This Yamaha Home Theater Surround Sound System brings HDMI home, and a 600W speaker system will fill your media room with rich, life-like sound. With state of the art decoding like Dolby Pro-Logic II on board, you get options like Dolby bass management, and Width, Dimension, and Panorama controls to offer a bold, unparalleled experience from your music and movies.
Yamaha's Cinema DSP technology builds on the receiver's full-featured decoding to generate independent sound fields from each of the 6 home theater speakers, so the music, sound effects, and voices will seem to come from around your room as the director or artist intended, for the most realistic sound. Silent Cinema even gives you surround sound through your headphones!
You can adjust your settings for listening or watching, or playing almost anything, thanks to Yamaha's Scene controls. 4 hot buttons set up your most-used scenes, and you can browse through the rest using the input knob. Once you select a scene, the receiver automatically starts the component associated with the profile you chose, and adjusts itself for optimal output. This full-featured nerve center gives you brilliant performance and simple operation from all your audio and video components, at an affordable price!

Awesome !
- Pros: Ok, I've been an audio nut for years, owning everything from Infinity, to Bose and I can say with all honesty that for the 'price' you simply cannot go wrong with this system. Yeah...you can pay a LOT more for sound that is marginally better, but for this type of an inexpensive investment to get this type of sound you just can't go wrong. In someways, I believe this system even trounces a family members $2500.00 current Bose system...something I would not have even remotely considered until hearing this Yamaha system in my home.
- Cons: ZILCH, NADA, NOTHING.
Yamaha
- Pros: Works well, I am running it with a windows 7 media center and get pretty good audio quality from the speakers. I was impressed with how clean the audio was. I really appreciate the fact that the system is comprised of actual stereo components which will make it easier for future upgrades unlike most all in one setups.
- Cons: A B speaker switch setting was easily overlooked and made the speakers sound funny till i found it.
- Other Thoughts: Works well. I have used higher end Harmon kardon systems but they were considerably more expensive. This unit comes across as a fairly well rounded setup for most basic home theater configurations. I like the fact it will allow me to move to hdmi later on.

Not bad for the price, but I found a lot of technical cons
- Pros: Once I got through all the cons, it has great sound. I didn't have to use the speaker mounts and point the speakers towards the audience, just mounting them flat on the wall they sound great.
- Cons: Connecting devices to the HDMI inputs only brings in the video, will completely ignore the sound, so you will need additional cables to the sound inputs. I've got a cable box and a PS3, so would have been nice to only use three HDMI cables (one from each device to the HT and then one to the TV) but instead I had to buy a lot more cables to make it work.
There is an HDMI input for DVD and Cable, but the optical audio inputs only exist for the Cable box and CD player, for DVD sound you have to use a coaxal connection.
While using the HDMI cable from the PS3 to the TV and then connecting an optical cable from the TV to the HT box didn't work too well either. I was watching A Bugs Life Blu-Ray and some characters voices were muted. I enabled ALL possible audio options on the PS3 HDMI audio output to no avail. I don't know if this was an issue with the TV, PS3 or the HT, but once I connected the optical cable directly from the PS3 to the HT box, all voices were heard.
- Other Thoughts: More Cons (since Newegg only allows 1,000 characters):
Came with very cheap low gauge wire, probably not enough wire to use in my setup. Good thing I had my own wire.
The screw holes on the back of the speakers for speaker mounts were too large for the screws that came with the speaker mounts I bought seperately.
Could not control the Tuner features from the remote, have to use the buttons on the front of the box. Make sure you turn the volume way down before switching from a DVD to the Tuner, as the Tuner is WAY louder.
Wow
- Pros: Amazing sound, affordable
- Cons: Cheap wiring, instruction manual not clear on certain things.
- Other Thoughts: I have to run the sound at -16 decibel just so I don't rock the entire apartment and -32 decibel at night so I don't wake others in the building so the sound on this thing is incredible for the price.
Took me awhile to activate the pro logic surround sound for my older games, they only played in PCM until I figured out you had to hit the amp button then sur. decode on remote to enable it.
All of my ps3 games and Xbox 360 games sound great(Halo 3 sounds like a war zone!) You can't go wrong with this system for the money.
pretty bad4$$
- Pros: clean sound at high volume.love how high it gets.i have it hooked up to my ps3 and when i i play blu-ray movies it is sweet.
- Cons: bass is so so,if you like rap i dont think the bass is for you.Now rock on the other hand is nice clean bass.
- Other Thoughts: I had a sony system i got from best buy years ago for like $450 and this yamaha blows it away.
