4 out of 5 eggsGood Receiver

Pros: Lots of inputs, solid sound

Cons: Rear binding posts are those silly little push posts.
Not airplay ready

Other Thoughts: Decent receiver, would buy Yamaha again.

5 out of 5 eggsDoes the job

Pros: Finally broke down and bought a new TV (old one broke down, forcing the issue). Needed a new receiver with HDMI. This Yamaha was on sale for a great price. Over the past year, it's does all I've need it to do.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Not once have I've wished I'd bought something else.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Surround Setup

Pros: Lots of sound controls and fine tuning. Modes offer a great selection.
4 HDMI inputs - I now only have 1 connection to my Plasma TV. -1 HDMI from the Receiver.
Everything else hooks to the Yamaha.
Audio passes through.
Manual on CD was very thorough and answered my question about how to hook up my old Subwoofer.

Cons: It's rather large but not as big as most. Fit in our Ikea cabinet perfectly. Size was a shopping choice for me...

Other Thoughts: I like the display also, easy to read. I feel I got a great device here. I upgraded from an old Dolby Surround Pioneer that was about 10 years old.

2 out of 5 eggshalf % half

Pros: Excellent as a FM receiver.

Cons: Loses the connection with LG tv so often, I just cut it off and listen to te LG's speakers. Noticed that item was out of stock, and a descision to restock had not been made.

Other Thoughts: Don't bother to restock. I should have bought an Oynko as I have in the front room, but I went for a combo deal with Klipsch speakers (love them.)

1 out of 5 eggsSketchy at best

Pros: Decent price, fairly easy setup, enough HDMI inputs for anything you could need

Cons: HDMI audio doesn't port to the TV and receiver volume is intermittent (sometimes it's really loud sometimes I can barely hear all at the same volume).

Other Thoughts: I don't foresee myself getting another model from this brand. I purchased another brand receiver back in 2000 for less than $400 new and it came with the speakers and everything. It still works to this day. I just wanted to upgrade and it would appear I have failed miserably.

1 out of 5 eggsJunk Model

Pros: Not too tough to set up. Nice remote. Worked well for about 5 weeks.

Cons: HDMI input failed to pass audio from DVD. HDMI audio from cable box became intermittent and rendered the receiver useless. Somewhat annoyed that it went south just AFTER NEWEGG'S 30 DAY RETURN DEADLINE! Yamaha's warranty repair sytem is almost non-existant.

Other Thoughts: Any home theater type receiver that has HDMI issues is rubbish. There is a reason this model is so inexpensive. Not very loud for a 5X100watt amp (when it did work). The delta between each input audio levels is also annoying, but I was trying to live with it... a moot point now, obviously. DO NOT BOTHER WITH RECEIVERS < $500!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Digital Receiver for the $$

Pros: Has HDMI and Digital Audio Support
Lot's of speaker options
Price

Cons: Just what I need......Another Remote :)

Other Thoughts: Purchased this receiver because I got an Apple TV (2nd gen) and my old receiver did not support HDMI or digital audio. Hook-up went fine and I was able to play movies in surround sound. It probably has more options that I need but for the price this fit the bill.

4 out of 5 eggsgood bang for the buck

Pros: 4 HDMI inputs, 4 "scene" buttons that act as shortcuts for audio/video/dsp settings, shallower than other receivers I've owned, can balance audio levels across different inputs

Cons: spring clips for center and surround speakers, no switched power outlet

Other Thoughts: I wish this had a microphone and automatic speaker configuration like my older, non-HDMI Pioneer receiver. But this was half the price.
