This review is from: YAMAHA Aventage RX-A3030 9.2-Channel Network AV Receiver

Pros: Has so many input connections you'll never use them all. Also has a full front panel input that allows you to hook up mp3 players, phones, etc via usb, camcorders, and what ever other device you have that's portable. Supports up to 9.2 configuration. 11.2 with an external amp. Has a wired port for internet. You can connect to SiriusXM internet service. Sound is incredible. Will upmix video to 4k, and pass through 3d. Calibration of speakers is super easy, and can even be setup for multi-position. Works very well with the top of the line Klipsch this setup.

Cons: In order to run 11.2 configuration, you need to have an external amp. It was really tough to figure this out. The manual contradicts itself. This thing is huge! It barely fits on my entertainment stand. The remote is huge, and not backlit. The LCD display on the remote is pointless. You have to download the manual, all you get is the warranty and quick setup guide. The Wifi adapter (separate purchase) doesn't work too well. Never got it configured correctly. Luckily running Cat6 fixed the issue. You really need to make sure your entertainment cabinet/stand/rack/shelf is deep and high enough to support this unit. It is huge.

Other Thoughts: We have been using Yamaha receivers in our entertainment room for 15 years. When some of our original speakers from a HTIB setup started going out, I was shopping around for some new speakers. Of course, I got carried away and replaced all the old Yamaha Speakers with Klipsch speakers. Then I got to thinking about the receiver itself. Our old one is still in great condition, but dated. It's about 5 years old. I wasn't impressed with sony, onkoyo, or Samsung. This unit is perfect. I love all the new features. I can now get SiriusXM in the house. It will also handle Pandora I think, along with my DLNA server on my NAS. It handles everything, and will upscale to 4k for someday when I get a 4k tv. They even put in an extra HDMI In. I have enough speakers for 11.2, but in order to set that up, you need an external Amp. Had problem figuring that out since the manual seems to contradict itself on this topic. I had to email tech support at Yamaha to get the straight answer, but they were quick to respond. Still on the fence with 11.2 right now though. Setting up was easy. Please note that the monster banana plugs that are joined together will not work on this unit. They are not spaced far enough apart. It's not Yamaha's fault though. The sound is incredible. The first thing I did after setup and calibrated was to play LOTR Fellowship of the Ring. The audio in the introduction was almost as good as in an Imax theater. This device will also pass through 4k and 3d signal. This unit may be on the pricey side, but it was a huge improvement from my 5 year old Yamaha unit. I bought the wifi adapter, but it never connected correctly to my network. It was just easier to run a Cat6 line to the unit. I say definitely give this unite a try. You won't be disappointed. Just make sure it will fit in you entertainment center. It is really big. Both in height and depth. The length is about the same as older models.
