1 out of 5 eggsCrapped out in one year

Pros: Nice features and price

Cons: After one year starting humming, buzzing, vibrating and getting fuzzy picture. Had wired through the wall and it's going to be a pain in the yin yang to replace since you can't unplug the power cord from the back of the Blu Ray player. I believe warranty just expired a couple months ago. Isn't this how it always happens?

2 out of 5 eggsSony BDP-S480

Pros: Good price, nice picture when it is working.

Cons: Lasted for one week then would not read discs. Tried a number of Blueray, DVD, 3D, nothing would work. Returned it to Sony at a cost of 20 bucks and got a reconditioned unit after a week and a half.

Other Thoughts: This was a Christmas gift and was in use for about a week before it stopped working. I had a hard time deciding on number of eggs to give because it worked great when it worked. Very nice picture on my 55" LG 3D set. But really, a week old and I get a reconditioned unit under warranty? This is not the Sony quality and service I have come to expect. I will look at other brands next time I buy.

3 out of 5 eggsusererror

Pros: Everything I had said in my previous review minus Netflix.

Cons: I just started using Netflix on it to actually watch videos. The Netflix streaming is horrible. It stops and has to download again. If I use my Wii Netflix streaming works fine. Have not yet contacted Sony Support, but this is with a wired LAN connection and it is not working. Wii is wifi and works fine. It's not my network or ISP.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat value

Pros: Good user interface.

Easy to set up.

Sleek design for those who need aesthetics.

Picture quality was better than my older Samsung that got 'jammed' Lone Star style by my son, even though I preferred the design of that machine.

Watched Watchmen last night and it was flawless.

Cons: The audio seemed a little low compared to other inputs on my TV. This may be an error on my part with set up.

Other Thoughts: If you can pick this up on the half price deal I got you can't complain.

It surprised me that this is my first non-pc component Sony product, looking forward to seeing how it really is worth the price they put on them; even if I didn't pay it!

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic!

Pros: Auto-found my Windows Shares off of my MythTV Backend. Plays the mp3s, and most of the videos on those shares. I also bought this model because it had a LAN connection. I do not use Wifi. The setup was easy, Netflix works. Could works a cheap, low power consumption MythTV frontend.

Cons: The IR receiver on the front face is not an ideal position for my entertainment center unit. It needs to be almost dead on when using the remote.

Other Thoughts: Sony's menu format annoys me, but that's my opinion.

Pros: WORKS GREAT,NICE APPS,HOOKS UP TO MY NETWORK & INTERNET VERY EASILY,I've had this unit for about 6 months without any problems (NO FREEZING WHAT SO EVER) Oh it plays disc (CD,DVD & Blu-rays) GREAT! even the ones I burnt myself from computers using Win Vista & Win 7

Cons: I tried wifi with this & other units & unless your router is within 10 - 15 feet it will reload a few times during a movie, that's why I didn't get the BUILT-IN wifi,I got wifi READY. People that try WIFI (like I did) end up going on e b a y to buy a ethernet cable I got a 50' for 7.99 free shipping.
SO SAVE YOURSELF from a headache & buy a cable & forget that wifi idea, you will save $$$ too cause built in wifi players cost more $$$

Other Thoughts: Got to love them guys that say their tech level is high or very high but do NOT know the difference between BUILT-IN & READY &&& sometimes do a review on a item they don't own or have a different model than the one their reviewing.

3 out of 5 eggsWon't use other brand Wi-Fi Adapter

Pros: Great picture. The YouTube feature (when hard wired in) works great.

Cons: 2 Major Problems:

Sony Support says it will only accept the Sony UWA-BR100 USB wireless adapter for $79.99. You will not be able to use your own or another mfg. wireless adapter even though they claim it is a 802.11x standard.

Only get HD video out from HDMI cable and not Component Video cable - Component out is only 480

5 out of 5 eggsIf you can read, it's a great player

Pros: Easy menu system, pretty quick BD playback, hasn't frozen on us yet, nice Netflix implementation. Reasonable price for a unit that isn't ugly and gets the job done with a minimum amount of fuss.

We've had it for a few months now and it gets used nightly for Netflix. Works great! So much better than a competitor's unit we had to take back because the Netflix implementation froze constantly.

Cons: Is unable to speak. It's a shame really because apparently some people are too dumb to understand that (just like every other device) if it says "wireless ready", it means that it's not built in and you will most likely have to buy an overpriced specific adapter to add it. If you need wireless, use a brain cell and spend the extra $25 (or whatever) to get a unit with built in wireless.

And really, 3 people gave it 1 egg because they were careless readers?!?! That's scary.
Though I guess it just means more units to buy for those of us who know how to process information.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Blu-ray and a good price

Pros: Great blu-ray player with no problems so far. Supports multiple formats and the streaming through the player is excellent. We have a Netflix account and it's very easy with very good playback.

Cons: My only complaint is that the drive makes a very soft whining noise when playing a CD, DVD, Blu-ray. But it seems to have reduced since we first started using it.

Other Thoughts: People really should read the packaging and information. It's very clear that this player does not include wifi. If you're streaming through the player it would be better to use the wired interface anyway.

5 out of 5 eggsReal Review

Pros: The person who has written 3 negative reviews lacks tech knowledge. With any research one would know that Wifi-Ready means its capable of Wifi. That does not mean it has built in Wifi. The price point would also indicate that it does not come with built in wifi.

Cons: The lack of quality reviews on this product.

Other Thoughts: Don't write a review with bad information when I did my research I asked if you could use other wifi adapters with this device in multiple stores. This goes for all manufacturers so don't just beat up one as it is the industry standard. You tried to take a cheap shortcut without much research and info to back up your purchase. Don't blame the product. Newegg please ban that loser from writing reviews as they are not helpful to anyone.
