Sony BDP-S185 Blu-Ray Disc Player

Pros: had success with another sony refurbed blu-ray player. bought this for my parents...

works. looks brand new..

small. lightweight. remote. low price

Cons: none.

Other Thoughts: i like that there is no lcd display screen showing time or date or "welcome"

Pros: Worked, but did not include batteries. condition looked not so good... Delivered fast from Newegg.

Cons: Worked, but had a big scratch on the top and the front looks like it was cleaned with sandpaper. Sadly, I expected better from a Sony refurb. It does work so far... guess time will tell...

Other Thoughts: Maybe I got the ugly duckling....

Pros: USB Port playing many formats with no problems - NetFlix Streaming working Great - Easy Interface for 'non-tech' family members (I only had to train them once).

Not much use on BD Player itself - using more for streaming and USB Playback

Cons: None Really.

Other Thoughts: Using with PowerLine Adapter and not having any problems streaming Netflix at all.

Pros: I was surprised by all the online apps included with the BDP 185.
Runs BD live with non Sony USB flash drive!

Cons: All most too small and no status display on the front of the player.

Pros: Have tried Blu-ray, DVD-R and Netflix streaming. All work fine. DVD up-converting looks sharp.

Cons: A bit difficult to change the settings so that a 4:3 dvd doesn't get stretched.

Other Thoughts: Seems like a good low-cost option for Blu-ray capability and (non-Wifi) streaming. No regrets so far with a refurbished item.

Pros: Lots of great features for a DVD player. Nice compact size. Easy to hookup.

Cons: Remote doesn't work out of box. About 1/3 of the keys on the remote work. You can tell by pressing keys while viewing on your computer, iPad, iPhone or any other camera.

Other Thoughts: Well shall see how hard it is going to be to replace the remote.

Pros: Fast loading, great price

Cons: Stay away. Sorry 'bout that, this player has the Cinavia virus.

Pros: I wrote the other review but am updating and adding a warning

Cons: Cinavia™ content protection technology, quite simply you can not backup your own DVD's or Blu-rays. Sony thinks this is advantageous and they actually list this as a benefit for their customers to update their Disc Player firmware.

Other Thoughts: now totally disappointed, i will be selling this at the next garage sale.
I wish Sony would answer how preventing me from backing up my own DVD's Blu-ray's is beneficial for me. the only thing Cinavia™ content protection technology dose is keep Sony's corporate greed and avarice.

Pros: Price, compact size, for a refurbished looks brand new. very quick boot up time, Plays commercial Blu-ray,DVD. plays non commercial self made Blu-ray, DVD's. HDMI output, digital audio output

Cons: 1 Although it recognizes data blu-ray, and dvd's but I as of yet see it play video files on the disk despite being listed as capable of playing those file format mkv files so now i have to try and convert to another format. also dose not play avi's but there not listed..
2 no component output, only hdmi and yellow video outputs, so that may limit some.
3 Menu system is somewhat quirky, but could be more of a learn curve.
4 no zoom feature on remote or in setup while not a con for a lot of people i like to see full screen, my TV has a zoom feature but it's buried in the menu set up so it's a pain.

Other Thoughts: despite its quirkiness I would recommend it. but really hoping to find a file format that it will play from a data blu-ray,dvd. have not tried the usb feature. with the controls on the top if you bury it in a shelf under or near your tv you may have problem if you cant find the remote.
