The YAMAHA AVENTAGE line of high-performance AV receivers represents a dramatic, inspired leap forward in audio/video component design. AVENTAGE brings studio grade sound and sophisticated video enhancements to your home with unparalleled attention to detail in design, engineering, and fabrication. Every electrical path, every part, every piece, is rethought and redesigned if necessary to achieve total performance excellence. Materials are tested thoroughly, and the finest are selected to maximize performance. Details that at first glance would not seem to affect the quality of sight, sound and control, are brought together in AVENTAGE components, and in the end produced a work of visual and acoustic art.

The RX-A710 AVENTAGE AV Receiver features networking capabilities, DLNA 1.5 and Windows 7 certification for countless hours of music streaming enjoyment, iPhone App compatibility, 6-HDMI inputs (one on front panel) and 1-HDMI output with 3D and Audio Return Channel, front panel USB direct digital connection for iPhone/iPod, on-screen GUI, HD Audio decoding with Cinema DSP 3D surround with or without Front Presence Speakers, YPAO and SCENE buttons.

  • newegg Network Functions This AV receiver provides a variety of network functions that enable you to access more sources and also enhance operation. You can connect the receiver to a PC to enjoy Internet Radio, Pandora, Rhapsody, Sirius XM and Napster, and use a Web Browser Control. The AV Controller app lets you control various functions from your iPhone or iPad, etc.
  • newegg AV Controller App for Easy, Convenient Operation The AVENTAGE AV Receivers let you use the Yamaha AV Controller app, a free download from the iTunes App Store to control power on/off and volume, select input and DSP modes and operate other functions from an iPhone, iPad and other devices. An Android app will also be available for maximum compatibility.
  • newegg YPAO Sound Optimization with Multi-Point Measurement YPAO analyzes the room acoustics and adjusts various audio parameters for optimum sound from your listening position, and lets you set up to eight positions. It’s like having a professional installer calibrate your system.
  • newegg SCENE for One-Touch Start The Four SCENE buttons make operating the receiver easier than ever. They are initially set to default settings for BD/DVD Viewing, CD Disc Listening, TV Viewing and Radio Listening. Pressing a SCENE button will automatically launch a number of operations that initiate play of the source controlled by that button. Other SCENE settings are also available, such as iPod Listening, SiriusXM Listening [model dependent], TV Sports Viewing and Action Game Playing. Browsing and selecting the settings is quickly accomplished by changing Input via the front panel and watching the on-screen display. The settings can be selected for one-time use, or they can replace the original default settings. The SCENE names can be changed also.
  • newegg HD Audio with CINEMA DSP 3D and Virtual Presence Speaker CINEMA DSP 3D provides a wide, high and dense sound field. HD Audio format decoding lets you enjoy HD Audio sources. Virtual Presence Speaker delivers 3-dimensional sound without actual use of presence speakers. The actually measured sound field data contain the information of the height of the sound images. CINEMA DSP 3D mode achieves the reproduction of the accurate height of the sound images so that it creates the accurate and intensive stereoscopic sound fields in a listening room.
  • newegg Adaptive DRC (Dynamic Range Control) Adaptive DRC automatically adjusts the dynamic range of the sound according to the volume level. This ensures that you hear clear dialogue and vocals, and all sound effects at comfortable levels. There is no need to adjust the volume level as you listen; everything from whispers to big explosions will be heard clearly and comfortably at the same volume setting. It also tones down loud TV commercials, and is ideal for low-volume, late-night listening, when you do not want to disturb others.

5 out of 5 eggsMy heart and soul

Pros: 1. Dual Zones (I have some old school box speakers in the garage for zone 2)
2. Audio and video processing is excellent
3. Can connect to routers and share media with pcs through WMP
4. Power out put is high

Has everything you could possibly need. It matches very well with my dual Klipsch VF-35 floor standing speakers and Sub-10 420w sub. I have yet to purchase rears and center and have the receiver running "straight", but the sound is still excellent even in movies because of the 3D sound.

Cons: The media sharing with pcs via windows media player seemed very slow at first. I tried opening wmp on my computer and now it works perfectly and doesn't lag.
I do have 1 big annoyance with this receiver. It will not play mp3 format audio files... I had to convert my whole library to wma for them to play via media sharing. The only other thing I can complain about is the UI. It doesn't look the greatest and can be a little slow, but it does the job.

Other Thoughts: Yamaha is definitely the brand to go with when it comes to receivers. Don't let some one talk you into getting a Denon. I did my research and everyone that went from a denon to a yamaha said it was like night and day. I didn't purchase from newegg because they were out of stock and I didn't want to wait for shipping because i had over a 1000 dollars in speakers just sitting in my livingroom with no way to use them.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent receiver

Pros: So far, has performed excellently. So much neater using HDMI and getting rid of all the A/V/Toslink cables. I use it to switch my Blu-Ray, Apple TV and Cable box. No issues. HDMI passthrough works great. 6 total HDMI inputs. Excellent control options via iOS/Android apps and even web browswer. Has 2 independent speaker zones. DSP modes bring non-Dolby digital sources to life. Awesome Rhapsody, Pandora and internet radio integration. Will also play from USB, iPod/iPhone via USB, Sirius (With optional adapter) and a DLNA server. YPAO auto setup is nice but I have to tweak the settings manually when done.

