Plus, since your iPhone, iPod and now your iPad charge automatically when connected, it's the ultimate plug-and-play integration with your home theater. You can enjoy music with album art from the iTunes store, shared videos and movies, downloaded TV shows from iTunes, photos, web content from YouTube and much more. Got a call? The iPhone will mute movies and music so you can take it. High quality streaming with AirPlay and HTC Connect

Simply connect the receiver to your home network via Ethernet, and it instantly becomes the hub for playback of your iTunes music from your connected Apple device or networked computer.
Pioneer is the first consumer electronics manufacturer to receive HTC Connect certification. HTC Connect helps create a convenient wireless solution to enjoy content stored on HTC Connect compatible smartphones, eliminating the need to leave your smartphone physically docked, cradled or connected with cables. Stream audio content while simultaneously making calls, browsing the Internet, texting, or playing games on your smartphone.
You can even view song information including song title, artist, and track time as well as album art on a connected display. Not only that, the SC-1222 supports network audio sources in Zone 2, allowing you to send music to another room

Plus you'll enjoy enriched quality with Sound Retriever AIR technology, created specifically to enhance Bluetooth audio. Select your favorite programming from music sources like vTuner, Pandora, or SiriusXM internet radio, accessing thousands of Internet radio stations from around the world.
Ultimate sound control
What really separates the SC-1222 is the sound. Dolby TrueHD delivers high-defintion surround audio, while Dolby Pro-Logic IIz takes surround sound to the next level. DTS HD Master Audio decoders mean Blu-Ray Discs have never sounded better. It is like having your own sound engineer precision-tuning to your environment.
Class D3 amplification
The SC-1222's Class D3 7-channel amplifier is one of the most powerful amplifiers of any multi-channel A/V receiver Pioneer has ever produced. Designed for audiophiles, Class D3 amplification features a direct signal path, with no EMI filters, feedback loops, or current limiters. Unlike regular amps, Class D3 amplifiers are 4-OHM certified so they safely power those low-impedance speakers that other receivers just can’t handle. These amplifiers run cool, using just a fraction of the energy of less efficient designs. Class A/B amplifiers simply cannot match the efficiency of Class D3 as their power output per channel diminishes rapidly when more channels are added to the work-load. This kind of unprecedented power capability allows you to appreciate the full dynamics from any media source in a way never before possible.
Advanced Marvel Qdeo video preocessing for high picture quality
Using Marvell Qdeo processing technology and Pioneer's extensive video know-how makes home theater a truly immersive experience. The SC-1222 provides video conversion from composite and component video to HDMI for a single-wire high-definition audio and video solution as well as up to 1080p video scaling for an exceptional picture regardless of the source, creating natural and noise-free video for maximum performance and flexibility.
Transform your Apple device into a powerful remote control
Communicating with the SC-1222 wirelessly through your home network is easy with Pioneer's iControlAV2012 app, downloadable at no charge through iTunes and Google Play, turning your iPhone, iPod touch and iPad device or select Android devices into a powerful remote control for your receiver. The all new iControlAV2012 is fully redesigned, incorporating everything from basic volume and input selection to advanced features like EQ adjustments and Internet Radio control.
iControlAV2012 includes enhanced features like vertical and horizontal orientation and intuitive control of music from networked PCs as well as a super- cool finger EQ adjust screen; simply draw the EQ curve to your desired sound preference. New Sound Explorer gives you easy access to experiment with the many powerful sound enhancements the SC-1222 offers.
AVNavigator for iPad is an application that allows you to set-up and use Pioneer's multichannel AV Receiver through your PC and home network.
Fine-tune your sound with advanced MCACC
Like a musical instrument, your home theater system needs to be tuned. Pioneer's Advanced Multi-Channel Acoustic Calibration system (MCACC) provides an optimized, multi-channel listening experience that's calibrated and customized specifically to your room by measuring every speaker's connection, and noting size and distance from the listening point, sound levels and timbre.

1 out of 5 eggsDead after 1-1/2 years - digital circuit board failure

Pros: Runs cool, great sound and picture

Cons: After a year and a half we started getting popping sounds through the speakers followed by a shrill, high pitched screaming sound. Like scares the heck out of you and makes you jump out of your chair loud. And a "UE22" error message appeared on the screen. After the error message appeared we couldn't get any sound out of it. Called Pioneer, finally spoke with someone after being on-hold for an hour. Took it in for repair and the digital circuit board is bad. After doing some research online it appears Pioneer had this issue with many of their receivers. We priced out a new digital circuit board from Pioneer ($315) which is ridiculous. Pair that with a $100 labor bill to install it and you can pretty much buy a new one for the same price. Since warranty expires after 1 year we're hosed. Repair bill is on us or purchase a new receiver. The most irritating thing is that apparently Pioneer has had this issue with multiple A/V Receiver lines and has failed to fix it. The receiver lived up to the Pioneer name with amazing sound, but not sure we'll be purchasing another one. I'd be ready to fork out for a hefty repair bill at some point if you purchase this or other Pioneer models. Beware!

1 out of 5 eggsLow lifetime.

Pros: Easy to set up. Excellent sound quality for 1st year of ownership.

Cons: After 1 year, randomly would hear "clicks" in audio. Then started randomly emitting a very loud, low frequency tone (fix by shutting off, turning on again). Finally (25 months) no audio output whatsoever, with "UE22" on front screen. Googling shows most people just decided to replace with a non-Pioneer product.

5 out of 5 eggsawesome Receiver

Pros: I already reviewed it. Just I think my nickname is not shown in case anyone needs how to adjust the sub/bass for this or any Pioneer Receiver with Advanced MCACC. SOrry. It wont work on receivers with normal mcacc. My nick is javygonx. Email me there at gmail dot com.

