2 out of 5 eggsDoes the Job

Pros: Does the job

Cons: optical connection is wonky (technically speaking)

Other Thoughts: Added 3/5/2016: When it was working it was GREAT it just didn't last so I dropped it to 2 stars. Sorry sony you used to be known for enduring quality I'm not sure when you cheaped out.

Started shutting off randomly a few times a day about a year ago and I was too lazy to rma (bought the 2 year replacement) But now both left and right sides are coming out of the right and the left is dead. I've searched online for a repair and found the service manual but before starting the repair I decided to come back here and see if it was still under warranty and YAY it's under 2 years! :D

4 out of 5 eggsNice system

Pros: Runs my system flawlessly, I have both a Computer with HDMI out and a BD player connected and it delivers nice sound a good device changing.

Cons: Can get hot when the volume is turned up fairly high.

Other Thoughts: Inexpensive 7.1 system that does a very nice job.

1 out of 5 eggsJunk

Pros: Sounded good for about a month. Low price. That's where I got suckered.

Cons: 5 days after warranty ends, it starts failing if the volume is turned up beyond 40 (out of 70). Now have to pay the price of a new one. I'm going to ask Sony if they will honor it just 5 days after warranty, but I'm guessing they won't replace it.

Other Thoughts: I have always bought Sony receivers (4th one) and they have always lived forever (only my oldest one finally tanked after 20 years. Won't get refurbished one again for sure.

4 out of 5 eggsAll went well.

Pros: It was cheap and was just what I needed for my first sound system and it works wonderfully

Cons: The only con is the missing mic for the auto calibration feature which is the only way to calibrate the receiver. I would not care so much if I could easily find a mic to use to auto calibrate it but I cannot seem to find one with the right type of connector.

Other Thoughts: I love my receiver and my 7.1 surround sound system but it is very frustrating that I cannot calibrate it because the mic for the calibrations did not come with it.

2 out of 5 eggsTerrible documentation / 1 speaker out is busted

Pros: 4 HDMI in ...2 Optical In / decent amount of presets
Works well with my Sony 3d Blu-ray surround system

Cons: Sound is noticabley worse than my little Bluray / surround combo. especially the bass. I bought it for the extra HDMI ports and now regret it. Also rear-right surround port only outputs STATIC. Of course I didn't catch this until my 30 Return Days were up ...

Other Thoughts: I wouldn't recommend buying anything over $100 that's refurbed.

3 out of 5 eggsNot the best sound

Pros: Very low price for a 7.1 receiver. HDMI pass through is a plus for those that use their TV speakers occasionally. 4 HDMI inputs for switching between gear is enough for most and eliminates the need for a few pounds of audio cable. Decent features for the cost.

Cons: Coming from a much more expensive but older Yamaha, I can honestly say I was disappointed in the output sound. I've tried every setting and three different sources and can't come close to matching the quality of sound I had with the Yamaha through my reference JBL's. For those with golden ears, you'll want to move along. This unit isn't for you. For those on a budget needing HDMI switching and upgrading from a lower end box surround sound system, you'll probably be happy. I'm not.

Other Thoughts: I contacted Sony support trying to work through some of the configuration settings as the US version doesn't have a mic to auto-tune the speakers. Their chat service was quick, the information helpful and they referred me to a more detailed set of instructions via a link that was way better than the included manual.

5 out of 5 eggsrefurbished unit

Pros: price!

Cons: all the buttons on the front panel are pretty useless if you ask me. all the functionality comes from the remote so if you lose that GG bro.

Other Thoughts: overall very good device. so many functions i cant even comprehend them all. reading the manual explains them but there are so many is crazy. im very happy with my device and it does a good job pushing my 7.2 sound system. i purchased the refurbished unit and it looked and worked like brand new

4 out of 5 eggsGreat price and quality, no upconvert

Pros: Decent features for such a low price. Power output is alright. Simple front panel. Lots of inputs and outputs. Quick response from the remove.

Cons: No upconvert of the video signal. This caused me major frustration as I was setting it up. Basically, this means that if you have an input that is from a component video cable or a standard AV Cable, that video will not get output through the HDMI output, so you have to have an extra set of cables to connect to another input port on the TV. I should have known this, so I don't blame Sony, but it is enough of an issue that I would consider spending extra dollars to get a receiver that can upconvert.

It would be nice to have an on-screen menu, but what do I expect for such a low price?

Other Thoughts: For $150, this was an Amaaaaazingly good deal. I am overall very happy with this receiver.

5 out of 5 eggsJust Awesome

Pros: It just works, if you can't follow the instructions that are provided then you really just need to Hire or find someone that has a clue!!!!

Replaced a JVC receiver that had lasted for 10 yrs and finally the Sub out just gave up

Cons: No remote Batteries included .... Not a Deal Breaker

Other Thoughts: Literally took me 10 minutes to swap out and setup for my Speaker Config .... Sony Bravia TV saw this receiver immediately and changed to it for sound
