3 out of 5 eggsstay away

Pros: Works great and sounds amazing for what it is. Just so long you never change to a different input....

Cons: The amount of bug it has I wish I just got a full receive. If you change volume the screen and sound go away for about 30sec, change input and have to wait upto 15min sometime for it to be detected or some times never. The have turn it off and back on. And still no guarantee that it will even detect anything still

5 out of 5 eggsneo- not morpheus

Pros: Still works stedy, good quality too.

Cons: It's media controler, no media without video, right? Needs a tv to see, what you are controling. Remote ctrl is mediocre, takes many push buttons to achieve some simple things.

Other Thoughts: OBD is a must, yamaha understood and pulled it. But this thing is rock solid to me. New Egg got me a deal I never regret.

4 out of 5 eggsYamah neohd ymc-500

Pros: This thing sounds great compared to my old system. Easy to use interface witch my wife loves. Simple to hook up. Small size footprint.

Cons: GUI dosn't look that great but it works.

Other Thoughts: To all the people who have an xbox 360 and having issues with it dropping when trying to adjust the volume. Go into your console settings and turn off display discovery on the xbox. You may have to manulay set up your xbox but this solved the problem for me.

5 out of 5 eggsworks fine with Harmony 650

Pros: 3 HDMI inputs plus plenty of power to drive my system in a 22' x 24' room.

Sleek look and compact size.

The included mike for speaker setup worked great.

The interface could be helpful for the tech challenged.

Cons: One more HDMI input would be nice.

The interface is really not necessary for anyone with a reasonable understanding of the way the system is connected.

The IR blasters and remote are not a good solution. Much better solution below.

Other Thoughts: It is not necessary to go through the interface every time you turn on the unit. Simply go to SETUP/OPTION/INITIAL SCREEN and you have your choice. You can have it turn on displaying the interface, or the last input you were using, or a designated input. I have designated my TV input, as I use that most frequently. Whenever I turn on the system, the Yamaha displays the TV signal and not the interface.

Contrary to what many reviewers have written, this will play very nicely with a Logitech Harmony 650 remote.
No, it's not as seamless as a traditional receiver without an interface. However, the Harmony 650 allows you to program the BACK, LEFT, RIGHT and ENTER buttons from the Yamaha remote onto the assignable LCD buttons. If I want to change from TV to DVD, for example, I simply use the BACK button to call up the Yamaha interface, the LEFT or RIGHT buttons to navigate, and the ENTER button to select the DVD input. Or, just select DEVICE and the Harmony replicates the Yamaha remote.

4 out of 5 eggsgood concept, needs work

Pros: On-screen interface
Fantastic sleek look
HDMI-town
Insane deal when I bought it
Good Yamaha audio quality

Cons: On-screen interface (again). I love the old push-button analog receiver feel, and it is not present in any way here.

Still haven't figured out how to NOT use the on-screen interface, and just turn it on and get booming sound. I only use it when going through the tv anyway.

Other Thoughts: Nice of you want a real media controller, but requires too much setup for my taste.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Hooked up with LG Flatscreen, Playstation 3, Xbox360, & Dish Network HD, and everything just worked! The onscreen menu popped up, followed the set-up, and it worked like it is supposed to. The picture signal is excellent, the sound is great and much more power than I expected with 50W. Coming with the microphone, which you place where you will be seated while watching, did a great job of setting the levels....which, with my old Sony receiver, you had to do manually and never really got it right.

Cons: The remote is a little hard to figure out how to move from device to device, but I am getting the hang of it.

Other Thoughts: Great home theater sound on a budget!

4 out of 5 eggsGreat deal for $99!

Pros: Fairly straightforward setup for me - cable via TiVo and Samsung BluRay inputs; output to Sharp Aquos. Ran through the setup screens without a problem and am satisfied by the auto-balancing it did for my speakers in my small condo living room. Don't mind the on-screen display at all - have used a TiVo for over 5 years so I've come to prefer that mode. Remote took a bit of getting use to, but I use it more than 95% of time after a month of use. The soft-controls work great for all my electronics. Like that it works fine with 6 ohm speakers. Best thing for me is that the unit is small and runs very cool - no huge power-sucking, heat-generating power supply!

Cons: Occasionally, the sound from the TiVo won't re-sync after fast-forward/backward. But no big deal, usually go back a bit and it re-syncs just fine.

1 out of 5 eggsSerious Bugs

Pros: At face value, this appeared to be exactly what I needed. I have a ceiling-mounted projector some distance away from my devices. I needed device that could handle several HDMI inputs with sound in an easy way. I have an HD cable box, an XBOX 360 and a Bluray player which all use 1080p HDMI.

Cons: The bugs started appearing immediately upon installation. First, it has resolution problems with the selection user interface it presents on startup. Upon starting up it tries to display in extremely low 480 resolution. This results in only a small part of the interface being able to be seen. Then it rapidly flashes back and forth between 480 and 720 for up to minutes before finally settling on 720. Even then the display is blocky and jagged. Also, when any adjustment is made to the volume whether on the unit or via remote, the entire screen blanks out and sound is lost for up to 30 seconds. The inconvenience and frustration this particular bug causes is huge to say the least. I could go on here, but my wife is yelling from the other room that there's a problem again with the stupid Yamaha switcher I bought <sigh>.

1 out of 5 eggsIncredibly Buggy

Pros: It represents exactly what I needed. I have a ceiling-mounted projector which is 15 ft away from my devices and it only has 2 HDMI inputs. I have HD Cable Box, XBOX 360 and Bluray Player which all use HMDI.

3 out of 5 eggsNice receiver for less than $100

Pros: This is a pretty good deal at $99.99 and it looks like I may have gotten one of the last ones. I like that I can get rid of all of my remotes for a single one. But I will still have to use the TV remote to watch over the air programming (there may be a way around this but I haven't figured it out yet). I have read complaints about the volume not being loud enough but I haven't found that to be the case. It's much louder than my old Sony HT unit that it is replacing. At half of its maximum volume it is too loud for me.

Cons: There are a few issues.
There was no profile for a Roku XD box but I was able to program the Yamaha remote to function pretty much the same as the Roku one.
Also there was no profile for my Dynex TV. After a little research online I discovered that the Emerson profiles will work for my TV.
The biggest issue, that has since become a non-issue, was trying to get my XBOX 360 to work. Every time I selected its HDMI input the TV would lose sync. I read the review right below mine talking about HTPC syncing issues and figured out a workaround. I had to run the XBOX directly into the TV to set the video output to 1080i. I'm not happy about that but as far as I sit from the screen while playing games, the difference between 1080p and 1080i is hardly noticeable.
The setup is quite time consuming because it is not very intuitive.

Other Thoughts: I wouldn't pay retail for this unit but at the closeout price it is a pretty good deal. It does have its faults but the low price outweighs any inconvenience they may cause.