Cons: None

1 out of 5 eggsHDMI port problems

Pros: Lot of features. Too bad they all don't work.

Cons: HDMI port failure. I would have discovered this problem within the one year warranty but had the receiver at a location that I was only at 2 weekends a month. Was having connection problems from the start with the TV, Netflix and Blu Ray. I'd jiggle the cables and it would come back so I assumed it was the cables. Just over the warranty period and now I get the message "No Input Selected". I figured I now needed to replace the cables but that had no effect. Then I read reviews that described port failures. On mine it's the out port. If it was one of the inputs I could work around it. Unit has less than 100 hours use. What a waste. I have a 10 year old Pioneer Plasma TV that I still think looks better than most of the new ones I see for sale now and has never given me a problem. Same with my 10 year old HDMI-less Yamaha receiver so I figured the extended warranty would just be a waste of money. Guess that doesn't apply to the junk they're selling now. Very disappointed with this high end receiver purchase.

1 out of 5 eggsI liked it for 11 months then HDMI ports failed

Pros: A lot of features for a small price

Cons: HDMI ports failed after just 11 months. D3 amplification on this unit sounded ok when cranked but just didn't have the punch of my old Pioneer Elite.

Other Thoughts: I bought this because it looked like a less expensive version of an Elite receiver. It didn't blow me away but it met my needs. Unfortunately, I can only surmise that the components are not quality. 11 months in and only one HDMI port will pass sound. I have one month left on my warranty. time to get on the phone. geez...

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Reciever

Pros: High Quality, Sounds Great, Very Affordable on Sale
Network & Serial Control is perfect in my Remote Setup; Very Fast Response.
Pandora still Plays out Zone 2 (outside) when you Switch Zone 1 back to the TV.
Auto Calibration works perfectly.

Cons: Wish it had a Volume OSD Overlay, I live without it just fine though.
No Bluetooth Audio Input/Output (default)

Of course after years of holding back I buy in and 4k resolution peeks its head out; good thing its still a long way out from being adopted for my home theatre use.. Have a feeling it'll be the only reason I upgrade this; one day.

Other Thoughts: I didnt have an IR Repeater when I first set it up; Since the remote didn't reach to the basement I did the initial setup all via telnet.. Was slow and painful but it worked.

It took a while but its fully integrated into my home theatre and automation systems, can hide the OEM remote and use a slim Apple TV Remote and Menu Options to do everything that needs to be done..

5 out of 5 eggs6 Month Follow-up Review

Pros: Excellent Power, crisp sound, versatility, equalizer for each of 7 channels independently, much more.

Cons: Buttons on remote are small and hard to read.

Other Thoughts: I thought I should write a follow-up review after having this receiver for over 6 months of daily use. I also felt it necessary to come on board to defend this product after reading so many negative reviews (hard to understand this).

Not only have I found nothing to complain about, but I have found this to be one of the finest receivers on the market. I've been a Home Theater enthusiast for over 30 years and when I decided to do an upgrade for my new HT room, I wanted to "do it right".

After months of research, I finally decided on the SC-1222-K. As it turns out, my research paid off. The perfect blend of power and features for my Home Theater. The Class D amp is a huge feature which easily drives my 7.1 Polk Audio system and complete fill my HT room, which, by the way, is 22' x 40'! Just like a move theater, at ANY volume. It is so clear that you can hear a pin drop, or it can rock the rafters....

On the "Con" side, as you have read, the only con is the small buttons and small text on the remote, especially in a darkened room. Since I use a Harmony remote this is really a non-issue.

Yes, I am not only defending this product, but I am highly recommending it. You will not be disappointed!

1 out of 5 eggsNo more Pioneer products

Pros: t was ok while it worked.

Cons: Just after 10 months and may be half an hour daily use, it died. Emailed pioneer, they responded back after two days and sent me one of the repair store address.
Will update the review after repair experience.

Other Thoughts: I have owned many expensive electronics products over years and this is the only one which failed during first year.

1 out of 5 eggsHDMI BOARD FAILURE

Pros: Runs cool,sounds great

Cons: Failed at the 8 month mark and cannot get a hold ot warranty/service.

Other Thoughts: I bought this 12/12 to replace an ONKYO that failed due to its heating of the HDMI board[WELL KNOWN HDMI BOARD FAILURE] naturally out of warranty. I bought this and made sure that I now have 2 Noctura fans and it failed after 8 months and is only used 2-3 hrs a day maybe 5 days a week. Having no luck contacting Pioneer as regardless of when you call you get a sorry we are at lunch. NOT GOOD AND BUYER BE WARE.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat receiver. Great price.

Pros: Tons of options, Good sound quality, cheap price.

Cons: Complex. That's not really a con, but If you aren't one for reading instructions (downloaded from Pioneer) then pass on this unit. It's not for the plug and play minded individual. Spend some time online reading the various forum posts too.

Other Thoughts: This receiver has performed flawlessly. I have it connected to an LG 60LM7200 3D TV, Denon Blu-Ray, Denon DVD changer, PS3, DirecTV box, and Polk Monitor 70, 40, 30, and CS2 speakers. The unit has plenty of power to drive the monitor 70s. The firmware update for Pandora needs to be downloaded onto a fat 32 formatted jump drive and then installed from that through the USB port. It worked the first time. MCACC does a great job too. This receiver replaced a Kenwood VR-6070 THX 6.1 unit, and it is quite a step up. I have this wired directly to my router, and don't have any issues with connectivity. Internet radio, Pandora and streaming from my laptop through my home network all work flawlessly. The I phone app is pretty cool too.
