A perfect entry-level AV receiver fully equipped to be your access point for today's wide variety of entertainment sources.
High power 5.1 channel amplification for dynamic home theater performance.
"Made For iPhone" certified; access your iTunes library in your living room.
Introducing the Pioneer VSX-522-K AV Receiver
With 400 watts of clear audio reproduction and state-of-the-art technology, the new VSX-522-K is the perfect entry-level receiver to let you experience Pioneer’s heritage of quality sound reproduction and innovative technology in your home system.
The VSX-522-K seamlessly brings your iTunes music library where you want it: your living room. Because it's Made for iPhone Certified, the VSX-522 is compatible with iPod and iPhone devices. Plus the front panel USB port is ready for the newest sources for music: smartphones, tablets, most Android devices and thumb drives, and has been upgraded to handle CD quality, uncompressed 48Khz/16-bit MP3, WMA and AAC files.
Ultimate Sound Control
The VSX-522-K supports the latest high-definition audio formats like Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio to give your Blu-ray Disc soundtracks unsurpassed audio quality. Pioneer also includes all Dolby and DTS surround formats best suited for the wide variety of available entertainment sources, including the newest Dolby Pro Logic IIz height channel.
The VSX-522-K also features Pioneer's exclusive Multi-Channel Acoustic Calibration system (MCACC), providing an optimized multi-channel listening experience by measuring every speaker's connection, noting its size and distance from the listening point, sound levels and timbre in order to calibrate, customize and maximize performance specifically for your room.
Pioneer's exclusive Phase Control feature provides coherent sound reproduction through the use of phase matching for an optimal sound image at your listening position.
With the unique Front Stage Surround Advance feature, you experience a virtual surround sound environment. If you don’t want to worry about routing speaker cables around your room, your speakers can be placed up front and still sound great.
By filling in areas where minute details were left out during the compression process even audio like WMA, MP3 and AAC is enhanced with another Pioneer exclusive, Advanced Sound Retriever, letting you enjoy near CD quality sound from compressed music sources.
There's also an Auto Level Control, equalizing volume differences between portable audio tracks or television programming and eliminating jarring volume changes. Which means the only thing that shocks you is how good it sounds.
The Latest in HDMI Technology
All Pioneer's newest receivers support the latest HDMI specifications. Not only do you get the most out of existing movies and music, with the VSX-522 you're prepared for the new generation of 3D video content. With 4 HDMI inputs, you have plenty of connectivity options for the growing number of high-definition sources available. All Pioneer receivers also offer advanced HDMI conveniences. The VSX-522-K has Audio Return Channel, which allows TV audio to go back through a single HDMI connection - a must feature for the newest smart TVs. Plus its HDMI Standby Through mode lets video and audio signals pass through the VSX-522-K to the TV even when the receiver is off.

1 out of 5 eggsNot an owner, because...

Pros: n/a

Cons: Mystery pricing scheme.

Other Thoughts: At a time I was seriously considering a Pioneer receiver. Whether it's a Newegg thing or a Pioneer thing, since they went to this "you can't know the price until you checkout" garbage, I will not buy. Tell me how much it is, period. If I have to make more than one extra click to see the price, it's no sale. Whoever came up with this model has likely cost Pioneer a customer.

2 out of 5 eggsNo Netflix sound

Pros: Lots of hdmi ports

Cons: Will not play sound from Netflix videos without the 5.1 logo through hdmi. I sent an email to pioneer with no response. Some of my videos won't play sound either. Obviously some sort off encoding issue, but the manual isn't any help. I am going to try coax or optical for sound but this is very inconvenient.

1 out of 5 eggsNot Good

Pros: Looks nice.

Cons: First one I received did not hav output to surround speakers. RMA'ed. Second one still no output to surrounds and then ubrutly died alltogether. RMA'ed for refund. Newegg did me good on RMA process and paid for return shipping on both units.

Other Thoughts: I have the 1022 unit for my Home theater set up in my living room and have not had any issues with that unit for a couple years. Wanted this set-up to use on my gaming computer. I ended up with a YAMAHA instead. Doesn't look as pretty but does the job.

1 out of 5 eggsSerious design flaws

Pros: This receiver has good features for the price--the automated setup was great. Works well, sometimes.

Cons: There are some major design flaws with this receiver:
1. The receiver does not decode sound for Roku. There are forum threads on this and no one can figure it out.
2. The receiver does not decode surround for certain Xbox apps (amzn vod for one). Not sure if this is the receivers fault, but assuming so based on point #1.
3. 45 days after purchasing from newegg, the front right channel stopped working. Called pioneer to get them to send me a new one, they said I had to take it to a "service center". Closest one was in the Bronx (I'm in manhattan). Called newegg to see if they could help--they wouldn't take it back. Was without a receiver for a week and had to lug the thing all over the city.
4. The automated setup menu that displays on your tv only shows when you use composite video output from the receiver, not HDMI. For an HDMI receiver, this is terrible and inconvenient if your tv is hanging on the wall.

Other Thoughts: I wish I had spent more money and purchased a more quality product.

1 out of 5 eggsGood until it stopped working

Pros: Nice features and price.

Cons: Well, it looks like I am one of the unlucky ones who got a bad unit. The receiver worked good for the first ~two months. Now it flashes TEMP after a few minutes and turns off. It is not overheating (is on a table by itself) and no speakers are hooked up so my guess is some sensor has gone bad.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: 4 HDMI inputs! Easy to setup with lots of features. Love the "lights out" display option.

Cons: On Screen Display setup only works on Composite Video output not HDMI.

Other Thoughts: Has all the connections you should need. 5.1 sound is just fine I don't need to keep up with the Joneses...

2 out of 5 eggsGreat!.... Until

Pros: Easy Setup and Great Sound with HDMI

Cons: Well I have had this receiver for not quite two months and last night I turned the unit off and came back later and turned it on... and no sound on any inputs. I have a 5.1 setup which is now silenced. Now I have to go through the factory repair process. I'll see my receiver in a few months!!

Other Thoughts: Why does this always happen right after the 30 day warranty.

1 out of 5 eggsPoor Start

Pros: Easy setup/sounds good.

Cons: After just over a week of hooking it up, the front display goes out. Also having trouble with sound on netflix running through this receiver, I don't know exactly what causes it, i have sound on xbox, then i run netflix, and i have sound UP TILL I chose a program, then nothing...back out, nothing. I blame this receiver due to I had no problems at all till this.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: For a receiver with HDMI this is a great price! and the ipod connection is nice as well. And the receiver has plenty of power (for me at least) I also found the on screen menu very easy to maneuver. I also have a Sony receiver and that menu is a nightmare (no on screen either)

Cons: None for my setup

Other Thoughts: Wanted to replace an old receiver with one that had HDMI and for the price this one is great. Don't have a need for two sets of front speakers so the one speaker set limit is no big deal. Using this downstairs hooked up to a Playstation and HTPC

Pros: Works good for me

Cons: Would be nice to have owners manual printed out but it is on cd rom

Other Thoughts: Works great for my set up using 2 front 1 center and 1 sub
in the bed room
