5 out of 5 eggsGreat sound

Pros: Clear, easy to connect, SPDIF audio connection on the unit

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Using this soundbar for a TV in the bedroom, so we're not really missing the subwoofer, we could always go and buy one if we really wanted to. I like the SPDIF connection on the back, that was the selling feature for me.

4 out of 5 eggsYamaha Sound Bar

Pros: I have no experience with truly high end sound systems but with my 50" plasma flat screen sound system I thought I was going deaf, often having to turn on captioning to figure out what was said. So the Yamaha sound bar has been a delightful addition as I can now hear every word spoken and enjoy much richer sound quality across the board.

Cons: My 1st problem was that I did not know that I would need an adapter for the digital sound...easily solved. My ongoing problem started about 6 weeks after my purchase. The sound bar turns itself off 2-3 times per day with no one being near the bar or the remote. It immediately is able to be turned back on with the control but it is inconvenient to lose sound for no apparent reason.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Sound but needs Subwoofer

Pros: Great sound for an inexpensive soundbar! I did not have a problem with my TV remote (doesn't interfere with my 42" Samsung's IR port.) My Logitech Harmony remote supports their remote also, no need to learn the remote's commands.

Cons: Only has three digital inputs, OK for me but you might need more. Really needs a full surround input for good quality sound. (2-channel doesn't sound very good)

Other Thoughts: My TV "downgrades" my HDMI signal to 2-Ch stereo, sounded horrible when I first hooked it up. Direct connections from my devices give full surround, unbelievable difference in sound quality. Make sure you are giving this thing a full surround signal and you will be happy. Costs $100 less than the current Yamaha model, if you can still find one online!

5 out of 5 eggsWorks

Pros: Connected to my HTPC computer via the provided optical cable. Set up was straightforward. All in all took about 20min, including "learning" to respond to TV remote and sending the remote control signal back to the TV IR receiver.

Works exactly as advertised. Lows from sub-woofer are just fine; the sound is balanced. My room is a decent size ~20'by 20', but there is plenty of sound and the quality is good. I can hear highs and lows and mid-range. Surround isn't comparable to an actual 7.1 system but exceeded expectations for a soundbar.

Cons: None.

5 out of 5 eggsWorth Twice the Price!

Pros: Price, easy to hookup, sounds amazing for a soundbar and has a great design.

Cons: No HDMI but I knew that.

Other Thoughts: I bought this because the speakers on the tv like most are not all that good. I live in an apartment so full surround sound isn't ideal and this soundbar from Yamaha is a winner making a huge improvement. I was surprised by how much and how good the bass sounds on this bar. Definitely glad I bought this.

5 out of 5 eggsSounds great!

Pros: Easy to use, accepts digital audio source, sounds amazing

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I just moved into a rental house, and did not want to hang speakers all over the living room, so I bought this soundbar. I've had great success with Yamaha products, and this is no exception. It works perfectly, looks amazing, and most importantly, it sounds terrific. My 42" Panasonic plasma sits on a cabinet, and the soundbar is directly in front of it. This unfortunately blocks the TV's remote sensor, which means I actually have to STAND up (oh no!) to turn the TV on/off, but this is hardly Yamaha's fault. I turned off my TV's speakers, and I use my TV's remote for the essential volume controls on the Yamaha (though not EQ settings). I am a Roku user, so all my channel changing is done with the Roku remote. Obviously, I could mount the TV on the wall if I really needed access to the TV's sensor. I like to have the sound up loud when watching a movie, and this soundbar delivers more volume than I need. It sounds much better than a similarly priced competitor I had tried.

5 out of 5 eggsImpressive Sound

Pros: Sound quality: I'm no audiophile but, the quality of pseudo surround-sound produced and the accompanying bass is a excellent upgrade over the built in speakers of both my LCD and plasma televisions. In addition you don't have to position speakers or run cables, etc. which is great.
Look and feel: very nice appearance and it appears to be well-built
Includes necessary optical audio cable and remote.

Cons: Can't think of any.

Other Thoughts: I haven't gotten the unit to "learn" my TV or cable box remote signals yet but that's probably because I haven't taken the 5 minutes to see how you go about it. Considering the price of the unit new vs. refurbished, I'd say it really makes a lot more sense to do what I did which is buy the unit refurbished along with the inexpensive warranty extension. To each their own, though.

4 out of 5 eggsGood - clean simple upgrade to LED/LCD tv.

Pros: I paired this with a Toshiba LED/LCD tv with notoriously weak speakers in a 16x20 room. I have my TiVo, X-box, and Blu-ray HDMI connected to my TV and the TV digital audio out to the Yamaha. Now for the pros;
- Their is no comparison in sound from the Yamaha compared to the built in speakers. Greatly enhanced movies and gameplay.
- My product had no defects such as scratches or dings.
- It produces fair mid-range bass, clear mids, and crisp highs.
- Clean and sleek looking mouted under my TV.
- Install was very quick.
- Mounting brakets come with cushions that dampen vibration.
- Clear Voice control works great on television and movies enhancing the volume of people without distortion.
- Surround sound function is good but not great.
- Works seamlessly with my learning TiVo remote.

Cons: - Not many advanced audio controls such as equalizers but in my case it is not needed.
- Volume changes are a little tight. As in to get an appreciable difference in volume I must press up or down several times.

Other Thoughts: I havn't really cranked it to see how loud it gets or to see about distortion but it gets much louder than I need it in my apartment without any distortion.
Would be nice if I could easily play and charge my I-phone on it through a side usb port, not really an issue as I can play music through my X-box.

4 out of 5 eggsNot bad

Pros: Looks good; produces sound that no flat-panel TV is likely to match.

Cons: No surround sound; no soundstage; sometimes does not shut down using TV learned-remote function.

Other Thoughts: At the outset, you're probably safe buying this unit despite refurbished electronics' being fraught with peril. The only issue that we have noted is that it sometimes will not shut down when the television remote's off button is depressed.

The ATS-1010 has revealed sounds in the mid-bass range that we never before heard from our plasma TV. Just be aware that you're basically buying a little 2.1 speaker system. It certainly does not generate any kind of surround sound, and the unit is too small to produce a meaningful soundstage. At the price we paid ($135), it is a good set of TV-replacement speakers. I would not pay the $250 street price for this unit, because for that money you could get a decent pair of bookshelf speakers and a small amplifier.
