5 out of 5 eggsPioneer makes great products

Pros: Worked well bought it back in '07, gave it away to some one after a few years and it is still running strong, enough said.

Cons: none

4 out of 5 eggsNice Player

Pros: Works well. Handles most Xvid/Divx you throw at it. Haven't checked out progressive scan component connection yet. Love the feature where you can skip to a specified time in a Xvid movie - great feature if you have to continue watching a movie midway.

Cons: A little slow to power up from stand-by - not a huge deal breaker.

Other Thoughts: Had a Pioneer earlier which died just outside of the 1 year warranty. Thought I would give them another chance because I liked their product features.

5 out of 5 eggsVery good

Pros: Works as intended. Everything is working great on this unit. It plays anything I throw at it without a hickup and the loadtimes are good as well. The recall funtion is also very nice and works perfectly.

Cons: non that I can find

Other Thoughts: For the price, you should not hesitate. Best player I've owned.

3 out of 5 eggsGood divx player, but...

Pros: Does, in fact, play any *properly encoded* divx files I've tried. And for me this is a real diverse assortment of files from many sources.

The price was right $50 from newegg)

Cons: 1) The "disk navigator" does not display more than the first 13 chars of long filenames - an inexcusable oversight considering that there is room for almost 40 chars

2) No pageUp/Down key for traversing long lists of files in the "disk navigator"

3) *Most* irritating: the disk memory DOES NOT apply to DIVX files. If the unit turns off, which it does automatically when left in pause for more than 30 mins, IT LOOSES YOUR PLACE. This happens to me all the time: the phone rings, I pause the movie, and if I don't get back within 30mins I have to manually locate where I left off. (The manual is WRONG on this point)

4) There is NO WAY to disable that auto-off "feature"

5) To make matters worse, there is only 1 fastForward/Rewind speed (despite what the manual claims)

Other Thoughts: I'm not sorry I bought the unit - I needed a way to watch my extensive divx collection on a TV. And the price was right: $50 at NewEgg

This unit seems to be well build -- but poorly engineered from a User Interface point of view. The designers should have anticipated these problems. For instance, why the Auto-standby?? This unit uses almost NO POWER when a disk is not spinning. And didn't anyone consider *where* divx files come from: a modern computer that supports long file names. Folks might just cut a dvd with names like

"StarTrek - DeepSpace9 - S01E01 Emissary, Part I"
"StarTrek - DeepSpace9 - S01E02 Emissary, Part II"
etc.

All we get with this unit is a series of undifferentiated "StarTrek - De"

5 out of 5 eggsGreat and inexpensive

Pros: I bought this player because my old one is having trouble with some newer DVDs. This one plays everything fine. It has a lot of nice features, and an uncluttered remote.

Cons: The buttons on the device (not the remote) are overly small for some reason. It is hard to tell if I've actually pressed play or not. Not really a big deal since the majority of the time, I use the remote.

5 out of 5 eggsBest Player

Pros: Compact. All necessary buttons on front panel. All necessary connectors in the back for a non-1080p device. Plays everything I've thrown at it. X.264 AVI file plays fantastic. Obviously burned DVDs play perfectly including the ones you may buy off the street.

Cons: For what it is none that I can think of.

Other Thoughts: Had a Toshiba SD4000. What a piece of garbage that was.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent player

Pros: Better build quality than I expected. User interface is good. Extremely simple to connect, there's not much here. Has played .avi, VOB, mpg, and encrypted DVD nicely. Display is big enough to be readable, a nice cyan. Subtitles and sound channel support work really well. Shipping box is well done, though NewEgg did surprise me by actually double packing my shipment. We don't have to fire up a laptop to watch videos anymore so the house is thrilled, excellent value for the money!

Cons: It could use an aspect adjustment control. The power cord is a little short, as is the included composite video cable. I wish it had more audio and video outs. Like most electronic components today, the silkscreened text on the device is way too small for older eyes. Probably the main real con is that this device does NOT support surround sound, for anyone who cares. It has a 'simulated surround' mode and that's it. For the price, I find all of these easy to ignore.

5 out of 5 eggsSimply Amazing...

Pros: REALLY Does play everything. I am a huge video downloader off the net. I love documentaries, Discovery & History Channel stuff etc... and I hated converting all .avi, .mpg files to DVD format to watch on my TV. This was my solution to that HUGE Time consuming problem. This is a must have if you are in the same position as I am.

Cons: Not one at all.

Other Thoughts: Not only is this a "play anything: DVD Player, Newegg shipped it on Monday I received it on Tuesday. Amazing.
