5 out of 5 eggsSo far so good

Pros: A $40 blu-ray player that works much better than my old $175 blu-ray player. Has played every disc I've given it with no problems.

I don't have it hooked up to the Internet, so I can't speak for the streaming features. When I got it, I updated the firmware by burning the upgrade to a DVD on my PC, then putting the disc in the player. It was easy and worked just fine.

Cons: It's worth noting that this player cannot connect to wi-fi, it only offers a wired Internet connection. And the hookups are pretty bare-bones, HDMI and coaxial audio only. As long as you're OK with this, it works just fine.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Player!!

Pros: Fast
Great Price ($39.99 Refurbished)

Cons: No WiFi

Other Thoughts: I saw some other reviews that were negative about this product. I've been very pleased in the couple weeks that I've had it. Before this purchase I bout a $65 one of these from a big box store and it was not close to the performance of this Sony. I would certainly recommend this and plan to buy another in the near future. Wifi would have been nice for convenience but wired is faster and more reliable anyways. Well worth it for the price.

5 out of 5 eggsCan't beat the price

Pros: Streams A & N in HD with using the standard interfaces like all other products.
Small in size, and simple to set up

Cons: Haven't found any yet

Other Thoughts: For $39.00 dollars for a recently released BD players in 2013 actually released around October and November by Sony one cannot go wrong for picking this up. Just note you get only a 30 day warranty from Sony not 90 for which there is a warranty card by Sony in the box stating the above.

If your having issue with other streaming devices not streaming feeds in HD you cannot go wrong in picking this up and trying it. I bought this BD Player to stream A and N in HD since my WD refused to stream anything back in HD from Netflix. (My Roku 2) had no issue which is was connected in the bedroom. So I bought this unit and straight out of the box after two updates from Sony the unit streamed both A, and Netflix in HD with out any lag or issues. This unit even shows the internet connection speed before loading the feed for which I was getting high speeds using TWC. (I know TWC tends to have issues with Netflix)

Being a Sony & Samsung user I would recommend picking this up for refurbish price of $39 dollars before there sold out.

4 out of 5 eggsso far so good

Pros: Cheap, loads bluray faster than my also cheap LG (bought from another store on thanksgiving). I have not used it for other than blurays and USB movies. User interface is similar to the PS3.

Cons: it doesn't have a front display and you need to get closer to know if it is On which is not a big deal but for that I removed and egg. I am not sure it was worth it but I bought the extended warranty which was really cheap and I still paid a low price . No Wifi and no 3D but that was expected for the price.

3 out of 5 eggsNewEgg product overview misleading, customer service not helpful

Pros: For the player: it seems good, meaning it functions as advertised. Mine came with only a few scuffs that were purely cosmetic. It looks nearly new. I've only powered it on once, so will update the review if it breaks down prematurely.

Cons: The problem I have with this purchase is NewEgg's misleading description. For starters, this is not manufacturer refurbished by Sony (to be fair, newegg doesn't explicitly state that it is, though it seems implied). It comes in a generic box with a generic THIRTY day warranty card from some 3rd-party vendor. The NewEgg product page has an "Sony Retailer Network" badge that gives the impression this might be manufacturer refurbished from Sony, but it's not.

What's more disappointing, however, is the PDF photo of the warranty card that's supposedly included in the box. This is on the main product page, down towards the bottom. It shows a 1 year warranty from Sony. Having this on the first page of the product implies this is what you're getting, especially since a photo of this "included content" is provided. When I contacted Newegg, I was told the product overview page describes the brand new product, even though the page is for the refurbished unit. Therefore, none of the warranty or items included information on that page applies to the refurbished unit that's being sold on that page. Again, a bit misleading.

I was told I'd have to check the specifications tab to get the correct information, which I did after purchasing and receiving the unit and contacting Newegg about the warranty discrepancy. The specifications tab says 90 days warranty, and even that information is incorrect, as my unit came with only 30 days.

The other items that came with the unit were a remote (no batteries) and a user manual. The product page on NewEgg indicated batteries were included - NewEgg says the product page doesn't apply to refurbished items, even though it's the product page for this refurbished item.

Other Thoughts: I think the right thing to do would be for NewEgg to correct the product overview page to be more transparent and accurate about what you're getting.

This is a third-party, seller-refurbished unit that comes in a generic box with a 30 day warranty. You could not tell this from the product page on NewEgg, so had no way to accurately know what you were getting.

Had I known that, I would have bought it for less from another vendor who had it for a lower price. If NewEgg wanted to make it right, they should provide one of their $6 extended warranty plans gratis for the misleading information, but they refused to do that, essentially saying "tough luck." I hope they at least correct the information on their page, but they didn't seem interested in addressing that either.

Hopefully my experience is informative to potential buyers.
