Not that long ago, all you needed was a stereo receiver/amplifier with enough inputs and you could handle your TV, your stereo, your CD player, your radio, and maybe, some vinyl records. Now we have digital high definition video, various digital sound sources, and still have the “traditional” ones, too. Our options just got a lot more complicated.

Pioneer aims to help simplify things again. Not just a radio receiver with thirty AM/FM presets, not just a stereo amplifier for your CD player, this unit is also a sophisticated switching center for most of your audio and video needs. 3 HDMI 1080p inputs, 2 component video inputs and 3 AV inputs, satellite radio ready, iPod compatible through a USB port, 4 digital audio inputs, and an analog multi-channel input (up to six inputs), and a remote control that can not only control the receiver, but many of the components hooked up to it.

Get your cables and your multi-media life untangled. Check this out.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat system!

Pros: The quality of this system is fantastic. The sound output after years of service is still great, and the setup feature with the multi-directional mic is awesome.

Cons: HDMI switching is wonky, works most of the time, but sometimes you have to switch between inputs to get it to click to the right one.

Other Thoughts: After 4 years of service, the HDMI Out died, and I haven't been able to find a part number to replace it. The rest of the system works fine, but I can't use it for any sort of video watching anymore.

4 out of 5 eggsvery very good

Pros: This thing does it all

Cons: It said it comes with HDMI 1080p Video Repeater which i did not come with & one of my 3 component plugins is bad but who cares all my hdmi's work just fine and that's what counts.

Other Thoughts: For thoses who are looking for the receiver to say Dolby TrueHD or DTS Master Audio receivers won't say it because it decodes it as direct sound (pcm direct, pure direct or analog direct) use the stream direct option on this receiver. For PS3 users switch your PS3's sound option to "PCM" to get HD audio.

5 out of 5 eggsIts so easy

Pros: Easiest setup ever. Plug the speakers in, plug the mic in, and auto tune.

Cons: The pioneer HDMI link is not so hot. If the receiver is on, and then the TV is turned on, the receiver will shut off. Same issue with an Xbox360 also causing the receiver to shut off.
Even better is watching cable with TV and receiver on (obviously), then turning on the Xbox which shuts down the receiver, which in turn turns off the TV.

The only work around I have found is to make sure the receiver is the last piece to be turned on, or just turn off KURO link. Nice idea, but for the extra hassle it causes it earns a meh.

Other Thoughts: Item is used with a Toshiba 46 Regza and Xbox360. Take 5 energy speakers.

Weight does not equal high quality electronic components.

It does not mean the unit has a good power supply.

Just because your caps are big, does not mean they are necessary. And if they are necessary, you have a poor power supply.

Please quite using weight as a measure of quality people. Just because it is heavy does not mean it is durable. It just means it hits the ground with more force then something lighter.

5 out of 5 eggsexcellent product ... 100% satisfied

Pros: After making all connections to the Klipsch Quintet sound is excellent. autocalibration helps a lot although it feels low volume on the rear speakers, this can change of course with advanced calibration.

the combination Klipsch Quintet + pionner highly recommended

Cons: nothing

5 out of 5 eggsgood unit

Pros: for the price you can't beat what this has to offer. To the poster that mentioned Marantz ... RMS power is based on impedance of the speakers you have attached ... nothing to do with a 30w old school analog amp.

generally ..the lower impedence number (8ohm will draw less power than 4ohm ect) or in other words ... you may get 90w from 8ohm and 120w from 4ohm.

as far as feeling flimsy? its very inexpensive unit ... thick casing = heat and heat retention ..and how often does one move a 7 channel receiver?

if you wanna compare apples to apples ... you can't compare the old school marantz to any of todays real home theater receivers.

this is really a great unit and will provide a great experience for anyone requiring solid 7.1 sound.

All modern receivers provide the GUI on the tv screen to tweak... no more knobs all over the place (although you can do it manually without the GUI ... its just a bit more tedious).

