5 out of 5 eggsGood performer

Pros: I purchased this set to upgrade my Klipsch 5.1 system from a standard definition TV to work with new Samsung 50-inch plasma set. Setup was fast. Sound is better than previously with my same speakers. I used the microphone option to set up for optimal sound, which worked great.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: iTouch/iPhone connection is nice option. Receiver works fine as FM station receiver as well.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat receiver

Pros: I only had a need for a 2.1 setup, so I wasn't looking for anything super high-end (without sacrificing quality) and this receiver has worked out great. Especially for the price. Superior sound (running through some Cambridge Audioworks speakers) and I haven't even had to take the volume past 60 yet (it's plenty loud - even when watching live concerts).

Cons: none yet

5 out of 5 eggsi love this reciever

Pros: this is a very clean and powerful reciever. the price was great and i recieved it very quickly. i have owned sonys in the past. this reciever sounds better, and is simpler to operate. i'm running 5 jbl speakers with a active 15" subwoofer. they have never sounded so good!

Cons: the soundfields are pretty much worthless. unless you like echo chambers. i had problems figureing out the manual untill i started reading the fine print footnotes. hooking up the on screen programing should be simpler to understand

Other Thoughts: like all manuals, if your not tec savvy you'll be spending a lot of time on the phone with customer service.

5 out of 5 eggsNot much to complain about

Pros: Price, very decent build quality, latest gen decoding, good sound, usable remote.

Cons: Not 7.1, 110/w per channel is probably overstated. Pioneer's power ratings are a bit misleading.

Other Thoughts: I use this receiver in a small apartment living room with a old school Celestion speaker array without a sub. I had no issues with setup and performance is flawless.. no dropouts or problems with my other HDMI components (Blu-Ray and cable box). Sound is musical and dynamic, though maybe not as rich as from previous Onkyo receivers I have owned. Overall, an excellent unit at great price. This is my first Pioneer product and I am impressed.

3 out of 5 eggsHair tigger circuit breaker

Pros: Feature rich. Easy set-up. iPod docking works great. Good sound quality. Great value.

Cons: Complicated handset navigation. User manual is difficult to decipher. Power cuts off frequently, depending on volume level, when using dvd/blue-ray player.

Other Thoughts: Power circuit breaker has a hair trigger, which I think is a serious flaw.

4 out of 5 eggsNo too bad for entry level

Pros: Needed to replace an older SONY ES series 5.1 receiver that finally died. I will be setting up a HT with projector later, so didn't want to go too crazy with the living room set up. The set up and calibration mic (Included )worked well, sound is great. ( I set it up manually, and although I have a good ear, the auto calibration sounds better. I used a tripod with the Mic at ear level of the "Sweet spot" seat

Cons: As previously mentioned, having the OSD only work through component cables, but Once it was set up, removed the extra cables for a much cleaner reverse. Others have complained about not being able to go component in and HDMI out, but not an issue for me as everything is HDMI. Not a CON on this, but most receivers I have had have different sound stages, and most sound like echo chambers- majority of people will just set it up for normal EQ and stage, and let it go from there

Other Thoughts: I Bought the cheaper VSX-519 from a local store and wasn't happy with it, this is definitely worth the slight bump in price. I would have opted for the 819 if it was in stock, but don't need 7.1 yet. I am Driving Efficient 4 ohm speakers in front with no issues in overheating the amp, but do not really crank it up past 60. (Due to UL issues most mfgs will not mention 4/6 ohm applications- biggest issue is higher current draw causing overheating)

Haven't used the IPOD / MP3 hook ups, as I have a seperate whole house music system, but having cables come with it is nice.

This weighs about 10 lbs less than the old receiver-

5 out of 5 eggsPioneer VSX-819H-K

Pros: Great HT Receiver, for the price, has excellent performance and many useful value loaded features.
Has all the latest Loss less audio codec decoding (Dolby TrueHD, DTS HD MA)
Other useful feature is XV color, (Ability to provide deep rich colors).

I also found the MACC auto calibration process worked rather well and was very accurate in optimally adjusting the sound parameters to work with my room’s environment.

Cons: The only minor quibble that I have is the OSD display only works via composite or component cable. Not really a big deal.

Other Thoughts: I ordered this through Newegg.Ca
Received the item within 3 days and that included free shipping.
On all my purchases so far, the service from Newegg.Ca has been excellent.

4 out of 5 eggspretty decent

Pros: 2/4/5.1 channel, hdmi / component / usb / ipod / optical / coax. easy to operate, sounds pretty good. happy overall.

Cons: wish it could convert between video inputs (hdmi to component or vice-versa) instead of just relaying. wish it had a 'normalize' function to keep volume levels within a certain range (loud commercials etc).

Other Thoughts: on-screen setup requires component cables to monitor. if you dont have them you have to use the tiny display on the receiver. NOTE: if you dont have component cables you should be able to use regular red/yellow/white cables that came with your video game system. or regular RCA cables if you have 3 of them. worked for me anyhow.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat But

Pros: Sounds quality is great, work amazing with my surround system and made me just want to sit and watch all my favorite movies all over again.
The IPod hook up is great for listening to music.
Overall a great upgrade from my previous model. Newegg set the price perfect as well.

Cons: I have the same problem as Andy B with the HD audio settings, I ended up just setting it so that I wouldnt have to do the constant reset everytime I wanted to watch a movie.
