5 out of 5 eggsGreat Receiver

Pros: This receiver makes audio setup a breeze. Just connect the mic and the receiver goes through the audio configuration to tune according to your theater room's individual acoustic signature. Plenty of inputs/outputs available, and fairly impressive audio processing for the presets as well. All in all, I am thoroughly satisfied. My PS3, XBox360, Blueray Player, Media PC all connect, and the receiver can even be accessed from any networked device through HTML. Multiple room configurations available, and multiple "sound zones" as well serve my theater room and back deck well.

Cons: Not really a con, but I have a purely analogue system for my phonographs, so I can't speak to the Phono line in amp, but I have no reason to believe it would be less than what you would expect from a digital receiver handling analogue inputs.

Other Thoughts: Enjoy this receiver so much, I purchased one for my brother's home theater and also my father's den.

5 out of 5 eggsWorked to make happy

Pros: The receiver was one I was looking forward to hearing. Great electronics and a nice upgrade to the other yamaha receivers I have owned

Cons: NA.

Other Thoughts: Never got. To hear it. Wherehouse shipped the wrong item. Newegg worked with me and took care of business. Made me very happy to see them go the extra mile to correct a problem

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Reciver

Pros: Dual Zone
2 HDMI outs
Network access to audio files
Looks great very clean
Sounds fantastic thanks to optimizer mic. Can set multiple seating positions
Looks like all controls can be used without remote (Previous Yamaha could not do this)
Gui is really nice easy to set up and get everything working.

Cons: Zone 2 cannot use digital inputs must be RCA's annoying as i have to have 2 different connections to my computer just for this.
Network function is dependent on media center being open on my PC. So may just as well use the PC for playback. Not everyone may have this issue and its minor.
Cannot change the background on the GUI to anything but the preselected 4 options that I personally don't much care for.

Other Thoughts: If you can afford it get the Rx-a3000 as you can watch video over the network function. Other than that I love it.

1 out of 5 eggsFaulty Unit - HDMI Out Ports Broken

Pros: Manual and quality of product seemed to be decent.

Cons: HDMI Out:

I have a Sony LCD projection TV. Model KDF-E60A20. I have tried all of the suggestions in the FAQ for this problem. The problem is intermittent. Sometimes you get a picture and sound, but most times you don’t. If you reach around to the back of the receiver and unplug the HDMI out connector and plug it back in you get picture and sound within a few seconds. Once it starts working it will work normally until you turn everything off for a while. I checked to make sure the cables were straight with no kinks, used 6ft cables, and made sure cables were inserted all the way. I was however, a bit leery about how much play (wiggle) the two HDMI out connections had. They weren’t solid like the HDMI in connectors were. To ensure the problem was not any of the cables I had just had shipped in, I went locally and bought another one. The unit did the same thing.

Other Thoughts: NewEgg's limited replacement warranty is charging me $55.01 to send the defective unit back to them to replace it! What a con. I have since emailed NewEgg asking them to take care of the shipping, as they had sent me a defective unit.

5 out of 5 eggsawsome receiver

Pros: I do not know why my review has not been posted yet. But maybe it is too soon.

In response to bugsy2's review: my FM reception is smooth as silk and with the supplied indoor antena. I did not try yet HD FM but as for FM, it is excellent. I recently upgraded firmware to the last one (rev. 3.20 I think). it came with 2.02 something. There was no improvement in FM reception. Considered excellent.
Maybe you should consider a faulty receiver and have it replaced under waranty.

Cons: See former review. I don't care if the ethernet port is only RJ-45 or it is wireless. Cable connection to the internet is always safer and usually better, trouble free than wireless. This is specially important when downloading firmware upgrades. If the download is corrupt, attempting to update with a corrupt firmware, can create havoc, with any piece of electronics which is firmware driven. Therefore wired internet is better than wireless.

Other Thoughts: I have no complaints. Excellent, sturdy well built AVR. Very pleased.

5 out of 5 eggsFabulous home-theater receiver

Pros: WOW!
Heavy, excellently built receiver, any audiophile's dream.
Lots of features and high quality components, gold plated front sockets, excellent rear outlets, etc.
Possibilities are endless.

Cons: Manual is complex and needs kind of learning curve to master
Had to print it. In it's CD form (PDF) is not easy to follow.
Menus a bit complex
I did not fid yet how to hook it to a PC monitor instead of a TV for on screen menus. Is it possible?

Other Thoughts: Still hadn't the chance to hook it to real speakers (I have a Polk Audio 5.1 speaker set). Using it still with headphones. Sound quality seems excellent, very smooth and undistorted. Excellent product at a reasonable price. This is going to replace my yr 2000 model Pioneer (VX-545?) receiver which still works in excellent condition, only that cannot keep pace with new HDMI and new HD video near 1080p upconversion.

3 out of 5 eggsHas its problems

Pros: I guess it has great sound, I'm not an audiophile. Lots of output connections, both digital and analog, on the back. Internet Pandora and "Net Radio" give access to plenty of music and hundreds of pre-defined internet radio stations.

Cons: Biggest is its lousy FM/HD reception. I bought this in large part because it adverted HD reception, but its sensitivity for FM/HD is way worse than the 35-year old Onkyo receiver it replaced (both using their indoor FM wire antenna). Apparently this is a known problem in the forums, supposedly fixed or improved some firmware updates back, but I noticed no improvement getting the latest FW.

Other gripes: it's big and runs hot, even just listening at low volume on a 5.1 setup.

Front panel layout is kinda random, typical of Japanese engineering thinking (great quality HW, mediocre human interface design).

Has an Ethernet port but no wireless! Everything has wireless these days. Had to get a wireless Ethernet bridge for it.

Other Thoughts: If I had known how bad its FM reception is, I wouldn't have got it. I was going to install an outdoor HDTV/FM antenna anyway, which I hope helps, so won't return it. Don't see how they can mess up something as old and basic as FM sensitivity.

It comes with a printed quick setup guide and the full manual on CD. You can request the full printed manual but I only learned that on a forum, after I had printed the full manual at work.

It has so many connections you can set up your Home Theater in a number of ways. I'm still trying to learn all this stuff to work with all the other gadgets, including a Logitech Revue (great device BTW).

It has its own little display panel but for most setup you use a TV setup guide, which is not real great but gets the job done.

5 out of 5 eggsAWESOME!!!!!!

Pros: this is the first time i owned a separate reciever. i owned two home theater in a box. one is a yamaha and the other is onkyo. and the RX-A1000 is awesome! its a mid-level AVR with lots of perks. especially the iphone app. i love the net radio and pandora too.

5 out of 5 eggsA Lot of Bang for the Buck

Pros: Excellent sound quality, easy to set up and use, looks great in my entertainment center, awesome features for the price.

I Love the onscreen GUI and volume control overlay. It was a cinch to hook this up to my Plasm TV, HTPC< DVR and PS3. I love the simplicity of just playing pandora over the reciever.

The pass through for sound from all the inputs is awesome. I can easily loop movies on my HTPC at night with the sound going directly to the TV.

Cons: There really are no cons to speak of. I guess one minor nit might be the fact that I don't see a way to order Pandora stations alphabetically like I can on the internet UI for Pandora, but that is really a very minor inconvenience.

Other Thoughts: This unit is a million times better than my previous unit that I paid considerably more for. So as not to bad mouth the other brand, it will remain unnamed, suffice it to say the brand name rhymes with lenon.

My previous resiver never sounded nearly as good, was way more difficult to configure and use and dies after just two years of not very hard use.