Cons: none really other than no gold plated connectors ..but for this price who cares. its not audiophile grade, but its close ... and to step up to actually gain would cost another 1000usd ... so yes a good product this is

Other Thoughts: youd have to spend nearly 1000usd more to gain any noticeable difference from this receiver ... you wouldnt be looking in this price range if you are the type that actually notices these small improvements...

this is great for everyday family room home theater.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat affordable upgrade

Pros: Excellent upgrade from a Logitech Z-5500. Well balanced and clean sound. The mic setup process was impressive, it feels like my surround sound system was optimally configured for my living room. I can finally hear movie dialogue clearly from my center speaker. Very well-balanced with music and movie sounds.

Cons: Nothing I can really nitpick. It performs exactly how I want and expect it to, and at times it exceeds.

My only complaint is that the Logitech Z-5500 sub woofer isn't compatible with this receiver. But that's not Pioneer's fault, Logitech made it that way. If anyone knows how to repurpose the sub woofer to play on any system, please let me know.

Note: my experience with this receiver improved a hundred fold after my troubleshooting fix (see below).

Other Thoughts: Other owners and I have/had encountered an annoying issue with this receiver and Logitech Harmony universal remotes.

After powering the devices with the remote, and the receiver goes to the right source (e.g. HDMI1). But then, the receiver would automatically switch to TV\SAT. This happened every single time I powered my system. My temporary fix was to go through the Help check on my remote, which would then assign the correct source. But this was unacceptable.

I resolved to fix it last weekend and I'm pretty sure I found the culprit. Disable KURO LINK and see if that fixes the issue (page 62 in the manual). My receiver now works perfectly with the remote.

I hope I made your day with this tip! Honestly, it was driving me batty.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: A lot of good features and sound is really good on my ORB speakers with Mirage S10 Subwoofer. Also works with my 2nd gen ITOUCH.

Cons: It gets really warm even in idle mode but over all a very cheap and good performing receiver.

Other Thoughts: New Egg is the best online retailer very fast shipment..

5 out of 5 eggsBest Price for DTSHD and DolbyTruHD

Pros: Hands down the GUI interface and Advanced MCACC set up is my favorite feature. Between the mic and full EQ in manual setup you can get the perfect sound. Although the MCACC does a wonderful job at calibrating. If you have multiple places where you sit and watch a movie (i.e a sofa then your recliner) like I do. You can save, I believe up to 3 or 6 (Can't remember off the top of my head) memorized MCACC positions. Which allows you to have geared listening to wherever you sit. By far my favorite feature.

The I have tested BD's and HDDVD's through HDMI to the Pioneer then passed to my Samsung DLP and the sound is amazing. Uncompressed PCM in the movie "Signs" is astounding. My mother, who isn't an audiophile, even commented on the details. To quote her "It feels like I am outside running through the corn fields too!"

If you switch inputs that are connected through HDMI it auto switches to the correct input.

Remote has everything on it. :)

Cons: Only con I can think of off the top of my head is the heat this bad boy puts out. I am in the process of figuring, either another place for it, or a small fan modded to my cabinet.

Other Thoughts: Overall I am highly satisfied with this purchase.

You could get the Denon counterpart to this Receiver but this one is great for the price. You won't be disappointed! I wasn't

5 out of 5 eggsOutstanding Sound Quality

Pros: Outstanding sound quality when compared to other mid-range av receiver competition - onkyo, denon, yamaha, to name a few. Great connectivity. Comes with an ipod/iphone cable. Super easy setup. Clear, easy to understand graphical user interface. Auto speaker calibration. Hi-end design. Lots more features.

Cons: Confusing manual. Just make sure to read it over.

Other Thoughts: Some people have complainted about it being tight in the back for speaker wires, I use banana plugs and found it to be very easy setup.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Buy

Pros: Super easy to setup and the sound is amazing. PS3, DISHnetwork reciever work great with it. Matches up perfectly with my Samsung 1080P 61'' TV. Ipod interface also works nicely with my iPhone 3GS, shows cover art and music information. This was a good upgrade for me and brought my media room back to life.

Cons: Connecting speakers on the back was a bit hard if you have big hands, luckily this is not something you will have to do very often. Switching sometimes is slow or requires me to reselect via my television, this could be an issue with my TV.

Other Thoughts: Overall this is an amazing buy considering the free shipping on top of the 120 bucks off. There is no way this reciever should get a 2 star rating, its definately top notch.