Cons: No native Airplay support. No big deal, I use an Apple TV.
Non-HD menu screens.
Remote control is a mess. I use a Logitech Harmony to control all my components.
No printed manual, but it comes with a PDF manual on CD.

Other Thoughts: Finally replaced my old HTIB. Have slowly been adding speakers to this receiver: Polk Monitor 40 fronts, Polk OWM3 Satellites and a BIC V1220 sub. Center channel next. New system sounds great and has been glitch free so far.

5 out of 5 eggsAMAZING value!

Pros: Where to start? You can fully control this thing via the Android or iOS app. That's where this thing really shows its great value. This is the cheapest receiver in the AVENTAGE line. This gets you a 3 year warranty, use of the networking/apps, and great build quality. I replaced a $900MSRP Denon receiver for this one mainly for the networkability and 3-D support, and I have been blown away. Sound quality is on par with my old Denon and the added features make it a no-brainer.

Great on-screen display which is an overlay type, including volume, etc. It also has HDMI passthru... so you can send the sound/video to your tv without having the receiver on.

Cons: None that I can think of. Seriously. I suppose it could include a multi-point microphone setup... the one included only measures the speaker levels at one point.. but honestly I think it works as good if not better than the 6-point Audyssey setup my Denon had.

Other Thoughts: The latest firmware shown on the Yamaha site is v1.16. This is the version my unit shipped with... but once I got it online it asked me if I wanted to update... and now I am running version 1.18 with zero issues!

Also, the Yamaha iOS app was just updated to allow you to control BOTH zones via the app... and even play sound files off other iOS devices on your network. Why is this cool? I plan on installing 2 speakers on my back deck and connect those to zone2. With this app I can now be out on my deck or in my yard with an android tablet/phone, iphone, ipod touch, or ipad and control the music. Brilliant.

4 out of 5 eggsSo far so good

Pros: Works right out of the box, plenty of features, easy to connect, sounds great. Once programmed the Scene buttons make this user friendly for my non-techie spouse.

Cons: Must choose between HDMI control and standby HDMI pass through. Remote provides somewhat limited control of my Sony TV, Sony Blu-Ray, and Motorola STB. Setting up all of the features to be just the way you want them is anything but straightforward and not made easier by the lack of a paper users manual. Big dumb input knob on the left but no balance or bass treble knobs?

Other Thoughts: I bought this to replace a pre-HDMI stereo A/V receiver in order to upgrade to surround sound and function as the control center for my master bedroom entertainment center. I hooked it up last evening to a center, L, and R speakers, TV, STB, and BluRay player. Connection was easy; just 3 HDMI cables and speaker wiring. YPAO set up was simple and I was up and running very quickly with a very noticeable sonic improvement over my old (stereo) set up. however, there are a ton of features and options and setting up this unit just the way you want it is not for the faint hearted. My spouse never used to play the TV through the stereo so having the Scene buttons is a big plus (once you program them for your system set up).
Tonight I plan to connect the surround speakers and a wireless LAN, and tweak the settings a bit more to my liking. Overall I'm quite pleased with the unit so far, but there's a lot more to do before i can give a more complete review.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Buy

Pros: I owned an Onkyo 805 for the past 4 years but it overheated and died. I thought it was necessary for me to own a $1000 AV receiver but when I took an honest look at my needs - 70% Blu-Ray, 25% streaming video and 5% music it would have been a waste of money to purchase something that had features that I would never use.

Speaker setup was simple with YAPO. I put the mic on a camera tripod and put it in the center of the room and ran the setup. I am not that much of an audiophile to set it up in my “optimal seating position”. I have two kids and a wife so there is no “optimal seating position”. You sit where there is room, no more, no less.

Sound is significantly crisper than with the Onkyo unit. I tested it using a DVD copy of “Saving Private Ryan” and a BR of “Terminator Salvation”. Even though the Onkyo had 130 watts/channel and the Yamaha has 90/channel, the Yamaha rocked the house – more than enough for me.

Cons: The only con is the manual – there isn’t one. My suggestion is to put the manual CD in a laptop and have it in front of you when setting up your system.

Other Thoughts: This is what it is connected to:
Polk Audio RM20 Front, Center, and Surround Speakers
Polk Audio PSW125 Black 12" 150-watt Powered Subwoofer
Samsung HL-T5089 50" LED 1080P Slim HD DLP TV
Samsung BR Player

My wife says the TV looks better. It is a 4 year old DLP so that is a good thing. Everything is connected via the Yamaha.
