said, the number of streaming options isn't actually that big a deal because the content available through most of them is pretty uninspiring, but Netflix and Youtube streaming is of very good quality. While you'll have to add content to your instant Netflix queue via your computer, Youtube is searchable onscreen (though be aware it's as annoying as texting on a phone can be). Also be aware that the manual doesn't fully inform you with respect to the things you'll have to do to enable your Netflix connection. You'll need to retrieve a code from the disc player's setup process (write this sucker down!!) and then input the code on your Netflix account via your computer, but it worked very well for me. Since I use a wired setup I can't speak to any wireless setup issues, but the wired setup was seamless.

Cons: Like others have said, the remote is pretty basic, and it's a bit more chintzy than the remote that came with my less-advanced basic Sony DVD player, but it does what it needs to do. No disc eject on the remote, but that's a pretty overrated functionality. Oh, and as another reviewer noted, there's a tendency for the unit to get itself into a loop when it has problems connecting with a streaming channel. Perhaps another firmware upgrade is in order, but in the meantime you can just shut the thing off and restart it.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Blu-Ray player

Pros: Huge variety of options in terms of video, audio, and internet playback. Internet channels include NetFlix, YouTube, Blip, Movies on Demand, etc. I coupled this Blu-Ray player with a 40" Samsung LCD HDTV and am totally satisfied. The player updates its firmware easily and is generally low maintenance.

Cons: The load time is a little slow, but that's to be expected with most Blu-Ray players.

Other Thoughts: Be aware that certain cable companies throttle connections that stream lots of content through NetFlix. Sometimes it streams seamlessly in HD, other times there are a lot of "buffering" waits. It's the ISP, not your player.
