5 out of 5 eggsBest Bluray player that I have owned!

Pros: This thing is amazing, and has not had any issues in the almost 2 years that I've owned it. We went through 4 cheaper Bluray players from Samsung and Visio in 2 years prior to buying this Sony, due to them stopping to function after 6 months or so. The Sony has held up well, and never hung up or rebooted. I prefer to use our Roku for streaming, but the built-in apps for Netflix/etc on this Sony BD player are much faster and higher quality streams than other Bluray players or Smart TVs with built-in apps that I've used.

Cons: None!!!

5 out of 5 eggsFollowup review - please read this

Pros: For anyone who expects to bitstream the blu-ray disc audio from this player, PLEASE READ THIS.

This player has an audio setting labeled "BD audio mix setting" that is set "on" from the factory. If this is set to on, the player will send PCM to your A/V receiver. If you want it to send the raw audio stream (DTS, DTS-HD, TrueHD, etc.) to the receiver, this setting must be set to "off".

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: It took me a few days of research to figure out the above, so hopefully this will save some time for somebody.

5 out of 5 eggs3D works great; online services nice too

Pros: plays 3D blu-ray disc; lots of online services; wi-fi built-in

Cons: none so far

Other Thoughts: I was surprised that this player is able to display 3D content from online services, including movie trailers. Watched the trailer for 3D Toy Story 3 and it looked amazing.

So far I haven't been able to get DTS-HD to play on my AVR; it only plays the DTS stream. I didn't even get DTS until I used the optical audio connection; before that (using HDMI for audio), the AVR just said it was receiving PCM. I need to play with the settings some more and figure out how to get DTS-HD

1 out of 5 eggsNon-Refundable!

Pros: None

Cons: The menus and operation of this device overall is very slow. It is equivalent to using a 10 year old computer with a new operating system.

Other Thoughts: It is my fault for not reading closely, but refurbished items are non-refundable with newegg, so I now have an $80 item that is junk from my perspective.

5 out of 5 eggsGood unit!

Pros: Performs flawlessly. Network setup literally took 2 minutes with WPS. Updated itself immediately and it has played every disc I've fed it.

Cons: it wasn't free

4 out of 5 eggsDoes the job

Pros: Does exactly what i bought it for. USB PLAYBACK OF MKV FILES. Great player, Ive heard complains of the disc loudly spinning i haven't heard this and probably wont, maybe i got one of the better refurbished ones.

Cons: Yes it does play MKV format files. but for some reason it wont play a select few of my MKV format files. Not a huge deal, but just an annoyance as the only ones that will not play are stuff i really wanted to watch on my tv without burning it out or connecting my pc back to my tv. Oh wells.

another note. I notice a slight delay when scrolling through the menus. Doesnt bother me but it might bother someone else.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat as far as refurbs go

Pros: can link it to my network so saved movies and tv shows from my PCs can be watched from the BD player. sleek, remote pairs to TV so only need 1 remote.

Cons: netflix app lacks luster of PC and other versions, and network response is slower than I like

Other Thoughts: I have not yet been able to watch 3D but looking forward to it

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Works like it should.

Cons: The case was really scratched up and shows heavy usage, I would call this heavily used and not refurbished.

5 out of 5 eggsDecent Player

Pros: I took a gamble on this one, being refurbed but all was well, plugged it in and everything worked just fine and has played dvds blu rays, 3d blu rays, streamed netflix the whole nine. Nothing jumps out and impresses me but it does work, and it seems to be pretty quick. You get what you pay for no wowser here but it does what is advertised well enough.

Cons: Idk cheap shipping?

5 out of 5 eggs"New" quality for "Used" price

Pros: Fast device boot time *
Fast disc spin up/boot time *
3D Capability
Built-in 802.11 n WiFi
DLNA
Thin design for easy component stacking
Mine came with the remote control (YMMV)
Lots of apps built-in, for those that don't have smart TVs

* Compared to my Vizio VBR100 Blu-ray player, which was annoyingly slow

Cons: Ummm... it wasn't free?

Honestly, compared to my other Blu-ray player, this thing is flawless!

Other Thoughts: Once again, New Egg pulls through. This item has been replaced by newer players and is no longer made by Sony, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great player. Fast device boot, fast disc boot, and it's played every single disc I've put in without firmware updates (which it would download over WiFi anyway) Gone are the days of searching & downloading and .ISO from Sony, burning the .ISO file to disc and booting to the disc to update.
