Yamaha’s professional experience with sound comes home for your newly digital life! What you need to do is hear it for yourself!
Tech Level: average - Ownership: 1 week to 1 month
Pros: Inexpensive, smallish form factor (important for entertainment centers that do not offer much in the way of height for shelves)
Cons: No audio pass-through on HDMI, bizarre wonkiness from Logitech 880 remotes (especially when using the volume buttons)
Other Thoughts: I owned this receiver for just over a month and I loved it. It did everything I needed it to do - HD digital cable box and Xbox 360. I had all components connected via HDMI to the the TV and then SPDIF cables connected from the components to the receiver. It did everything I needed it to do until I bought a Blu-Ray player.
If you want DTS-HD and Dolby True-HD blaring through your sound system, only an HDMI cable can carry the signal. Since this unit does not do HDMI audio pass-through, you will need to upgrade. But I was so impressed with the Yamaha, that I upgraded to the RX-V465 (next model up.) Everything works like a charm. Had to re-route all my components through the receiver via HDMI (instead of the TV) and now my living room rocks when it comes time for Blu-Ray movie night.
If you have no plans to do Blu-Ray, or you do want Blu-Ray but you don't care about DTS-HD and Dolby True-HD, then this receiver is perfect.

Good but beware

Pros: Purchased as part of the Black Friday combo deal at a competitive price, fast shipping, multitude of inputs
Cons: Beware - I read the specifications online and saw that the new models support HDMI 1.3, however I think the receivers sold in the combo are older models and only support HDMI 1.0. Took a couple hours of researching to discover the problem

Incredible for a budget receiver

Pros: Great receiver. I've been looking for a deal on a budget receiver for the bedroom for about 6 months now and at $159 I had to bite. Crisp, clean sound and an incredible feature set. In a small room this thing gets LOUD. Right now I'm only running this with a pair of Monitor 30s for fronts and a PSW10 sub. I'm not even sure if I will get the center channel and rears as I'm completely satisfied with the current sound.
Cons: - no audio through HDMI
BUT if you're an educated consumer and research what you're buying you would know this in advance. It really aggravates me to see negative reviews on this for the above reason simply because people don't take the time to research what they're buying. For my setup, 360, PS3, PC, and Satellite box are hooked up to my LCD via HDMI with a digital audio cable feeding into the receiver from TV so this isn't a con for me and as stated previously, I knew there was not HDMI audio before I purchased.

Pros: I think the rx-v365 is awsome for the price. Read other reviews and got real nervous about some issues like having a hard time with the remote, general set up difficulties and a hard to understand manual. Not at all true, just take your time, read the manual carefully and you'll get it in no time. As for no HDMI pass through, If your looking for a no frills way to hear great 5.1 surround, this is the ticket. Uprade if you want any more than that. For me it's perfect. Really worth the money. Newegg got the thing shipped ultra fast. Definitely not my last purchace from them.
Cons: Once in a while the volume down on the remote turns the thing up.
Other Thoughts: This things worth the money. Repaced a old kenwood unit that gave up after 10 years. I really like the Yamaha much better.

Satisfied, esp. for the price

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Bought from NewEgg during special pricing, so excellent value! Sounds great. If all you need is a 5.1 receiver that's solid, well designed at a good price, this is the only one I found that meets my need. My old failing Kenwood is out, and what a relief to finally be able to connect everything optimally. Some of the "enhance'ing audio modes are actually useful, not just gimmicky. Not surprised that's it's listed as "sold out" today.
Cons: Many display elements are way too tiny to read, for an A/V receiver that's usually far away. Setup menus can be perplexing, esp. setting up inputs. Search for and download info, which is not inc. in oper. manual. Comcast cable remote does not have a setup code for this receiver, digital cable now HD cable remotes. Sigh, still stuck having several remotes to control everything. Guess I'll have to find that one perfect universal remote.
Other Thoughts: HDMI audio passthru lacking is not a problem, since I don't use my displays' speakers at all. It seems to be a bizarre design choice, but it's workable for many setups. I use HDMI for video input to receiver, HDMI as video output, and optical audio in from sources and I'm fine.

Home Theater Receiver RX-V365

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Very simple to use. Has 4 large buttons in front that can be Pre-set to go strait to the device of your choice. (Also it remembers the settings you select for these inputs) Front Mini Jack for your Ipod, Zune or other Mp3 Player
Cons: No rear 120 volt outlet to power on other devices Only a Mono output for Sub-woofer (But does a great Job)
Other Thoughts: I bought this unit for my basement TV. Its a 42inch plasma with 5 speaker surround and Bass. For the Price this unit has a lot to offer. It will give you enough power to run a full surround sound 5 speaker system with a powered sub-woofer. If you are looking for a cheap and simple unit that still has a Brand name, this is the one. I like it more than my $800 Yamaha unit on my main TV.
