1 out of 5 eggsAnother Dead Pioneer Receiver

Pros: Nice features, attractive unit.

Cons: Very poor quality. This unit died on me. The dreaded MCACC blinking light. I think this unit is plagued with this issue but of course.. Pioneer knows nothing about it. Maybe if they just did a web search they'd find hundreds of posting dealing with the issue on this receiver. If it were a car it would be recalled!

Too bad Pioneer doesn't care about it's customers. Sad as I purchased a VSX-1121 at the same time... it still performs perfectly. And stupid me... I just purchased a VSX-1124. Only because my 1121 is awesome.

1 out of 5 eggsGreat while it lasted

Pros: Great sound, plenty of HDMI, seamless Apple airplay

Cons: Dead in 2 years due to the dreaded blinking advanced MCACC light. Cost to repair is more than its worth. Pioneer support is zero help.

Other Thoughts: I will never own another Pioneer product.

1 out of 5 eggsbroken after warranty

Pros: good looking and great sound

Cons: broken just after warranty. there is a FL OFF blink. Turn off 5 seconds later after I turn it on. Some online post says it was caused by amp transistor, however mine didn't. same error even after I disconnected amp board.

1 out of 5 eggsBroke after 18 months

Pros: This was a great receiver while it lasted.

Cons: The processor went bad 6 months after the warranty ended. It will output sub-woofer sound thru the pre-out and it will output the sound for the calibration but it will not output any other sound from any kind of source input. Too bad because I used to like pioneer

2 out of 5 eggsNot such a great deal

Pros: HDMI connectors for most devices. Remote can be programmed for most devices. Low price (under $300.00).

Cons: HDMI connectors faulty.

Other Thoughts: I have been a "dyed in the wool" Pioneer owner since the early 1980s. All of my home receivers have been Pioneer, as well as my latest car audio unit. In the past, I had very little problems with these products. When I purchased this AV receiver, I was expecting more of the same quality and durability as in the past. I connected everything and tested everything. Very satisfied. I seldom used this receiver and the home theater setup that it is connected with. It sat idle for about 8 months when I decided to watch something on the TV. No matter what I tried to do, I could not get a picture. At first I blamed the TV, then the Blu-Ray player, then the cable STB. All of these were ruled out, so I contacted Pioneer about warranty service (being under a year old). I took the unit to a local authorized repair shop. They kept it for over a month and a half. After they repaired it, I took it home and reconnected everything except for the cable STB (I had no real desire to watch anything at that time). So, for about 4 months it sat idle again. I recently had a desire to watch cable, so I hooked up the STB. All I could get were intermittent signal connections. At first I thought that it was the cable box, but after I swapped it with a new one, the same problem was there. The original warranty for the receiver is expired as well as the 90 day warranty from the repair. I am currently in communication with Pioneer to see what can be done to fix this problem.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Excellent sound quality. Ease of set up. Price point...I got this one during a Newegg sale, paid 1/4 of original price. iPhone compatability was a huge selling point for me

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Not really a con as I bought this originally for iPhone access as well. I now own a Galaxy S4 and am hoping they do a firmware upgrade so that I can use the two in conjunction. Unfortunately Pioneer seems to want to stay strictly with Apple products

2 out of 5 eggsWorked great...while in warranty

Pros: Great sound and features

Cons: Failed shortly outside of warranty period.

Other Thoughts: I purchased a VSX-1021-K in September of 2011 (one year warranty). I really enjoyed using the product for about a year and a half until the unit suddenly started powering off with a flashing "FL OFF" light. According to the owner's manual, this is symptomatic of two possible causes. However, even armed with this exact information, the Pioneer authorized service centers in my area refuse to even give me "ball park" estimates on repair costs for the two possible causes without my first paying the close to a quarter of the unit's original cost for an estimate. I don't like being in a situation where I might spend a quarter of the unit's cost just to find the repair cost is close to the replacement value of the unit.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic reciever, best with Plasma

Pros: This model is the first year that i've seen from Pioneer to offer a seperate video destination setting for LCD, LED, Plasma... that was interesting. It appears to do a great job of nearest sampling for the reduced bit depth of the LED and LCD tv's. For Plasma, it appears to apply a full Kuro algorithm. I recalibrated my Panasonic GT25 again with the new receiver and it looks better than ever.

Cons: NONE
